Help me please!

Hi all, new to the forum, will try and contribute myself.

A very quick break down.

1. Headaches for 11 years, in middle of eyes and forehead ( Dizzyness, Lathergy, Blurred Vision, Squinty eyes, Pain wink

2. Two Sinus surgeries and no improvement ( Alergy testing displayed nothing, blood tests nothing, acupuncture useless)

3. Tried every spray / anti biotics / Pills no improvement

ENT have now discharged me as the CT scans show an improvement in the sinus area, but I feel exactly the same.

Can anyone offer me support and advice ? Really confused / I''m not sure where I can go next.

Thanks for reading I will repay by feeding back on others.

Goodness, this is a horrible condition (I have others as well) mine started after a head and nasal injury, I have posted elsewhere as the GP has dismissed me without further investigations and said "nothing will work - have to learn to live with it". I see that may well be the case but I'm miffed that I have no investigations just in case there is a cause or other dx. I may move to another practice as this appraoch is getting old now - every time it is live with it, take otc remedies etc. Really hard to get any referral.

I cannot offer anyone else advice as I am working through the advice others have given me. Currently having teeth checked for infections in case they contribute - I had some damage to front ones in the fall. I have digestive problems and am informed that this can also lead to sinus issues from silent reflux and such.

I also suspect some underlying allergy or reaction to pollutants as a child I did have a lot of catarrh which I grew out of unless had a cold and the GP tried allergy shots at the time which did nothing much  and advised to live near the sea air! Now alas, I live really far from the sea and in a built up area, not from choice.

Sorry that you have no success with all your treatments Jo. Since I have become ill I realise that medicine still has a long way to go with some conditions. If I make any progress I will also post and share. Take care.

Also another questions guys that have replied.

Do you get colds / Flu ?

Do you get any nasal drippage ?

I don't get ANYTHING out of my nose at all, which I find very strange if my sinuses are in good shape as the consultent has lead me to believe.

Omg, me too - never discharge!!! I always wonder about this as sinusitis is usually when you get green stuff ie infection whereas mine is all internal - when I have an infection it's characterised by tooth scheme and eye pain on the left side, where the nasal spur is.

I rarely get colds but when I do sinusitis is worse! Asthma too but nothing like those damn sinuses.

The fact that we have dry conditions suggests they are not working properly surely!

I meant to add. My surgeon has said the next step is to treat me for migraines. I really don't think that's what it is. But I'll try anything x

I am at a point that i can not tell if it is a cold r not. I do get a lot of drainage. From the nose and post nasal

It's odd isn't it, I used to get colds alot, I think i still get them but nothing comes out at all, it just gets clogged up in my sinus.

I've been refured to a "Pain specialist" now, i'm still convinced its my nasal passage / sinus thats causing the issue, the fact I don't get any nasal dripage when I have a cold should prove somethings not right surely ?

Surely that's a sign the sinuses arent working, I wonder if there's a condition that's related to that ...other things eg polpys etc might be red herrings

Rumana and all of you suffering that dryness in your nose....god I get it too ...or I did before I got treatment.....but the solution if you give it a go....get a steroid nasal spray and spray it into your nose where it is sore and dry. Don't snort it up your nose. Just spray around the inside dry part of your nose. Fixonaise or Beconaise should do it. It will help amazingly. It is inflammation that causes that drying and pain. I sympathise with you all. Horrible condition.x

A slightly private question, but is anyone on any medication, i'm looking for common factors.

I take a small dosage of citalopram and Vit D tablets

    • Posted

hey,. I also take a small dose of citalopram. Vitamin D and 2 omeprozole tablets every day.

I have stopped taking the Cit before tho and the sinus pain was just as bad. This sounds crazy, but i went almost a week once living on water.with the odd bit of chicken.thinking it must be something i was eating or drinking that was causing it. There was no improvement. Absolutley nothing seems to help.

You sound very much like me, I've done similar things, clutching to any straw that helps me get through.

No Monitors, no contact lens, lots of water, no milk, no nictotine, no alchohol, no diary.

I'm guessing you've seen the reports online about Chronic Sinus issues and citalopram ?

yeah i read up on that. I spoke to my doctor about it too and he seemed to dismiss it. I changed from citalopram to venlalic to see if it made a difference, then I stopped them both. But i didnt work.

I know smoking, alcohol, dairy etc make it worse. But stopping them all doesnt actually make it better. I've gone months without a drink, I don't drink milk or eat cheese (and i sound like a broken record here) but nothing helps.

Can I ask, is the pain there as soon as you wake up? I seem to manage a few hours in the morning where it's managable, then about 11am, i can feel it starting.

I have to sleep on my left side as the pressure is too much when my head it tilted to the right. And i think this relieves the pressure a bit during the night so i get a couple of hours peace in the morning

      sorry, i'm ranting again here.

Don't be silly thats what this place is for, so you don't feel alone and you can vent. It sounds like we have pretty much the same symptoms.

95% of the time I'm ok until maybe 11, then I feel the fog decent and the headaches start, is that the same as you ?

Do you vape by any chance ?

    • Posted

yep that's exactly like me. My head is fuzzy, can feel the headache coming on, then it's downhill from there.By 4pm i'm exhausted and could just go to bed and sleep till the next day.

No, I don't vape. I used to tho, ,months ago. Have you smoked ? I used to, but i've stopped for a while now.

I've been reading up on dry sinuses. As I don't have anything coming out my nose. No drip, no mucus, nothing. And it sounds like what we have. Although as usual, reading up on it is fine, but no one can offer a treatment. I've been using a saline rinse but i don't think it's helped either

Yes exactly the same here as top paragraph.

I do vape and again, I've seen links to that and sinus issues, so may look to quit that. Smoked a little for a few years nothing heavy though.

I find the rinse, makes mine go one of two ways, 1st is severe pain for a week or so, the other is a nice cleanish head for a few days.

same here, what can help one week, can make things worse the next. Which makes me think it's not really working at all.

It's crazy that so many people suffer like this, yet no one has any answers.

Oh, and evening primrose doesnt work either.

I have a follow up with the surgeon in Oct. I doubt i'll be any further forward tho

A doc I saw recently was very sympathetic, especially as I get toothache quite often, I'm guessing when there's a bad infection adding to the 24hr headaches.

He gave me amitriptyline, an antidepressant used for facial pain.

I've had it about a week, it makes me groggy in the morning but I have to say I'm only taking Solpadeine max soluble (my usual painkiller as others don't do anything for me) once instead of three times...it's not magic but it seems to have helped. I'll see the long term side effects to decide whether I want to remain on it.
