How did you lot cope with doing house work before you thr?

Due to being unfit to work i spend all day in the house on my own till family come home but i feel lazy if i do nothing so i constently do housework but the severe pain it cause literally reduces me to curling up in a fetal position and crying, plue tramadol are no help at all for the severe pain im in.

So does anyone have any good tips for housework without chronic pain?

Really know what you mean Sarah. I had to break down my housework into small jobs each day and concentrate on making some great family meals that I could sit down to prepare, rather than a pristine house The ironing is all done sat down as well

My husband and family used to say it upset them to see me in so much pain, they much rather I asked them to do a bit more to help. In the end I took to reading and puzzle books, anyone who knows what this is like would never deem you lazy, its you and only you beating yourself up about resting and looking after yourself. Just think what you would say to a friend if they were going through this - be kind to yourself xxx. Your family would much rather they came home to you happy and rested.Take care xxxx

Yes that makes a lot of sense. The ironing is the worst for me, due to have a curved spine sitting for long periods of time is agony but its the same with standing so cant really win.

Im going to try and do a little bit a day but like i keep saying, having a younger brother as soon as he comes home, whatever i have done is ruined haha xx

Hah, I haven't done any ironing since 1994 (telling a lie, I ironed a dress for my sisters wedding once).

It came about after I had an ectopic pregnancy and was told no housework for 3 months. I use the 'plenty of fabric conditioner' method and bung it all in the tumble drier. I hated ironing anyway and found that there really wasn't any need to do it. We aree look smart and my partner even has wrinkle free work shirts.

Get it out of your life, you don't need it biggrin

I do have an iron I think! My husband was in the RAF and is an expert folder of clothes. As you say plenty of fabric conditioner, tumble dry and fold carefully, preferably whilst still slightly warm. Pile up neatly into person piles, each person then puts away their own. No wrinkles at all

What's this? Never heard of this before!! You wash normally but add plenty of fabric softener goop and then tumble dry or do you... put the goop in the tumble dryer with the clothes?

Yeah don't do it ha ha leave it to your folks hunni you are not fit enough to be doing it.

I find l can do everything at waist level like clean kitchen do dishes l can also put washing on and stuff. But as you know l have had my hips done you are still waiting l would ease of on the housework hun until you are in less pain xxx

I have decided ironing is overated l used to stand on a sunday and iron for 5 hrs. I think l have ironed 4 item in the last 3 months. I have got the tumble dryer routine going where l wash and tumble dry and fold as soon as its out the tumble. Put it away. Plus the fact l have not been at work for months l usually have to wear business dress and needed my clothes neat for work l have not needed this for a while so l dont know what l will do when l go back to work. Currently l have a pile of ironing needing done like tops and shirts that has lay in the basket for months l have no notion to do it and because l know l dont need the clothes that are in it just yet it will stay there until l am ready. As l said ironing is a thing l have always hated so l try my best now to do the fold and put away while its still warm fro tumble dryer ha ha

I haven't ironed in decades, and never will again. All clothes that I buy are ones that work just putting them in the washer, then the dryer, no softener. They can even sit in the dryer for awhile before I get to them, I don't care!

I'm like you I feel lazy.but you have to think of yourself and if other people don't like it it's tuff.they need to clean and tidy.what's going to happen in the weeks after your op?you can't do anything then you will be on crutches.I am just sweeping the floors with my Long handled dustpan and brush cooking dinner washing (putting clothes in and out with my gripper)and that's about it!!just think to yourself I'm in pain my family isn't so therefore I'm looking after myself.xxxx

Its just annoying. Im 20 i should be out working and having fun doing stuff, but iv been told im not fit to work and can hardly ever go out with friends or the MR so i spend all day in the house alone. So i would just like one little bit of normality and do normal thkngs people do in the house like tidy up which tbh i really enjoy doing xx

My daughter got me a couple of adult colouring books and I must say, an hour whizzes by with them! try to pace yourself, not everything has to be done or done immediately.

I'm sure your family really wouldn't want you to suffer more than you have to, but I also get your feelings. Its a hard balance managing home and disease and I don't think anyone has cracked it yet!! I for one just plod on through, try to remember you need to protect that joint beforehand too.

I hope it helps to realise you're not the only one and you're not going mad!

Hahaha theres no joint to project though as i dont actually have on so thats not an issue.

And yup i have loads of colouring books and spend a good 6 or 7 hours a day colouring in haha x

Okay Sarah --- so, are you trying to tell us that you have some kind of OCD regarding a clean kitchen ???? obsessessed with cleaning the kitchen ??

and then your brother just coming in with mud and what-ever-kind-of-dirt from outside ???  can you ask him to take of his shoes/boots ?

Oh I am sure you already did, and he doesn't do it ...

that is very challenging --- especially when you are at home all day, by your self and have to look at it, go into the kitchen etc ...

how do you do it now? it is the floor mostly, right - You might be able to do it now, but I don't think that after the surgery you will ....

not sure what to tell you, sweetheart - He just has to help you out and keep the kitchen and rest of house as clean as possible ...

    big warm  hug

I suppose i do have an ocd type thing regarding the kitchen. It makes me so angry if one thing is out of place or left out. Atm i spend a lot of time hoovering the floor and washing the benches down and stuff and sometimes ill brave it and scrub the floor on my hands and knees but dont do that as often haahaha.

I suppose when im recovering and the Mr is looking after me he will have to do it hahaha
