Hello there

Been following this group for a few weeks now and decided to jump in. I had bunion surgery, hammertoe, plantar fasciitis and tarsal tunnel release, all on the right foot on Feb 26. Have done really well except for falling twice and putting a lot of pressure on my foot trying to keep from falling. I am approaching week three and actually have more pain now than I did at first. Sutures are out, thank goodness and I am still no-weight bearing. I see the surgeon Friday and will probably go into a post surgical boot. I keep thinking I should be further along but I have to consider I had four procedures on one little foot! I am 63 years old and it is not easy getting around. Hubby rented me a knee walker and that really has been a big help. Happy healing to all!

Morning. Had a good day with Mom yesterday. Brought some sandwiches and french fries ( she loves them ) and we tailgated on the back of my truck. Had some good music blasting out front the nursing home doing some bird watching.Time I got home my foot was aching and very swollen.
Today I must start some sort of diet and find a way to get to the gym and start working pounds off. I'm so out of my routine.
I'm also going to try and wear a sneaker today. Rena's motivation.
Rena - It's nice to not need the scooter, in fact you reminded me I have to return it today since mine is a rental. That thing was a life saver and now I can't wait to lose it. lol
Anita - Start walking this week and I must warn you it will be painful at first. It's just something we have to go thru. Did a week of that and my boot is off. It's all a process we have to go thru.
Patricia - Advil is Advil here in the USA. Was fourtunate enough to make it through with only Advil. Had to endure the extra pain. For me I don't do well with painkillers.
Hope everyone has a good day. Remember we will have some off days and we have to remember this to shall pass. Stay focused on TODAY!!!!

Rena and Patricia are just a few days ahead of me. Never noticed till today. Guess I am getting better then. I tried twice yesterday walking on the heel. It seems shock waves up, dont like that. I will try again today. I am practicing in the bedroom close to the bed as I can fall on the bed if I need to. Its -1c here with more showers in the forecast. I dont care, as once I can get shoes or sandals on it will be sunny. Good time to be indoors. I started eating better (healthy food) on Week 5 and I feel better already. I love my comfort foods and sweets. I have been eating frozen Dark Cherries and I micro them for 1 min to take some of the frost off. They are so good and sweet too. So far it is working. You cant imagine all the cookies I have gone through with this journey.
Patricia, your healing reiki and an Indian head massage sound wonderful. I could get into this right now. Here in Canada we only refer to pain killers as the REAL stuff. WHen it comes to Advil its just Advil, nothing much. I still take x2 Oxycondone (Narcotic) to help me sleep. Tried to cut back but I just cant sleep without it. I will have to ween myself off it soon.
Bob, take back the scooter. Its time for it to go. Your doing so good. Glad you had a wonderful day with your Mom and I am sure she really enjoyed it too. Take care of your foot, cause you need them both. Focus on healthy eating and not the amount of it.
To the rest of you, RENA, JENNY,JOAN, MEL, BE, BEAU, CARMAN, EILEEN
where are you. Missing you all and hoping that things are going well for each and everyone of you.
Always beleive in yourself cause your worth it. One day at a time, on step at a time.

I will have to check out some of the YouTube exercise suggestions I’ve seen along the way. Believe it or not, the only exercises given to me to do are the “bending of the great toe.” My chiropractor also provided a couple great suggestions: try to balance on my now bunionless foot for about 30 seconds at a time, while brushing teeth, etc., which will help fire up some of the muscles that have gone dormant. My balance is way off at this point! Also, if you have access to a swimming pool, practice walking properly while in the water as it will be an effective way to focus on proper mechanics. As of yet, I haven’t made it into a swimming pool, but our neighborhood pool will open this weekend so I plan to give this a try once the water has a chance to warm up a little.
I’m having the 4 screws removed this Wednesday, so until that is done, I’m sort of on hold. I am looking forward to getting more active once that healing is behind me. Should be only 10-12 days and mainly just healing of the re-opened incisions. No biggie!
Keep up the great work everyone – reading your posts is uplifting!

Returned the scooter, couldn't wait to get rid of it after feeling like Xmas morning when I first rented it. So GRATEFUL for whoever invented it.
Tomorrow starts my therapy. Can't wait to conquer this and move on to next surgery although I'm month's out from that I believe. Maybe not!!
Going to work on my diet today. Wasn't too bad yesterday. I was cleared for the gym so hopping today is the start of another comeback.

my shoes were A new pair of trainers I picked up on Saturday along with a pair of summer sandals. I've had to go a size bigger! I'm also using scholl regular orthaheel orthotics in the trainers which really help with the heel toe walking. Hardly any pain now, apart from the swelling when I do too much.
Starting to get my muscle tone back and am loosing weight......yay! Stopped all unhealthy snacks about a week ago.
sounds like everyone is coming along nicely. Keep up the good work.
Physio again tomorrow.
its a lovely sunny, blustery day here..... Going to spend some time tidying up the garden.
have a lovely day everyone.

Finally seeing the sun and blue sky here. Its been a while. It always makes me feel better. I am working on my physio excercies but still having a hard time with moving the big toe. It just is weird, but I know I have to. Been working on the heel walk in my boot, its slow going and i did it 6 times yesterday so I have to aim for more today. I sure hope I get it soon. Am I the only one that is taking this long?? I feel so stupid and sometime feel like I will never walk again.
Carman, so excited for you. In shoes and all the walking around. Thats great. Way to go on eating better and losing weight too. Its a hard battle. Looking forward to my MIL muslce coming back. Keep up the walking, your doing great
Bob, so sorry to hear about your pineapple express foot. Hope you enjoy your physio and return to life today. Way to go on eating healthy too. Just think about now and your foot. Forget about the next one, just focus. Your doing awesome.
To the rest of you, enjoy today and its one step forward for all of us today.

I can't go back to work until next week after all as Occ. Health can't assess me before Friday 9th ( have to be assessed as I'm going back before my cerificate runs out)
I've tried driving twice just locally but it's too painful unless I press the clutch just with the outside of my foot, so I'm not doing any unlesss I really have to.
Still ok in trainers, Doc Martin boots for fitting, though I haven't stopped limping yet, so I need to practice walking more.
It's been good to get some gardening done and more jobs around the house so I feel I'm making good use of the time at home.
Looking forward to getting back to playing badminton, long walks and Morris Dancing, hopefully in July when I'll be going to a couple of Folk Festivals too.
I keep wondering if I've given myself more problems by having the surgery, but now it's done of course, I'll just have to keep on with the excercises!
Hope everone else is having a good recovery. Onwards and upwards!

Kim....sounds as though you are doing really well! From what I've read we can't expect to get back to sports etc. for about 4 - 6 month so patience is the operative word.
Anita....keep on working that walking girl! Each day will be easier than the day before so keep looking forward!
Carmen.....such an encouraging post! So happy for you 😃 Gives us all something to look forward to !
Bob....the return of that scooter is a triumph. You've opened the door to the next exciting stage...especially with therapy coming. I bet from here on in the improvement will be in leaps and bounds as Carmen say.
Jenny....good to see your post and hear all going well...nothing like time with the grandkids!
Have a super day all !
