How I cured my acid reflux, naturally.

Posted , 202 users are following.

Hi:  It seems like there are many more people suffering from acid reflux than ever before.  Professionals offer only medications and surgery.  I have suffered from acid reflux on and off for some 20 years.  After much research and meditation on how the esophageal sphincter functions, I discovered a low cost solution.  Two or three times a day I drink orange flavored carbonated mineral water.  After drinking it, I hold back the burp for 3 to 5 minutes, sometimes longer.  Then burp the air out.  Make sure to always do this right before bed.  This forces the esophageal sphincter to work hard to hold down the increasing air pressure.  It is the only way to strengthen this muscle.  After nearly 2 years of nexium,  I am now completely off acid blockers and only take a sip of water with sodium bicarbonate before bed, just for protrection. Please try this and let me know if you also find relief from acid reflux.  I hope you do.  Regards, John

Where do you get the orange flavored carbonated mineral water or do you buy ingredients to make it yourself?

You can use plain or flavored.  It is found in almost every grocery store in the soda pop area.  Let me know how it works for you.  John

Were you able to try the carbonated water treatment and did it help at all?

Hi. I just started, will let you know. I'm down to one 30 mg ppi per day now (from two). Will start a digestive aid as soon as it arrives in the mail and plan on starting a dgl also.

I'm taking famotadine instead of the ppi in the evening and supplementing with tums right now. So far so good.

      Any suggestions?

I've been on meds, first Pepcid, then Zantac now Lansoprozole for probably 25 yrs. I want to go off them and am looking for how I should go about it.

There is not a lot of information on this since doctors don't seem to acknowledge the acid revenge issue.

Recent studies show that the stomach actually produces more and more proton pumps when a person takes ppi drugs.  The stomach is almost as complex as the human brain.  They have found what appears to be nuerons in the stomach lining.  The stomach proton pumps produce many chemicals and enzymes besides acid.

It took me four attempts to finally get off the ppi drugs.  If you have GERD then it would be helpful to strengthen your esophageal sphincter first.  Use my carbonated water excercise mentioned above.

Most people who have digestive issues usually have more than one problem, more than likely 3 or 4.

I would also recommend eating a lot of probiotic yogurt every day.

I was able to weak off the ppi drugs slowly by opening up the capsule and taking less and less each week over a period of around 4 months.  If you go too fast you could fail and get acid revenge.  When the stomach notices that there is acid in the stomach it will slowly shut down some of the proton pumps.

Normally we don't feel the acid in the stomach.  If you feel it burning, then you may have gastritis, which is inflamation of the lining and likely sore spots or ulcers.

But, I do recommend the carbonated water treatment first and the yogurt to get your bacteria balanced out.  That will prevent bloating and gas from pushing upward.

I don't know why your doctor prescribed the ppi drugs for 25 years, that is crazy.  The stomach makes acid for a reason, to protect against germs and to break down food.

I believe my recent diagnosis of diabetes is a result of poor nutritional absorption due to ppi drugs.  Plus there is the danger of porous bones, heart muscle damage, even dementia.

Keep me updated as to how you are doing.  John

I am so glad I found this post. It's 3am and I can't sleep because of this sensation in my throat and also pressure on the throat / chest. I am so scared of what you had mentioned, not being able to breathe. I got diagnosed with reflux a couple of months back, and I have had stomach issues for as long as I can remember. I get anxiety and the past couple of days I have been drinking wine thinking it wouldn't affect me but I think it made symptoms worse. I am going to try and keep the bed up when I sleep, but I am still so scared. My Gastro pescribed meds but it's like what you all are saying, I want to avoid them. I just tried a bit of the carbonated water method, and I'm hoping it helps rolleyes thank goodness for these forums.

Hi saraanne:  I'm sorry your digestive problems are interfering with your sleep.  I have spent many sleepless nights in the past.

The globus sensation you mentioned can have a number of causes.  It could be acid reflux damage causing inflamation.  It could be a hiatal hernia.  It could be a thyroid problem.  It could even be damage from a previous naso-gastric tube.  Some have found some relief from anti anxiety drugs.  But, I do hate taking any drugs.

Most people who end up on this forum usually have more than one issue, probably 3 or 4.  So I like to address some of the basics that can lead to major issues.

      1. You have to get your intestinal bacteria balanced.  I recommend organic probiotic yogurt 4 or 5 times a day to start.  One before breakfast and one before bed.  A serving can be just a large tablespoonful.

      2.  Some people get success from going vegan for 2 to 4 months.  This can help the stomach reset itself and reduce acid production.

3.Stay regular.  Minimum of one bowel movement per day.

      4. Do the carbonated water treatment 4 or 5 times a day, start with 4 oz and work up to 10 oz per session.  Holding down the burp starting at 5 minutes and working up to 20 minutes per session over a 2 month period.

      5. Take a multi mineral capsule every day.  And I recommend a separate 5 source 500mg magnesium tablet each day.  I use ultramag.

Keep me updated on your progress.  John

Hi, I have had these issues for 12 months now, had endo and have hh inflamed esoph, gerd, done the diet and cut the acid - some days ok some days back to acid.

I  have started a treatment of alternative therapy which I read into which is hands on, not medication, at the treatment I was told I was wheat intolerant - not to gluten nor dairy.  I did not even know I was intolerant to anything!  I have cut out bread and cereal with wheat, but before I even did that my symptoms have almost gone - I thought it was in my head but even the chemical smells that I could not tolerate have disappeared - deodorant etc.  I have had my second treatment which I only need one every 4 weeks.  I am usually typing this with either water brash, or metal mouth or pinching feeling in my left side, sort of got used to it, but it has just gone.  Weird and certainly worth the £35.00 for 2 hours she has charged me.

I will let you know what it is if you feel the need.

Anything to help this awful problem....................G.

      Defo raise your bed now.

That sounds fantastic! How would I go about finding alternative therapy? I live in New York, not sure where you are from? I suppose looking it up online would help?

I agree. This problem truly is awful. Even right now I have this lump in my throat and I took my vitamin 20 mins ago, I keep thinking I'm going to choke! I hate this.

I also found out that multivitamins can cause reflux symptoms. Have you experienced that? It's so hopeless! After I just took mine, I felt the lump in the throat and yet I've been OK for hours. So crazy

I have what is called an undiagnosed esophageal pocket.  If I take a pill or capsule, it can get stuck in the pocket and burn.  If I eat certain foods, it can build up above the stomach and when I drink some water I feel the lump flush through.  I have to be very careful with this issue.  Some people have issues with vitamins also.  They tend to cause a bad taste to burp up.  I only take pills with food and lots of water. maybe its on of the ingerdients in the pill... sometimes pills have sugar/ sorbitol/ xyitol... ik my multi vitamins are gummies and the moment they pass my throat the lump comes, similar to chocolate.... ive ha other pills that do this because they jus contained a certain preservative/ sweeter in the capsule itself

Logically, if you take a gummy, it is chewed up and exposes the esophagus to every ingredient.  If you take it in a gelatin capsule then the only thing exposed is the gelatin.  I still think the capsule may be getting stuck in an esophageal pocket, and disolving there, in saraannes case.

Yes saraanne, I hate that also.  The more you  think about it and the worse it gets.  Then the running saliva kicks in as the anxiety makes the issue worse.  Awful.  I am in England, if you want to pm me I will give you the name of the therapy.  My therapist travels the world going to Retreats as she is also a Healer but the treatment I think you will find is global.

Hope you can find it - weird to say the least.

      G.
