Hi there,

Just needed to touch base with other implanon users. Had a baby girl in July and opted for Implanon for family planning, as I am quite forgetful when it comes to taking the pill.

I chose to look at a few forums worldwide as of the last few days, just to gain an insight to implanon effects.

I have had it in for a month and within 2 weeks a had a period that lasted a week, very unusual for me. But the most worrying side effect has been the way I have been feeling the last few days. Nervous, anxious, depressed. The thoughts have just been doom and gloom, fear of losing my husband and loved ones, not wanting myself or husband to leave the house, and constantly crying. Has anyone else felt this way or been depressed. Never felt like this before!!! Thankssadsad:yikes:

Constant bleeding, complete lack of sex drive! Both of these thing have been driving me nuts for the past 2 and a half years. Not many prople seem to mention the sex drive bit. It has been driving my partner mad (and away from me). My gp told me that it was probably not a side effect of the implant!?!? Has anyone else had a similar experience.

ps. The company that manufactures this product should provide us all with M&S knickers - because I don't have a decent pair left!!!

I have not had a good experience with this form of contraception. It made me violently sick the day after I had it, then a constant period ever since, with complete lack of sex drive - not great for my relationship. My gp mentioned there are now alternatives for the bleeding problem associated with implanon, but this was never mentioned to me. If you do suffer any side effects - get it removed

Following on from my earlier comment in February about my injection nightmare from having my one and only injection back in August last year. I am in a way pleased other women have suffered the same as me although I feel very sorry for you and appreciate how bad things are. I think things are starting to get a bit better for me. I am now having monthly periods although very bad - well I've had two. I have a big build up a week before a period where PMT is severely overexagerated. Really bad headache which feels as though my head is going to explode and bloated stomach and a generally feeling of yuk which you usually get when you are going to start but severely overexagerated. Once a period starts a really bad migraine starts as well (which I never used to get with a period) and really really heavy bleeding (gushing) which is a nightmare when you are at work as you a paranoid about leaking. My headache doesn't go away until my period almost stops. My two periods have lasted the normal amount of time but have been very bad. I hope things improve in the next couple of months.

I went to see a private gynaeocologist and she told me that some people do react really badly to the injection. It gave me some comfort that she said that what I have been experiencing is \"normal\" for people who react badly to the injection and there is more than likely nothing physically wrong with me you just have to wait for the injection to wear off. She examined me to check that I didn't have any cysts on my ovaries which you can get with prolonged bleeding (I wasn't warned about this before I had the injection). I am having an ultrasound scan at the hospital next week to check that there isn't anything physically wrong with me.

You need to push though to get anything on the NHS.

my doctor has recommended the implant and i was all for it as it seems easy and stress free but all experiences appear to have been bad ones, does anybody have anything encouraging to say. :?:

I had the implant inserted by recommendation of my then dr, it was all well and good while it was in, i coped with the irregular periods, and i still got stressed and upset near my periods.

When it came to having it removed because of wanting more children my nightmare began, I went to the dr and he wouldnt remove it without the nurse, booked another appointment with dr n nurse, No removal as the doctor couldnt feel it, he then referred me to someone else more experienced, she couldnt feel it, No removal, she referred me to 2 others, they too couldnt feel it.

I eventually went back to the original dr whom inserted it and asked him to find me someone.

I then spoke to the dr whom was willing to give it ago with ultrasound equip, went for appt, he couldnt see it on scan but said he could feel something and was willin to put me under the knife...Success...Removed but i now hav a very large scar as the dr explained it was inserted incorrectly and was down very deep.

Since removal we hav been trying to concieve but 6 months on still no joy, I sometimes wonder if my fertility has been affected by this error by my original dr.

Please anyone with similar problems, Please Reply.

Hi...I read about your experience posted not too long ago. I am thinking of having an implanon done, i got a blittle worried after i read about your inability to concieve. HAve you heard of anyone else that has also had this problem?

i got the implant put in and the family planning clinic and they did not do any of the neccesary test before inserting it for example pregnancy testing so they put it in and i found that i was pregnant a week later and unfortunatly i lost the baby, and i think that the inplant was done to this although people have told me different i still belive it, i went through a tough time because of it.

Have had the implant now for six months. after insertion I had no bleeding for two weeks then two weeks of bleeding thick brown tarry stuff-yuk. Since then no bleeding till a pretty normal period last week. The way this thing makes me feel though is not good. As soon as I had it put in, my mood slipped and I was very down for a good few weeks and also my sex drive completely disappeared. Although my mood picked up, i found it quite hard to sustain any kind of joy for very long. My sex drive has not come back and I am feeeling more and more guilty that my husband has to beg for sex and I still don't give in! A couple of weeks before this period I just had, I started to grow in such places that I even considered I was pregnant. My breasts grew and so did my belly-just exactly where a baby would go. The swelling has gone down but the weight gain which accompanied it has not gone and I am finding it quite hard to keep my eating under control. I am going to make an appointment to get this thing taken out as I do not want to put on weight, am fed up with feeling down all the time(as are the family) and would love to want to have sex with my husband again. wish me luck!!

I had Implanon put in at the start of February this year. The procedure to put it in was practically pain free except for the tiny sting of the numbing shots. The inside of my arm was a little tender for a couple of days, but it was no big deal.

I got my period the first week of March and it lasted two weeks. Actually, it was extremely light the entire time. A doctor friend of mine said that it was probably me shedding the lining of my uterus for good.

It is now the middle of June and I have not had another period since then. I have not experienced any problems with acne, headaches, mood swings, or depression. I have put on some weight, but I think it has more to do with the types of food I have been eating and not so much due to an increase in appetite.

I am very happy with this foolproof protection. I used to be on Depo Provera for years, but this is even better since I don't have to get shots every three months.

I know people have some negative things to say about this product, but it has worked out really well for me. I also tend to think that people are more fired up to post negative experiences online than positive ones. It's not a perfect solution for everybody, but I hope it works for you. Good luck!

I'm 23 and for the past 5 years have had irregular bleeding.

I have been on the depo injection for the past 3 years and I'm probably the only patient at my doctors that still has irregular bleeding. sad

I already have my injection at 10 week intervals and for the past 4 weeks (while I was on holiday :x ) have had a period and it doesn't seem like it's going to end.......

My doctor has recommended the implant, but reading up I'm not convinced... can anyone recommend anything else.... help......
