Hello there

Been following this group for a few weeks now and decided to jump in. I had bunion surgery, hammertoe, plantar fasciitis and tarsal tunnel release, all on the right foot on Feb 26. Have done really well except for falling twice and putting a lot of pressure on my foot trying to keep from falling. I am approaching week three and actually have more pain now than I did at first. Sutures are out, thank goodness and I am still no-weight bearing. I see the surgeon Friday and will probably go into a post surgical boot. I keep thinking I should be further along but I have to consider I had four procedures on one little foot! I am 63 years old and it is not easy getting around. Hubby rented me a knee walker and that really has been a big help. Happy healing to all!

Anita - I wish I lived closer to YOU! All that food sounds so wonderful!!!

Do you all remember how long the stabbing, throbbing pain lasted, after surgery, when you are not elevating the foot? Whenever I put my foot near the floor it has that awful feeling like it is asleep, only way worse. Not unbearable, but it does make one a bit cranky! I have to lift my leg up while standing at the kitchen sink, bathroom sink, etc. otherwise it makes that throbby pain.

I had the left foot done last year but don't remember how long this lasted.

Shannon, what does you Doctor say about the pain, sounds to me like it is lasting long?

Anglea, I did look up Ludloff Plate procedure and it looks good. I will ask my surgeon. Looks like the healing is quick too.

Eileen, hopefully you can get out to your gardening. How much longer, remind me.

I didnt make it to go out grocery shopping but I did take a LONG hot shower and enjoyed every moment of it. Just had lunch and now back to the laundry and then cooking. I want to get it done today.

Have a great day everyone and smile, your worth it!!

ANITA, I was the same too, worried about it for so long, had to go for it as making excuses up not to. Day 12 for me, the first day was awful, getting home from hospital and getting into my own bed was so stressful, but every day since v has be en a little better/ first five days are the worst. Sounds like v you are preparing well l. I got a kettle by my bedside and coffee or hot chocolate were never far away and I could manage that without shouting for help. Also had a drawer full of snacks so only really needed to get up for bathroom. Hope all goes well for you

Doctor's visit went well. Changed the bandage and gave me the big ski boot. Rented a knee wheeler and I highly recommend it. Was like a little kid with a new bike. I must necessity!!! Was surprised my incision was 6 inches long due to severity of bunion. Not much pain today. Doctor was amazed I hadn't taken painkillers. Next visit April 4th getting stitches out.

Anita - I'm in the same situation with my mom and our mom's are strong. . Actually it will make them stronger knowing we are taking care of ourselves. Mom also suffers from depression, 2 strokes. Let's replace our fears with faith!!! Keep working it my friends. Only works if we work it!!!! Remember say NO to unhealthy foods. Treat yourself once in awhile!!!

Joan, great idea about the kettle. I love tea. Hubby wants to set up a cooler for when he is at work so I dont have get my food but I dont think going to the fridge is going to be a problem. I have to go by on the way to the bathroom. I am going to eat healthy while I am laid up. I am going to buy lots of fresh yummy fruit and frozen too.

Bob, thats what I got a knee scooter and I am already trying it out. I think its great escpecially to go to the bathroom and back. I am not really good on the crutches.

I was scheduled for 11.30 on Friday and they called and it will be 1.30 now grrrrrrrr. No eating after midnight and only a small sip of water. I am not going to make it. I will call in the morning to confirm if I can perhaps eat something at 6am. I am a big water drinker and dont think I could make it that long.

Have a great evening or morning depending on part of the world you are on. Tomorrow is another day and WE CAN DO IT!!

Anita, another thing you need is a shower chair or stool. I bought just a cheap stool on Amazon. I also bought a suction holder for the hand held shower hose. I put it low in the shower so that when I sit on the stool the shower is right on me. It's wonderful!

Oh! and Bob, be careful on that knee walker. I got my wheels tangled up going out the door and went right over the top of it landing on my sore foot. It was horrible! Also, it has made my knee so sore. I have arthritis in that knee so I suspect most people don't have trouble with it. But, it is a wonderful device!! Fun too!

Day 12 - back from my visit to the consultant, stitches taken out last week, only butterfly stitches, nurse took them off, consultant came to see wound, looked good, big toe looking nice and straight, second toe lies to left but doc hopping it will come right by itself in time, my bunion was very big and I had it a long time, back in 5 weeks. Just a light dressing on. Told still to keep it elevated, but that's all, I never asked s ny questions as uhh felt a bit faint, don't know why.

So I seem to be doing very well in on my 12 days. Anyone else getting on good.

Morning everyone!! I am enjoying my last few days with my ankles crossing sitting her on my reclining chair and having a coffee. Trying to visualize my life change in a few days. I will get through it with all of you by my side. It sure helps to know others are going through the same thing and you can actually chat with them. How wonderful is that. It also helps to know how well everyone is doing everyday. One day at a time and one step at a time.

Today its groceries, picking my Mom up and going for our haircuts, its going to be a while for that. Then home to make dinner and off to photography class.Hubby and I are going together. This is the last one. Dont know how that worked out but glad it did just in time too. No pre-cooking today.

I have been practising a little on my crutches but it sure is hard to get the hang of. I think of Bob scooting around the house just like I will be soon. It is fun!! Does yours have a little basket in the front?

Hope everyone is doing well today.

Hi everyone. What a day it's been. Had my pin removed from my hammertoe early this morning. He did it so quick I didn't feel a thing - result. Still can't get my foot wet now until the hole has healed 3 days time he reckons. So no soak in the tub yet.

Sadly, one of our staff's mother passed away last night so naturally she could not work. Another is on holiday and they were covering for me. Cut long story short, it meant that I had to go into the cafe and help my hubby. We had role reversal, so I did front of house. Been on my feet 5 hrs and now foot swollen and very painful and hammertoe hole looks angry with me.

Don't think I can do it all again tomorrow.

Jill, well done today. It is nice to get some fresh air isn't it? And how did you manage to lose weight. I won't go on the scales until I'm back to work full time, although I may have lost a stone today. What do you think???

I was given an exercise sheet by the consultant today but not had a chance to look at it yet. Icing as we speak.

Not long now Anita. You must be so prepared. I wish I had found this forum earlier so I could have been a little more prepared. So far, I'm so impressed with my treatment. All good and glint to plan. Foot looking a. It messy still, but toes are lovely and straight.

Jan, so glad removing that pin didn't hurt! Sounds barbaric. I have a permanent scre but didn't have any pins..whew.

Jilly, that is impressive indeed. I can't imagine it right now. Way to go!

Anita, not long now! Before you know it it will be over and you will be on the way to recovery.

I took a few tentative steps with the walker today as I am still non-weight bearing. He said I could put the foot down on the floor for balance. I start Physical Therapy tomorrow. Trying to decide if. I can drive with only the left foot. I'm going to give it a go tomorrow. We only live 5 miles from the hospital. Problem is getting my knee walker in and out of the car. Maybe I should just take the crutches.

    Bob...where are you today?

Hi. Jilly, love your positive post. Day 13 for me, only use my crutches as a bit extra support , I am amazed that I have been able to move about so well, but also remember not to do too much. I was getting pushed around Asda tonight in a wheelchair, at least it was out the house. Was thinking of trying the motorised scooter, but will wait to a quiet time in case I knock anyone down.
