Hello there

Posted , 29 users are following.

Been following this group for a few weeks now and decided to jump in. I had bunion surgery, hammertoe, plantar fasciitis and tarsal tunnel release, all on the right foot on Feb 26. Have done really well except for falling twice and putting a lot of pressure on my foot trying to keep from falling. I am approaching week three and actually have more pain now than I did at first. Sutures are out, thank goodness and I am still no-weight bearing. I see the surgeon Friday and will probably go into a post surgical boot. I keep thinking I should be further along but I have to consider I had four procedures on one little foot! I am 63 years old and it is not easy getting around. Hubby rented me a knee walker and that really has been a big help. Happy healing to all!

    Morning!!!

Jenny, hang in there this will all be worth it. Its a long recovery from what I hear depending on what they do. What do you do to pass the time? Some of us have a longer recovery time. Doctors tend to over see things, think positive thoughts.

Jan, nice to see you back.

Bob, pain oh man so not looking forward to that. What are you doing to pass the time and not think about the pain. How is the food out your way with your Saint. Is she taking time off work to stay with you?

EIleen, I have decided to quit obsessing and just take the next few days and run around. Do you think I need a toilet rise? OK obsessing again, sheeesh its just in my blood I guess lol.

Jilly, if you want someone else to write to I am here!! Maybe that is what I should do and shock people that letters in the mail still exists. What else do you do to pass the time? I have a few facebook games I will be getting into. Wow your walking already thats awesome.

So me now, well its Saturday and I am going to enjoy all the days before Friday when I go under the knife and then get 6 weeks non weight bearing. I washed all the floors in the house yesterday and cleaned out the freezer. Making Turkey meatballs today and 2 pans of Lasanga for the freezer today. Making a list of healthy snacks I want around.

    Hi

I've managed to make time pass by sleeping late, reading the daily newspaper, massaging my nice new feet (that only applies to those without a cast), listening to Radio 4, sewing, knitting, etc plus lots of books to read. I have up my sleeve for days when I can't be bothered- researching our family tree further ( a great way to spend hours and hours), online Sudoku ( again takes hours and is very addictive), letters to write ( I agree Jilly- people love a letter the old fashioned way), just plain browsing the internet, researching holidays, sorting out our digital photo collection and maybe getting some printed........etc, etc. I don't think eight weeks off work is going to be long enough for me!

Anita- I think it depends on how your bathroom is set out. I was able to manage by holding on to the sink and pulling but then I could reach that far. Your upper body and thigh strength will amaze you when you need it. What I do wish is that I bought some loose sox for the first while when I had a cast on then new sox for pampering my new feet in after the cast came off! Oh and new nail varnish so that toenails the looked good. You spend a lot of time looking at your feet while you're recovering!!

Jilly- well done on the trip to the post box- remind me are you still in plaster? I 'm at three and half weeks post op with no plaster and heel walker shoes. I need to start walking a bit more outside so that the six week release from the heel walkers is not too much of a shock.

Jenny- hope that you get your heel sorted and sorry to hear you're in pain.

Jan- hope that you're back on the internet soon. I've found this forum a wonderful way to pass time with my bunion buddies!

Off to massage the feet again.

Anita, Lot's of tv although i'm not a tv person. I'm not much of a reader and I am not doing much else but lying here with my foot elevated with ice all day. My GF Annette has been absoulutley awesome. She just left for her night work so I'll have to make it around slowly. Friends have stopped by to drop off food, books (ha). My days are normally full when I am healthy. Pain is down to a 5. Happy healing Eileen.

Have you tried Sudoku? Seriously addictive and you can try it online? Or some other online facebook game? Worth a shot as it stops you clock watching...............!! Glad to hear the pain is at a five- that's better than yesterday and I'll bet tomorrow it'll be a four.

Thanks eileen. I had a hunch this was going to be hard for me. My whole life has consisted of physical activity. Coaching high school baseball , gym and work has consumed my life. I always frowned at kids spending time playing video games, etc. I guess there is a time and place for everything. Imagine i'll be signing up for crutch racing soon. Thanks for the support.

I have an idea Bob-ask your friends, children, nieces/nephews and neighbours what video games they play and get them to set you a challenge. I'll bet you'll be too busy beating those challenges to feel bored. Or even consider borrowing a wii and challenging yourself to beat a target..........?

Bob, its time to try out the games that everyone is taking about. You will be in the know!! I play Candy Crush on facebook and I love it. You cant play all day as you only get 5 lives and when they are gone you have to wait an hour or so. I have a few others I play and looking forward to having the time to beat my friends who spend way more time on it then I do. Some games can be actually mind stimulating and not just shooting etc. Sudhuko is really good too. Takes a little to get into but it is addicting and I plan on buying me a few books to have on hand. I would suggest cross stitch but dont thing thats you.

Eileen, Sudhuok online.......really. I may have to search it out.

Hubby is actually starting to get it I think. He is worried how I am going to get up the stairs to our house and then the stairs in the house. I told him it will take time but not to worry. If it takes an hour it does. I can always rest midway. I told him I will be a princess and he can be my prince, Oh Garçon another water please!!!! ha ha

Bob, I agree. Get interested in a game or two. I play Words of Wonder and it can keep me busy for a long time. I also have watched three seasons of Grimm. I do a lot of reading, surfing the net. I have started knitting squares out of scrap yarn which I will then put together into a blanket. Watch movies on Netflix. There are some days that nothing entertains me as well. I get bored with everything. Today, hubby and I put the knee walker in the car and went shopping for a few hours. When I got home my foot looked like a balloon with five stuffed sausages on it. Been icing and elevating all evening and I can wiggle my toes again...lol. Hang in there.

Hi. I'm back on the internet. I didn't realise how much I have used my ipad since my op.

Like Eileen I can surf for new shoes, read my kindle, get the news, and search for holidays. I have watched a few soppy films, but I am not really one to sit and watch TV , especially during the day. But needs must sometimes.

Although this has been a long haul, I am about the same post op as Eileen, the time has gone quite quickly. I tend to wake very early, read then drop off to sleep again. Oil slicking my foot takes a while and I prop it up on a towel on a pillow to dry out.

Jill has got me thinking about letter writing. I think I will give it a go. I have been told 8-10 weeks recovery, maybe longer as job entails on feet all day. Think hubby will be glad to get me back in the cafe kitchen. It has done him good to see how hard it is and has told me he will take his turn in kitchen when I return - result!!!

Bob - how is the pain now? I tend to receive a lot of messages in the early hours, due to the majority of you overseas. Atlantic City is lovely. I went around 14 years ago. My friend lives in NJ. Will visit again when we retire (hopefully this year). I live in Buxton, Peak District UK. Have a look at the pics of the hills. We live on the outskirts of town and back onto a sheep field very hilly. We watched ewes giving birth in the field last year, bit gory! Lambing is not far away now. They are quite funny to watch when playing.

Anita - apart from getting organised, bed, pillows, big socks, oils, phones, food, etc, you really need to chill and not worry too much. We are all testament to how quickly things improve daily. You will cope.

Jenny - how is your pain today? I had 4 incisions, but not on the sole of my foot. Mine was just bruised underneath and that was bad enough, I can't imagine had wounds on the bottom. Hope you are feeling better.

My brother in law has just moved from Calgary to the Okanagen Valley. I have been to see him once, but again hope to get there when we retire.

Sorry all, getting carried away with my keyboard. It is freezing here today, so I think I will stay in.

Bob, word to the wise...if you're going to have your stitches out tomorrow, take a pain pill before you go or at least have a stiff drink. My stitches were stuck to the dressing, so removal was not fun. I have my 6 week appointment tomorrow and am hoping I get to transition out of these lovely boots. I don't need to use the walker or wheelchair anymore, so I know I'm making progress, but I want more! What a marvelous day it will be when I can drive again! I don't have pain in my feet anymore other than the occasional burning sensation which I believe to be the nerves regenerating. I will ask about that tomorrow. My toes are very stiff so I'm a little apprehensive to go into regular shoes but I know I have to push myself in order to make progress. Like you, my back is really bothering me and has been for several weeks. I went from running 4-5 times a week and playing golf to nothing and I think my body is revolting against the inactivity. My husband has been getting me out of the house to do some easy walking and it has helped. Also, alternating between a heating pad and ice pack helps. Good luck tomorrow.

Bob - bored - I think all the time will be taken up reading this!! Went out for lunch today with the local Lions Club. I run a holiday bungalow for them, so it was nice to have a bit of different company. I am really surprised how quickly day 17 has arrived. Still no bruising or swelling though do elevate a lot. I wonder if I will swell up after the plaster comes off but that isn't until week 6!! We shall see cry

It's strange how the treatment differs. My fixed plaster off after 2 weeks. Hope you don't swell. Fingers crossed.

My you do keep busy. How do you find the time and more to the point the energy. You are putting me to shame Jill!!☺️

Good day everyone! I just came upon this forum and am so glad I did! I want to introduce myself - my name in Shannon. I live in British Columbia, Canada. I had my left foot bunionectomy September 30 last year and on March 17 of this year, had my right foot done. So I am day 7. It is amazing how you forget the "immobility" issues! I had a very rough night last night but I blame myself because I tried to do lots yesterday. I use crutches and a wheeled steno chair around the house. After a fitfull sleep I managed to get some coffee and settle on the sofa and searched "throbbing pain after bunion surgery" and lo and behold this forum came up! I am feeling so much better to have some place to "go" where people understand what I am going through! I am a typical middle aged wife/mother who takes care of everyone else. Now my foot tells me to settle down and just sit! I have my foot covered in gauze bandages and wear a boot around the house. I go for a second dressing change on Tuesday. Anyway, I look forward to healing along with all of you!

Welcome Shannon. Yes immobility seem not to be the problem we thought it would - you just get on with it!! Yep we do all seem to be of a certain age and all over. I know of Canada, Bob in Atlantic City, Sheffield uk, Calgary, Canada, Derbyshire uk, = Lots of places and I am in Devon Uk.

    Have a good sunday

    Jill
