Hello there

Posted , 29 users are following.

Been following this group for a few weeks now and decided to jump in. I had bunion surgery, hammertoe, plantar fasciitis and tarsal tunnel release, all on the right foot on Feb 26. Have done really well except for falling twice and putting a lot of pressure on my foot trying to keep from falling. I am approaching week three and actually have more pain now than I did at first. Sutures are out, thank goodness and I am still no-weight bearing. I see the surgeon Friday and will probably go into a post surgical boot. I keep thinking I should be further along but I have to consider I had four procedures on one little foot! I am 63 years old and it is not easy getting around. Hubby rented me a knee walker and that really has been a big help. Happy healing to all!

    Week 8 Day 4

Made dinner last night and was on my foot too long.  Had to use a kitchen chair and sit and stir over the stove last night.  Went to visit my Mom and it was too much for my foot.  She did enjoy the company and playing cards.  The Doctor is going to check on her today and see what they will do next.  She has had 8 ECT's now.  I think she needs a few more as she is still stressing over nothing. Will see what he says today.

I have a g/f coming over today and I told her I want to go out for lunch.  I just need to get out for a change and not just grocery shopping.  Looking forward to that.

Hang in there everyone, this road is getting closer to the end. We are still all here for each other and so glad to have you all in my life to help this along.

Week 9!! Wow how time flies even when you're not having fun!

The expo was a great success but I was totally exhausted by yesterday - it wasn't just the setting up, manning and taking down again, but also all the walking around looking at the rest of the stands and entertainment, and I took my Mum and Dad on Saturday who are both in their 80's and we lost my Dad for about an hour so it was more walking up and down trying to find him! Anyway we then rewarded ourselves with a 10 minute helicopter flight up the coast which was just fab - so nice to see the lay of the land and our house from the air, and just so exciting going up ina  helicopter ( 1st time for my Dad at 84! ). Then yesterday I had my 1st proper PT session which as I posted on facebook, wasn't too bad while I was doing it, but my foot swelled up and was very painful for the rest of the day. I was actually dreading getting out of bed this morning it had been so sore, but of course had to to get my daughter off to school, and it was fine. I did my manipulations and exercises this morning with great trepidation, but have been resting since and have just had a couple of twinges ( especially when my kitten decides to attack my feet! ), so hopefully it's just the stiff joints and scar tissue hurting now that it's all moving again.

I have to confess that my no carbs diet didn't last long - got bored with veg soup and then was just too busy and or too sore to stand and make healthy food - all the convenience frozen food my kind husband bought me before he left has been lasagne, rotis etc so full of carbs.

Rena have you cracked your mile of walking yet? Love your new trainers

Joan when do you actually start work again, must be soon now? Well done for getting back into gym

Anita hope your Mum gets to come home soon, that would be a load off for you. Hope your walking is going well

Everyone else, hope things are progressing

Bob hope the op went well today. I was thinking of you. Thanks for being so upbeat and encouraging to us all. Your progress has been of special interest to me as we both had our operations on March 19th. I'm still attempting the towel lift, but my second toe still keeps doing the job instead of my big toe at the moment!  Kim x

Good morning everyone.  Been a busy couple of days!  Hubby had 3 days off for the Memorial Day holiday and we did so much work in the yard!  I'm paying the price though.  No, not my foot, my knee.  Will it ever end?  I have a connective tissue disease so if I overuse any of my joints...look out.  But, on the positive side, the yard looks fabulous!  Going to try to get some sewing done today.  I am making the ring bearer pillow for my grandson's wedding out of my wedding dress. It has been sitting in the hope chest for 44 years so now I will put it to good use. My daughter was horrified that I am going to cut it up but really, no one is going to wear it again so I decided that I will make ring bearer pillows for all of the grandchildren with it.

Looks like everyone is doing well and on the road to recovery and life as normal. Wow, what a ride this has been and I can't imagine doing it without all of you!

Thinking of Bob this morning. He is one brave soul to undergo this again so soon!  Prayers Bob!!

      WEEK 8 DAY 5

      Morning Everyone!!

Yesterday was such a wonderful sunny day here. We had 22C and I decided to put plants in my planter at the front door.  Here I was sitting in a chair planting, I wonder what the neighbours thought, ha ha.  It looks really nice. I love flowers.

Went to the hospital and played cards with Mom again last night. Was a short visit as hubby had to go in to do somthing for work in the evening. She is having her last ECT, so will see what happens.  I am guessing they will keep her for 1-2 weeks before sending her home.  I will be ready to have her home by then.  She is coming for an overnight this Saturday as she is becoming dependent on the hopsital and needs to return to normal life.

BOB!!  How are you doing?? Thinking about you all morning long.  Check in and let us know that your home and resting.  Try taking pain meds this time and elevate and ice.

Have a great day everyone and heal fast.  We are all getting there.  I sure miss the morning post from Bob.

One foot in front of another and together we move forward.  WE CAN DO IT!!!

    Day 1 AGAIN

Morning. When I wake up and I decide I'm going to eat a nice cheesburger for lunch, I usually change my mind and end up eating Sushi. My point is things change very rapidly.

Thanks for all your encouragement and support. It's heartfelt and all of you give me the hope I need.

It's about when the '' The Storm Hit's ''in life. When the storm hit's, a boat captain uses the harbor and dock to stay safe. In our case '' When the Storm Hit's ''we use each other and the love, kindness and support that these forums feed us. It feeds our soul. Also shares suggestions how others before us healed thru this process.

Although I'm once again grounded, I will be up and operating as soon as I feel I'm ready. Funny how I'm learning how I must train my brain to us and do everything opposite this time around.

The pain is not to bad. Slept pretty well considering. This time around I have an idea what it will be like.. I 'm grateful to have you and be there to help out ''When the Storm Hit's''

A few ''Hello there's'' JENNY who started this story. Doing to much is my code. Easy does it Jenny and we live for moments like your grandson's wedding. Enjoy.

EILLEEN - This will be the only ''Bunion Babes'' group. All are welcome. We need new bunion babes, it helps us when we help them.

RENA - One day when I land that next coaching job, would love you to be head of operations. Even if it's a dream.

NITAGIRL - Were in it to win it!!!! Make sure you get yourself going today. Prayers to your mom already sent!!!

JOAN - We are two members of the V foundation.Helping others that have that 1st & 2nd toe V. LOL Hope you are coming along and make time with that schedule to get your workout in. The soreness passes.

Kim - You will get that towel. Love the honesty about using second toe. I think that's just the way it will be. Keep going after it. Not sure if I picked it up legitimately.

PATRICIA - There are two days when we need to get out of bed. When we want to and when we don't. 9 weeks was a turning point . Glad you get the chance to be with your folks. Very blessed..

SPICE GIRL MEL - Feel like Dorothy on Wizard of OZ now. LOL. Enjoy that boat and summer. Thanks for all that good energy. What we have in common, we are in the same time zone without bunions.

Hope everyone has painfree day. Remember this too shall pass!

    Love and Respect

Hullo Bob - glad to hear you've woken up in less pain. You've got a whole bevy of bunion babes now watching your every post so you're going to have to behave and take it easy this time!

I'm posting a pic of this wonderful swing bed I found last week - it's an old bunk bed top with ropes attached and I've hung it under our lapa ( which is a thatched entertainment area ). Just perfect for all us bunion babes and bunionless Bob to elevate our feet on. I've been lying here listening to all the birds in my garden and munching on a delicious avocado and bacon roll - life is great!
