Hello there

Been following this group for a few weeks now and decided to jump in. I had bunion surgery, hammertoe, plantar fasciitis and tarsal tunnel release, all on the right foot on Feb 26. Have done really well except for falling twice and putting a lot of pressure on my foot trying to keep from falling. I am approaching week three and actually have more pain now than I did at first. Sutures are out, thank goodness and I am still no-weight bearing. I see the surgeon Friday and will probably go into a post surgical boot. I keep thinking I should be further along but I have to consider I had four procedures on one little foot! I am 63 years old and it is not easy getting around. Hubby rented me a knee walker and that really has been a big help. Happy healing to all!

It's been a very sunny day here in Perthshire- but very cold as I found out when I walked to the end of the road and back. That was my first 'long' walk......must start building up the distance. I am on heel walker shoes with no plaster so my journey was slow!
I had a sore back for the first few days but found that changing where I sat every few hours made a difference and now I'm fine.
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

Bob, I agree, take a pain pill before you go for suture removal. I had 35 sutures to come out on my foot and it was no fun!
Welcome Shannon! This group has been a life saver for me during this.
Have a good evening everyone!

Welcome Shannon. I am in Derbyshire Peak District UK. You know what to expect having already had one done, but it is nice to have this contact with others. I have found it useful and yes good laughs sometimes.
Bob, I was lucky I had dissolving sutures but they snipped the ends which stung a bit. Don't worry, sure it won't be as bad as you think.
Anita, is your hubby going to be with you for first 48 hrs, after your op?
Sunny. But very frosty and cold here today. Might venture out later, if it warms up later.
Have a good day all.
Jan 😃

I was terrified prior to my op but as Jill says, you will be fine and wonder why you worried so much. The pain levels change daily and those first few days will soon be a distant memory.
Keep yourself busy until Friday and take some deep breaths. Have lots of magazines to hand too in case you don't feel up to reading a novel.
My pin comes out tomorrow. It can't stay in forever and I wouldn't want it to. I'll probably be skipping by the end of the week.
Jan 😉

Anita. It will be ok. We have alot of cool people and good support here. Saving our energy for surgery opposed to using it up worrying about something that hasen't happened yet may be a better option. We all have been there so we understand,
Saint Annette is still rock solid taking care of bored Bob!
My goal this week is to get to the nursing home to see my mother. Was there just about every night at dinner to feed her due to a couple strokes she had. Life get's lifey. It's how we react to it without harming ourselves or others. Have a great day and remember, there are always other people that have it worse then us.

Jan and Jenny, thanks for that. I know I will be fine and I will enjoy my foot looking normal. Its been so many years now I cant even imagine it looking different although it has gotten worse the last few years. My other toes have shifted towards the right. Not sure if they will shift back but will see and hope. Hang in there Jenny.
Bob, WOW a TV, you sure have nice friends. I need one too so you can send them this way lol. I am really thinking of getting Netflix cause real TV is boring. I know how you feel with regards to Mom's. I am a caregiver for my Mom. At the moment she is in the hospital receiving ECT treatments, for anyone not knowing what that is, its electric shock. She has depression really bad sometimes. She was getting depressed about a few things and one major thing is me getting this surgery. SHe doesnt know who will do the laundry, the cooking and the cleaning, etc. I told them about my surgery and at the end of the week they are sending her to the part of the hospital called Rest and Rehab for 2 weeks? I am hoping. I told them that I just cant take care of her for at least 2. She was home this weekend and we started packing and she is worried about going and not seeing me for 2 weeks. I am sure we will have this all sorted through by the time she gets back. I just hope that they find the right medications so she can enjoy a few more years of life. She is 81 years young and has had a hard life. I guess we all have our problems big or small. Mine is small compared to hers.

You are up and about within day 2 so there is no chance for muscle atrophy. You do need to continue to elevate and ice for swelling. I was given a driving boot after five days and had strips of medical tape placed over the incision so I could resume taking normal showers - no foot covering required.
Granted, this procedure is not for everyone. I had a double osteotomy and tendon/ligament cut which is probably the basic procedure (no pins for straightening the toes), no hammer toes, etc.
I feel blessed to have found my Orthopedic Surgeon as I did not have the luxury of staying home for 6-8 weeks as a majority of posters here.
As this procedure is relatively new it shouldn't be long before it becomes the gold standard.
Wishing all here a speedy recovery!

Glad that you're all feeling quite chirpy today- this sunshine is really helping. Although it does really make me want to get going in the garden..................soon I hope.
I feel so like you Jilly- this whole procedure hasn't been nearly as bad as I feared. The danger is that I'm going to overdo things if I'm not really careful. I agree that this is the best rest I've had in years!!
Anita- I know how you are feeling. I was terrified before my op but came through it fine and when I look at my feet I am so glad that I had it done. Even if it takes ages to get fully fit again it will have been worth it- every day I can do a bit more and both feet hurt a lot less. Hope that your Mum settles OK.
Counting my blessings here- thanks for reminding me to do that Bob.
