Hello there

Been following this group for a few weeks now and decided to jump in. I had bunion surgery, hammertoe, plantar fasciitis and tarsal tunnel release, all on the right foot on Feb 26. Have done really well except for falling twice and putting a lot of pressure on my foot trying to keep from falling. I am approaching week three and actually have more pain now than I did at first. Sutures are out, thank goodness and I am still no-weight bearing. I see the surgeon Friday and will probably go into a post surgical boot. I keep thinking I should be further along but I have to consider I had four procedures on one little foot! I am 63 years old and it is not easy getting around. Hubby rented me a knee walker and that really has been a big help. Happy healing to all!

Anita, I'm almost 6 weeks post-op and I would absolutely do it all over again. Just wait until you see your new feet for the first time! I tried to get into walking shoes for the first time yesterday, but couldn't make my feet bend enough. Guess I'll have to stick with sandals for awhile...good thing summer is right around the corner. Good luck with your surgery. The first few days are uncomfortable but it just gets better from there. I was expecting to be laid up on the couch for several months and that's just not the case. My husband and I went to a movie today and I drove for the first time. How liberating that was! I think I'm going to venture out on my own tomorrow...can't wait.

Lynn, way to go. Sounds great to get out to the movies and driving too. What movie did you see?? Yes, its a good thing summer is coming and sandals will work, thats what I am looking forward to. Dont do too much tomorrow, baby steps but enjoy your time out.

We saw The Grand Budapest Hotel. It was great getting out for a couple of hours but I'm now sitting with my feet up. The sun is shining for the first time in several days and it really helps my mental attitude.

Anita, I was fretting about my op for months, but I felt it was such a big deal to me, no one else seemed to realise how long the recovery time or the fact being off your feet was affecting me. Then someone said to me, at least you know you will get better. And I thought true, it's only going to be a short time in my life, a friend had his leg amputated, so that must be awful to deal with. At least we know we will get better. Enjoy recuperating, reading mags and getting looked after, you deserve it.

Thanks Joan. Actually I am lucky as I was scheduled within 2 weeks for seeing the surgeon so really havent had too much time to worry. Yes, I am worth it. Thanks for that. I have a box of magazines I havent had time to look at but now is the time. I have it pulled out and put by the sofa already. Well I best go as my Turkey is smelling cooked, yum.

Morning everyone!! Its Thursday and 3am for me. No, I dont usually get up this early but cant sleep. Mind is racing. Last night we had turkey for dinner and it was yummy. I made some broth last night and have it in the fridge so I can skim off the fat and make a pot of soup today. Making Turkey enchiladas too. This will be my last time cooking for a while. I need to get to the grocery store today too. The time is going very quickly and it will all be over with very soon and my date with the couch will start. Oh, I hope I dont hate the couch too much. Going to hook up NetFlix today too. As I am in Canada ours isnt as good so I will be getting the US one. I checked and there is a show I used to watch a long time ago (pirated show) called Nip and Tuck. So looking forward to watching it. I am sure there are other ones I havent seen that are good too. Bob, do you have Netflix? Well off to play Candy Crush on facebook, as it is a good time waster. I am enjoying my last few sleeps on my side. Chat with you all later.

    Morning everyone

Had to work yesterday and foot bearing up quite well. My big toe seems to go completely rigid every now and then. Has anyone else experienced this?

Lynn - Been told by consultant to wear trainers to support and protect foot. Not the weather for sandals here anyway.

One exercise given (I'm 6 weeks now) put foot on towel and scrunch up with toes then flatten towel out again. Will go and try this in a mo.

Bob - I have googled Ventnor cafe and it looks a great place to visit. Have you tried sleeping on your side? I managed it with my bad foot on top of a pillow under duvet and small cushion between both my knees.

Anita - I absolutely 100 per cent do not regret having op. My foot is lovely and straight. Not sure they pulled the tendon in my hammertoe enough. It is now shorter than my good foot! But what does that matter.

Are you having local or general anaesthetic, I had local and it was fine. If I don't get a chance later to jump on, GOOD LUCK. You will be fine.

Jill - why is your blog waiting approval????

    Good morning to the gang!!!

First things first. Grateful to wake up and see the sunshine, have a cup of tea and Saint Annette is making me a nice breakfast.

WHY IS JILL WAITING APPROVAL.? We need Jill!!!!!

Day 8 - As long as I stay elevated i'm not in much pain. Developed a blister on top of my big toe. Have know idea why. Slept well last night and Jan, I will try what you suggested . Thank you.

ANITAgirl - Enjoy today, that is all we have!!!!!!

Anyway, going to get a much needed haircut, In my career as a firefighter I had to keep my hair short and since I retired last Feb. It's been a bit long. Speaking of my career, please pray for the two Boston Mass. firefighters who lost their lives yesterday in the line of duty. Horiible, trapped in a basement. Been there myself and managed to get out. RIP. Also following that Maylasia plane crash. Very fishy.

Hope everyone has a peacefull day Until next time

    Love and Respect

Am having a queiter day today as did too much yesterday but fine.

    All have a good day

Jan, I know sandals don't give me much support, but I can't bend my foot enough to put on trainers. Any suggestions out there?

WOW, just signed up with Netflix and the USA version, as they have way more movies then for us Canadians. So happy to see that they have Nip and Tuck. My brother used to send me the pirated version years ago and I know I havent seen them all. So excited I am watching already and cant wait till tomorrow. I know hubby wont want to watch this. All of a sudden tv wont be so boring, woo hoo Any suggestions for good movies to watch?

Bob, sorry to hear about the firefighters and their families and also yes the Malaysian flight something is very very fishy. I feel so sorry for all the passengers and their loved ones. Enjoy your haircut today. Cant imagine getting out after just a week. I keep looking at my stairs shaking my head as it was so hard just practising.

Jill, I hear you on the awaiting approval stuff. I wanted to put on a happy song for us from utube and it is still awaiting approval, what with that!! It was the Happiness Song 2014, if anyone wants to check it out cause they dont allow it, sheeesh

Jan, I am getting put to sleep zzzzzzzzzzzzz so wont know a thing. I havent been sleeping very well so hopefully I will be out for the weekend, lol How is the foot doing today?

Lynn, how long before you can bend your foot? Any ideas from the Doctor?

Sorry to sound so over and over again, but today is my last day of freedom from the couch. Nervous and anxiety ridden. I know I have to do this and I will. You all survived and so will I. You are all a great support and believe me I will need you all more then ever. To bad we cant all meet for coffee when we are all healed but we will enjoy each others challenges good or bad and drink coffee etc. while we type. Isnt the internet wonderful. Have a great day everyone and smile............its going to be a great day!!

Eileen, I hate that you had a painful day also but it is good to know that it is normal. My physical therapy net very well. She was so gentle with me. Showed me how to push fluid out of my toes and foot, massage techniques and gave me exercises to do three times a day. My foot felt wonderful this morning. Today I couldn't stand the living room and kitchen floors another second so I ran the vacuum and mopped them both. Such a chore since I am still non- weight bearing on the surgical foot. I also dusted the living room today and vacuumed the bathroom and bedroom. Whew, that's it for me today.

Anita, tomorrow is the day! I was knocked out for my surgery as well thank God! You will do fine. I love how my foot looks now!

Glad everyone is doing good. Can't wait for the warmer weather that is supposed to be here tomorrow!!

All the best for tomorrow- you'll do well. And just think how pretty your foot/feet will look in the new summer sandals that you will buy. I would do this all again .....maybe skip a little of the first week if I could! I have so enjoyed the rest and haven't been bored at all. In fact I'm really sad that in two weeks time I'll be expected to start becoming 'normal' again. It's been good for me and you have all helped me on my way so thank you all!!

    H all

    Hope everyone is keeping well?

I'm now 15 days post op, and had my dressing removed this morning. Let's just say my foot definitely looks like it's been in a fight-very bruised and obviously swollen. The hospital have said that I need to start full weight bearing but I'm finding it way too painful to even try. I had the capital oesteomy op and have weaned off the painkillers totally.

I've asked this before and would really appreciate some advice on how soon others started weight bearing? Any tips/advice etc.

Also any idea's on the best/most comfortable shoes to wear?

    Cheers

    Carmen
