Hello there

Posted , 29 users are following.

Been following this group for a few weeks now and decided to jump in. I had bunion surgery, hammertoe, plantar fasciitis and tarsal tunnel release, all on the right foot on Feb 26. Have done really well except for falling twice and putting a lot of pressure on my foot trying to keep from falling. I am approaching week three and actually have more pain now than I did at first. Sutures are out, thank goodness and I am still no-weight bearing. I see the surgeon Friday and will probably go into a post surgical boot. I keep thinking I should be further along but I have to consider I had four procedures on one little foot! I am 63 years old and it is not easy getting around. Hubby rented me a knee walker and that really has been a big help. Happy healing to all!

    Week 8 Day 5

Went to see the Surgeon this morning and got the green light to start physio. Also he said I could start to cram my foot into a shoe, sheeesh.  Sounds painful to me.  Physio is on Wednesday so have a few days. Oh I get to toss the BOOT, woo hoo as soon as that happens.  He recommeded toe socks and correct toes.  I found a place that sells correct toes and now on the hunt for toe socks. Taking back the knee scooter on Saturday.

Bob, so glad that you had a good sleep. Hang in there bro.  Your on DAY 1 REPEAT.......lol.  Take it easy, enjoy some comforts, sushi and just relax.

Rena, must be nice to be finally walking the walk in tennis shoes. I am hoping to go out shopping this weekend and see what that brings my way.

Joan, how goes the working out.

Spice Girl Mel, your such an adventure girl.

Patricia, enjoy the outdoors with your bed in the woods.

Jenny, glad things are going well for you and a wedding coming up, how wonderful.

Eileen,  welcome to the group.  We are a fun bunch and Bob keeps us in line.  He usually posts first and that always makes my morning.

Kim, work on that towel girl, you can do it!!  Remind me again what am I supposed to do with the towel?

I hope I didnt miss anyone, but if I did your doing great.

Its Thursday and cold and raining here, oh well.  Summer is around the corner and we can all show off our feet soon.  I cant wait. Have a great day everyone.

Hi Anita, you just have to pick up a towel off the floor with your toes- mainly the big toe of course. Bob says the challenge is to hold it up for 5 seconds. It helps to get the toe bending properly again.

Anita, bob, workouts doing well, 2 weeks ago all I could manage was 5 minutes on cross trainer, today is stuck it for 15 minutes plus upped it to higher level, and also upped my weights on the other exercises,

You d be proud of me Bob.  Tried the treadmill but was very limpy on it, I'll stick with it and will come eventually

Got a bit worried about my foot, thought it looked very bunioney tonight, maybe just my imagination or it swollen.  I drew round my foot on a piece of paper anyway so my other half did his foot too, never realised just how wide my foot is, much bigger than his.

Hope you got another good nights sleep Bob, sleep is healing.

Must go before I loose this post. Night all

    Hey all!    9 WEEKS

Bob....what a relief to hear you actually slept some last night and got through the night ok.  Knew you'd do it ! confused Now you're truly on your way to getting to that beach....yay!!! I appoint you my personal trainer and yes I walked a mile today (stunning day here with max of 20 C) .  My trusty pedometer keeps me in check! Oh, and Bob, can you still keep the count of your first foot so I will know where I am with mine ?????

Jenny....my mentor smile At this stage the only thing that really bothers me is that darn ex-hammer toe which is still swollen and sore alot of the time. I'm doing the manipulation but toe is still stiff alot of the time. How are you doing with yours?

Anita.....thrilled for you that you've booted that boot to kingdom come!  Yoohoo shoe....here come you! (may take a few days until you can bend the foot enough to actually get into a trainer)

Joan....keep telling us about how you're doing in the gym...I am yet to get there sad

Patricia....you've got a piece of paradise there....lucky you!

Kim....I can't pick up a towel even with my good foot!

Mel....our southern belle smile ....keep on keeping on girl !

Meet you all at the finish line!

WEEK 10 DAY 2 ( Left foot for CEO RENA) DAY 2. Right foot. Lot's of math.

    Morning

Slept pretty well again. Saint Annette has stepped up once again. Loving and caring for me more then I could ever imagine.Pain is not to bad as long as I'm elevated. Been bumping my newly repaired left foot a few times. My new left foot seems so much better now that my right is mangled.

Cool thing last night. Dr called me late last night to check on me. Going to get him a thank you card and a gift certificate for dinner to show my appreciation. He's been really great.

I'm basically going to stay on the couch today. Will start my home workout once again in a day or so with AB routine, knee pushups and dumbells. For the Bunion babes that are still struggling with excersising, we have to start making it a priority. 3 things we have to feed, Mental, physical and spiritual state.

PATRICIA - Hope you are enjoying that swing. How awesome.Love watching the birds outside my window on the feeder. They are our kids.

NITAGIRL - Amazing how we loved that scooter when we got it, Wait and see how you feel when you drop it off. You will miss it but glad when it's gone. Almost like a bad boyfriend. LOL. Make sure you go after PT.

JOAN - Very proud of you is right.Keep working it. Maybe try the bike or eliptical. The bike there is no limp. Treadmill may not be the greatest when we have a limp. Throws our hips out. Just keep moving it. Remember were the V foundation.

RENA - Stay consistant with that walking.. Can you clarify temparatures 20c =? Don't be afraid to bump up your walks a little bit every day and get your leg stretches in.

SPICE GIRL MEL. - Glad you checked in for roll call. Wouldn't be the same without you and everyone else. Hope your up and working it!!

JENNY- The founder. Hope you are feeling good and resuming your life.

Remember Bunion Babes, when we get to PT make sure we gravitate to the people who are struggling more then we are in PT and encourage them. Talking about the elderly man or woman who need that push.

We may feel lonely some days, we aren't alone. We have each other!

Blimey Bob ...youve gone for 2nd foot !!!!!!!! already. Do you live in America/Canada ?? You are an inspiration. Or you are mad. !!!!!!

Well at least you know what to expect this time and that is what we didnt have before we started this saga.

I went to see the surgeon last week and he informed me, after 3months my foot is doing great all the work I have done on it to get it back to normal is working.

THEN he gave me a BOMBSHELL... because the foot was so deformed he is doing a 2 part operation. At no time in the process of the operation and recovery did I know this. So I will be having 4 ops in total, when I have the right foot done. Bob I will be on the site for a while longer so please feel free to send me support, as I will you and the others

be, what did the surgeon say was wrong with your foot, mine was really deformed too, sill got a bump, I have to see surgeon in another week and I was wondering if he might say the same thing to me as my other toes do not touch the ground.  Oh well I will wait and see, I have another foot to do too. (I am nearlly 12 weeks now), walking with a limp, but getting less limpy every day.  I am also part of the V toe convention along with Bob.

    WEEK 9!!!

    Morning everyone.

After wearing my sandals for a while yesterday and excited about it, they are too tight.  I really need to buy some this weekend as I was up till after midnight not able to get my foot to calm down from the pain. Had to take a strong pain killer and I havent taken any for a while now.

Today I am going to do laundry for the first time. That will mean a lot of down and up the stairs but this will be good excercise. My Mom is coming home on Saturday for a sleep over so must tidy up the house a little and check the dust downstairs where her suite is.  Supposed to be a really nice day today here, sunny and that really helps the mood.

Bob, you almost made me reach for a kleenex this morning with your comment " we have each other" This is so true. Imagine all of us have shared, and vented and feel like we truly all know each other but have never met. Doesnt matter, we are all still part of our lives and this road travelled could not have done without all these wonderful new friends we have.

Patricia, how goes the walking?  Have you enjoyed some more nice time on your outdoor bed? All you need is a nice drink and life is wonderful (could be a smoothie, doesnt have to be alcohl)

Joan, Your doing great and to get back into the excercise WOW. I am so looking forward to that. Your my mentor. Keep pushing it and I will too.

Rena, walk the walk.  Cant wait to get my pedometer going again. I might just dust it off this weekend to push myself a little more. I have a FitBit and love it as it downloads right to my computer and I can see the results daily, weekly and monthly and more if i want.  Time to bump it up here.

SG Mel, So nice that life has returned to normal for you. Your help and mentorship has helped me a lot too. ENjoy your new and improved feet.

Jenny, How is your new found foot life??

Have an awesome day and like Bob keeps telling us "MOVE IT"

    WEEK 9 WEEK 9 WEEK 9

Moving right along. I am really getting tired of sleeping on my back.  Cant wait to get up in the morning and move to my postion of lazy boy couch and elevate my foot.  The scabs are all off.  I know that is gross but that is success for me. Now getting the scars healed is next. Went out last night looking at shoes, MENS, and they are too tight on the toes no matter how big the size and really HOT too.  I found MENS crocs. They are good but foot feels a little stuffed into them.  I know the sweeling will come down so will bear it. It sure is lighter then the boot and does have some protection too. I can go barefoot which I havent been.  My foot loves the fuzzy sock it gets. I have one fuzzy sock and one normal on all the time. Looks different but no fashion statement here.

My Mom is coming for the weekend today after lunch. Should be nice. Not sure how much patience or entertaining I am up for. Will keep it quiet around here.  I am going to put a strawberry banana loaf in the oven for a treat. The scooter is going back today.

Bob, hang in there. A bumpy road ahead but I am here for you. Drink lots of water, elevate and ice. You can do it!!  You proved it once already.  Just think you will NEVER have to do this again.  Take it easy this weekend and spend some nice quality time with Annette.

To the rest, hope things are going well and your all up and running around.  Sure is nice getting back into the real world. ENjoy every day as it is a gift.

Good morning folks! I'm going to get outside on my bike later this morning. It's supposed to be a lovely day. I actually had to put my "summer boot" back on yesterday to finish up some errands. My foot didn't like walking around in flip flops like I was. I've also developed this weird lump on the bottom of my GOOD foot which I have researched online and think it might be a plantar fibroma. sad Going to try to ignore it for now.

Anita congrats on the crocs! I would think once they don't feel tight they will be pretty dang comfy! (You know I had to throw in a Dang!) They have a good shape and they seem like they'd have a cushioned feel to them. And good riddance to the scooter too. Yay! You are moving along!! Enjoy your time with your mom today.

Bob I felt sad to read that you're struggling with intense pain and the loss of a dear friend. Hang in there! You certainly don't deserve to struggle like this but I think I know enough about you at this point to say you will weather this storm like a champ and soon will be encouraging everyone else again. You are amazing that way!

Hope everyone is continuing on with forward progress! Have a great weekend.

Mel. Glad your doing well. Think I may have that same bump on bottom of foot. A bit painful. Thanks for the ''Pick me up''

Bob, what in the world? I think mine developed by favoring my bunion foot. It hurts when I push on it (so don't push on it, right?) and also when I bend my toes upwards. Our usual ice and elevation stuff doesn't help it. I might try heat.

I had a very nice bike ride. It is a perfect day with Carolina blue skies, pleasant temps and low humidity. I thought about you and everyone else here and tried to spread the good energy around to all. I took a moment to count my blessings for all the wonderful people I've encountered on this journey and to be able to experience such a perfect day. Maybe it was all an endorphin rush, it's been a while, so I don't know. Haha! But it was a great feeling and if I could've truly shared, you would've been right up there at the top. My wish for you today is diminished pain and a sense of peace in your heart.
