Hi about to try a little experiment on lichen planus and lichen sclorosis

I have lichen sclorosis and lichen planus of the vulva. I have had this for about 14 years. Dermovate is not the best control medication although it is just about all there is. My symptoms are at present full blown. My dermatologist is thinking oral steroids..I am not thinking that way at all. I have had a look at the 48 hour fast idea which is thought to reset the immune system. You have to do this one twice a year. I am going to give this a shot in September so anyone who wants to join me on this give me a shout cause I could do with the support. Also there is a new study on tumeric and oral lichen planus(mucus membranes) Apparently in clinical trials the oral lichen planus cleared in 6 weeks using a topical turmeric ointment which was specially prepared. However the intment did make the patients very sore during the 6 week process.  If the fasting does not work then I guess it is to the kitchen for me with a lot of tumeric root. You can find all of this on this net just put in 48 hour fast resets the immune system or tumeric heals oral lichen planus. We can but try, hope, and try again..maybe this can work.

thanks for update...sounds like you're going good.

      are you hyperthyroid?

No I think I am hypothyroid..am on thyroxine..trouble is my thyroid went out of wack and I was on too much. Although the dose is cut I think it has not bottomed out yet and must be cut again..I think that is why everything went into overdrive with the lichen. It takes approx 6 weeks before you can tell on the levels so am due for another blood test..x

My LS first surfaced when my thyroid went out of whack.  It's important to be checked regularly.  Are you sure you're not hyper - usually you get weight gain not loss with hypothyroidism.  I know it can take a good while to get the dosage right but when you do you'll probably see an improvement with the LS.

good point ....and an interesting one!  thats what happened to me too!

as a result i'm looking into all my nutritional deficiences. they are considerable...as seems is true for most people.

i've dug out around whilst researching as you probably have too? I wonder if we could exchange ideas? The most often repeated info I'm finding is that the thyroid benefits from balanced levels of: iodine, iron, selenium and zinc. There are issues with each in getting things right...but on top of that there are the basic multi vits...best from whole foods ....and a plethora of stuff...which to be honest I'm finding a bit overwhelming. And yet I know that that is the way to go. So I feel I've been pointed in the right direction...however I don't know about you but I could do with some nagging to take the stuff !!!!!!!  Its organising it all. There's so much! How are you finding supplementation? A breeze? Fancy exchanging some mutual encouragement?

Have you ever thought about doing hair mineral tests ? To see which defiencies you actually have as the blood tests aren't very helpful as they only check what is in your blood not the cells, you probably know this alreadly, lol. But it is very interesting I'm looking into this now.

Also try the website cronometer the american way it gives you a break down of vitamins and minerals you comsume from food, I'm always deficient in quite a few mainly sodium, potassium, folate and a few others these are all pretty important for your body to run smoothly. I bet if we all could check we are all very deficient in lots of minerals which could be causing our LS sad

      Thanks kellie!

I don't mind how many times such valuable info is repeated!! Especially if it might help someone else....but you're right up there on the front line as far as I'm concerned. Yes I could do with a hair analysis test!!!

Know any labs in the UK ?

Are there threads on here with anyone suffering from scalp and hair problems..they might know

      You're welcome

If the info only helps 1 person it's helped smile I'm not sure who does it in the UK but it can be sent to the states, you have to use a lab that doesn't wash the hair.

excellent advice there from kate...as always!

may i also add a suggestion?

if you're wavering back and forth with symptoms when taking thyroxin....you may be interested to know there's a theory that a 30 day dose of thyroxine or pref armour (which is natural in that its from pig...please don't allow horse) can reset the thyroid.

you may have achieved this ...and are now overdosing..so its important to listen to your body as you seem to be doing sky.

what you could try should you so wish is 200 mg of selenium instead of the thyroxin together with a daily painting of iodine on your tummy.

this can address the underlying thyroid imbalance....by experimenting with what caused the problem in the first place. both selenium and iodine are in massively short supply...rushing to adjust thyroxin can be overwhelming.

the TSH reading at your GP's measures only the pituitary's prompting from the hypothalamus by way of signally to the thyroid ...to produce more thyroxin...because all the ingredients are not there ...so its our job to resource what the body needs...starting with the lowest dose of the least of those  micronutrients...does this make sense...rather than whacking the horse with a big stick befoe you've explored the subtleties x

Hi again..I was on armour when I lived in the States..but I cannot get it here..or can I? Will try the selenium when I can get down to buy some. paint the iodine? Another clinical study in India on LS has had good results with aloe vera..but I am uncertain whether that study is meant as a control or whether they are saying it is completely gone..and that seems to be the bit that is missing in the online transcript..

.am also after burdock..tincture..that is for the LS(oral).although it is difficult to get hold of and I worry about things like that for sale on the internet. Might end up seeing the medical herbalist yet as I really need some good direction.

A word of warning - many people are allergic to iodine (myself included) and they may not know.  If you do anything as drastic as painting iodine on yourself - try on a very smll area of skin first.  If you get hives or other inflamation steer well clear.  It is a hereditary allergy (my grandmother was once bedridden on her stomach for over a week, because she took the skin off her back using it).

sending you a link to the armour, with credit to dak, and suggestion of getting your iodine levels tested...its a urine sample so pretty painless!

      hi sky

did you receive the link to thyroid uk? there are pharmacies that will dispense armour....which is natural desiccated thyroid NDT...on a named patient basis with a prescription...otherwise its a sub to the states for theirs - without prescription.

will depend on whats easiest for you and how obliging your GP is...but guess what..this is another condition they're in the dark over. you have to push apparently...as if we don't do enough of that!! the issue is cost. the artificial forms of thyroxin - levothyroxin...or similiar...were invented and 'pattented' in the 50's...so now revenue enters in to the equation. ....again!
