Hello there

Posted , 29 users are following.

Been following this group for a few weeks now and decided to jump in. I had bunion surgery, hammertoe, plantar fasciitis and tarsal tunnel release, all on the right foot on Feb 26. Have done really well except for falling twice and putting a lot of pressure on my foot trying to keep from falling. I am approaching week three and actually have more pain now than I did at first. Sutures are out, thank goodness and I am still no-weight bearing. I see the surgeon Friday and will probably go into a post surgical boot. I keep thinking I should be further along but I have to consider I had four procedures on one little foot! I am 63 years old and it is not easy getting around. Hubby rented me a knee walker and that really has been a big help. Happy healing to all!

Hey Bob, is it New Jersey you live,  IF yes I was talking to a friend's brother last night who used to live/work there, I know it will be a big big place but what a co-incidence.  I think he is invovled in a lot of charity work.  Im saying to him that I have a friend on a forum that stays in New Jersey.   I have no idea where abouts he lived or what he did, maybe I can find out later.

Hope your mom is feeling better.  All you can do is be there for her.

Hi everyone, just back from my first gym class, thighs bums and tums, boy am I going to be sore tomorrow, hoping exercises will get this toe moving better, still can't flex it properly.  Feeling good, love to hear about everyone  else's days on here, so awesome Bob living by the beach, though beach is only 1 hour drive for me it's alway too cold to go except maybe sometime July and August.  Kim, that sounds like a nightmare that person had.

It's so good to be up and about again and feeling 'normal' and not thinking FOOT every minute of the day, though always aware of it,

Rena jenny Patricia Kim Anita have a great weekend and you are all nearly where I am today - it's great.

      WEEK 8 DAY 1

Morning all!!  ITs going to be another nice day today. Hubby and I are going to a park so I can get out into the sunshine. I need to find my summer clothes as they are all still packed away. He is planning on doing some steaks tonight for dinner, yum. Seems when I walk a little much the foot needs a rest the next day. Man is this is a slow progress, oh well you all  went through it so I can too. Plannig on visiting my Mom tomorrow and heading for the grocery store.  I need to start eating better and not feeling sorry for myself anymore.

Have a great day and do something nice for 'you' today cause 'your worth it'

    WEEK 9 DAY 4

Morning to whoever is still around. I'm sure everyone is healing and getting on with life and back into normal routines. You have all been so really nice and helpful.

Yesterday was a nice day and it turned out completely different then I had planned.. The weather wasn't so nice so I never made it to the beach meditation hour or out on the boat. My sister did bring my mom over and cooked some salmon with Annette's salad, steamed clam's, clam's on the half shell, scallop's and it was a very enjoyable afternoon. Did of course get my gym time in early in the morning.

Foot is still a bit sore. Nothing like it has been. Actually starting to not think about it much although I'm very careful how I'm walking. The thought of another surgery on Wednesday does have me a bit on edge so I will enjoy the next few days as much as I can.

JOAN - I live in Atlantic City New Jersey and Jersey is quite a large state. Never know tho. Keep working at the gym. It will be rough getting thru that early pain and it's actually a different pain we go thru after time off from working out. Stay with it my friend. We need excersise to keep our mind fit too!!!!!

NITAGIRL - Glad things are on the up for you and your mum. It's been an up hill journey and I'm glad we had the chance to do it together. You have helped me more than you can imagine.

To the rest of the ''BUINION BABES '', hope all is well and today and let's find the blessin's in today's lesson's.

Hi all!  WEEK 8 DAY 4

Oh man...what a totally gorgeous weekend...not a cloud in the sky and highs of 25 deg.  Can't be more perfect. I just have to tell you how excited I am about my new Altra Torin trainers.  They are perfect in 4 ways.  1.  The wide natural foot toe box. 2. The wonderful cushiness which is good for my sensitive sacroiliac joints in my back and 3. After removal of their insole have room for me to put in the orthotic I wear to prevent overpronation. 4. The zero drop puts less pressure on the forefoot and appears to cause less fatigue. In addition to my normal walking yesterday I did my first "real" walk around a running track in the park a couple of blocks from me.  It was a slow walk with emphasis on heel to toe and I did 1 km (.6 mile)without any foot repercussions.  My foot was even LESS swollen when I checked than when I am just on my feet around the house or doing errands.  So no question the real walking and the blood circulation up and down is good for the foot!......that's my theory anyway..LOL.  Today I am going to do 1.6 km (i.e. a mile). Actually, after not walking for all these weeks it's actually my hips that I felt more of a strain in than in the foot!  I continue to manipulate the hammertoe and now am up to a couple hundred times each time if sitting and watching tv, before bed and in the morning.  Time will tell how much this helps...but it IS easier now.

Bob.......my mouth is watering reading about yesterday's menu. I love seafood .....especially fresh seafood that hasn't had to travel on a plane in ice !!! I am so relieved and happy that your foot is now less sore and you are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel with it.  I'm thinking that this upcoming surgery is going to be easier on you psychologically as you know what to expect and hopefully there will be no infection this time to set you back. I also am secretly glad you will need to slow down with your current foot which is good for it's ongoing healing.

Joan.....how are those muscles doing?  You're talking about it is motivating me to get in there myself but the weather is so gorgeous and will remain so for the whole coming week that I hate to spend time indoors.....but maybe I'll go in the evening.

Anita.....so thrilled you are getting out now and your weather is great too.  I have so much admiration for you going through the procedure you did...just remember, once it's over and done with it will become just a blip on the radar screen of time.  smile

Am attaching a pic of my new love....my shoes !  Keep happy !!! smile

    WEEK 8 DAY 3

Morning!!!  Currently 7C and will reach 19C, what a great day it will be. Went shopping again yesterday and was able to hang the foot down longer.  I dont feel so bad today. Walking with the crutches is getting too easy but not ready to toss them yet when shopping.  I do get tired and then have a hard time balancing. I use the electric scooters when in the stores.  Went to visit Mom yesterday and took her fresh blueberries and strawberries, and she LOVED them.

Ren, WAY TO GO, so encouraging for you and for us.  I bet it feels great just getting out and getting back to the real life.  Did you buy the trainers on line or at the store.  I am afraid to buy on line right now as I dont know what  to buy just yet.

Bob, hang in there bro.  Your doing great.  Sometimes people have down days so just allow that from your Mom.  Today is a new day and hoping things will be better for her. ENjoy the beach today. We will be here for you on Wednesday.

Patricia, how did your festival go.  You were going to be on your feet a lot.  Did you manage well.

Joan, how are things with you going.  How goes the gym efforts. Are you ready to go back to work?

Spice girl MEl, where are you girl!!

To anyone else I missed, hope your having a wonderful day moving on in life.

Lets just do this one day at a time..........look how far we have all come!!  Baby steps and we will get there all the way.

Hi, Anita I must say I am ready to get back to work, although love being off too, now that I am mobile and can walk, drive and shop, and generally just get out and about for lunches with friends, but need the pennies to come in, so needs must.  Mobile scooter is the way to go at the shops, use them as long as you need, I had one out on Saturday too around the shopping mall.  My legs have been very tired today due to me doing long walks, shopping trips and gym classes, great being able to do all these things.

I still worry a bit about the V toe, and using my toe spacers all the time, but when I take them out my toe just goes back to V shape.  I have to see consultant on 9th June so can ask him, worried in case I will need another op to fix it.

Bob, wonderful that you can get to the beach, sounds fab. Thinking of you and your next surgery.

Quiet days now on this forum, which is good that everyone is on the road to recovery and busy doing all the normal things in life.

    Have a great day.

Yes, some of us have moved on in the healing process but some of us still need you too. Please reconsider your  resignation, sniff sniff.

Bob!! Don't think that just because you're getting another bunionectomy you can drop us single-bunion babes!! Seriously though, I will be thinking of you tomorrow and please keep us posted as to how it goes, and then how it keeps going! You have been an inspiration to us all. Hope you're going to go out and enjoy yourself tonight and not stress about tomorrow
