Hemorrhoids - Rafaelo - Post procedure doubt

Posted , 25 users are following.

I had two Grade-2 Hemorrhoids and went through Rafealo procedure 3 weeks back to get them removed. My initial problem was the skin swelling during and post BM around anus (prolapsing hemorrhoids with immediate reduction) and no bleeding.

In the first week post ops there was little bleeding and no swelling. From Second week onwards skin swelling has returned back (skin protruding post BM and shrinking) and it seems like my original problem has returned. Not sure if that's Hemorrhoids or skin tag or swelling. I am seeing consultant on Sunday and will update..but if someone has faced this kindly share your experience..will give me some reassurance..

      Hi Tej,

Sorry to hear that. I think Im in same situation as you are, Im 6 weeks post op. But still experiencing same issues, swelling around my anus, which hinders stool passage.

You mentioned that you may have to go for rafaelo again, which Im also considering. I still have faith in the system

Pls let me knw your final decision on this,.

      Thanks

    Hi,

I am so glad that I found this thread. I had this treatment a year ago in December, and I am still having issues. It is definitely not what they advertise as quick and pain free. After the treatment I experienced extreme pain but I thought this was down to the fact that during child birth there had been trauma to the area and so I was just taking longer to recover due to this. I even thought the haemorrhoids had come back but my nurse said it looked like skin tags and that scar tissue had formed. Due to the fact I had to travel for this treatment I have never had a follow up with the Doctor that performed the surgery, I emailed him a few times about the pain I was experiencing, that there were lumps there and that the nurse had said there might be scar tissue. But he was always dismissive and said there was no scarring and to keep taking laxatives to help with BM. I am still experiencing pain at BM, like a stinging or burning sensation, I still have to take laxatives, The nurse had suggested it might be that the scar tissue doesn't stretch and this is the problem. I have gone back to my local GP and have been referred to a specialist, just waiting on the appointment date. I thought for a time there my symptoms were getting better as it still hurt at BM but the pain did not last as long afterwards but symptoms seem to have gotten worse again. Like someone previously said I had this treatment last year just before Christmas, and I totally ruined my time. I think there needs to be more said bout these negative side effects and it not be brushed away as i feel they are still experimenting with this new procedure.

for their business surgeons lie easily... 1 to 2 weeks recovery, minimum pain, and so on... otherwise nobody trust them to pay.... the fact!

Sorry to hear this. I agree the marketing makes it sound better than it is. But I have had good results and am really grateful to have my life back. Had the Rafaelo nearly a year ago (March 2018). I have a skin tag which is annoying to keep clean after BM but so much better than hems. I still think it worth having especially if you have insurance or can get it on the NHS. You only have to look at the haemorrhoidectomy message threads to see how much better Rafaelo is. And I assume mainly people who have had bad experiences or are anxious will post here (I am the anxious sort!). I would recommend it over living with hems.

I hope your situation improves. It doesn't sound like your surgeon has been the most understanding. Good luck.

Give it time, take painkillers if you can, and go easy on yourself (try not to sit for long periods of time etc). Drink plenty of water, get a decent amount of fibre, lots of veggies etc. Good luck!

thanks very much how long for you before the pain becomes bearable. I'm pretty much bed bound and in either moderate to severe pain all day. is that normal?

Hi. I hear you. it was the same for me.

can't remember well. But I think it took about 3 weeks. i remember that every day I felt better and better. but it was so slow. So I could see improvement which kept me going. for me the main problem was passing stool. BM was unbearable. excruciating And then for the next few hours just couldn't sit . bed all day. But it got better... So hang in there.

mow I am 7month post op. And I am happy I did it.

thank you so much for your reply. That sounds very similar to my experience. I am in excruciating pain after a BM for several hours. I am housebound and pretty much in bed for most of the day . I had absolutely no idea it was going to be like this. Nobody had given any indication that it would be anything other than a couple of days recovery.. I had absolutely no idea it was going to be like this.

Can you remember when the pain started to ease please As at the moment – day six – there is no easing of the pain at all And I am due back at work next week.

Well was the same for me. I thought it would be only a couple of days. had it on Wednesday evening.. I work only Monday and Tuesdays so I thought i would be more than ready to go on Monday to work.. I was definerlty not. had to be off for 2 weeks. had to get a Dr certificate signing me off.

I was able to go back the 3rd week. So that's when passing stool started to be less painful. And totally manageable..

I was absolutely a wreck. I have 2 small kids and was unable to do anything.. I was going crazy of the pain. But eventually it eased. I used to put ice packs all time after BM. And just lay for hours in bed.

Don't force it. the more u rest the quicker u will recover. I literally spent probably 22hs in bed a day. on my side..

      good luck

thanks for this, This forum is helpful because the pain is so severe it is very worrying. None of the literature or my surgeon warned about this I am six days post op And if anything it has been the most painful day so far. That is what is most worrying it just doesn’t seem to be improving i don’t suppose you can remember what day Things became bearable

Well I went back to work on day 19 so I guess a couple if days before.. Just give it another full week.i know it's worrying. But it happened to most of the people having the procedure. So it's normal..

I have now developed a small hard pea like lump which is slightly protruding and is extremely tender to say the least. It is a week since I had my procedure – Raffaello and I just wondered whether anybody Else had experienced anything similar and also what it might be. Could it be a thrombosed haemorrhoid or a skin tag? And will it go away eventually and if so roughly when. I’m still in a lot of pain one week on and the pain is harder to cope with now than it was at the beginning.

How did your recovery go please? I am almost two weeks on from rafaelo and have been very worried about my recovery. I have got what feels like a thrombosed hem but have been told that it is a skin tag. It has been very painful and swells up after BMs. This recovery is taking a lot longer than expected.
