How I cured my acid reflux, naturally.

Posted , 202 users are following.

Hi:  It seems like there are many more people suffering from acid reflux than ever before.  Professionals offer only medications and surgery.  I have suffered from acid reflux on and off for some 20 years.  After much research and meditation on how the esophageal sphincter functions, I discovered a low cost solution.  Two or three times a day I drink orange flavored carbonated mineral water.  After drinking it, I hold back the burp for 3 to 5 minutes, sometimes longer.  Then burp the air out.  Make sure to always do this right before bed.  This forces the esophageal sphincter to work hard to hold down the increasing air pressure.  It is the only way to strengthen this muscle.  After nearly 2 years of nexium,  I am now completely off acid blockers and only take a sip of water with sodium bicarbonate before bed, just for protrection. Please try this and let me know if you also find relief from acid reflux.  I hope you do.  Regards, John

Hi John, just come across this forum as was yet again looking up acid reflux..  at the moment mine is really bad, on a ppi which for many years worked but not now.  Find the Doctors not much help and say that you just have to live with it..  my life has been taken over by it, I didn’t drink much but now I don’t touch any.  Can’t say which foods affect it but have the nasty taste day and night and suck mints and swallow Gaviscon all the time..  I lost weight to see if that helped but now I am loosing more as I don’t fancy my food.  I will try the fruit flavoured water as I am desperate to get any relieve from this awful thing.  Just wanted to thank you as I had no idea so many people were feeling like me.  Good Luck to you all..

      Hi Maggie May:

I understand completely what you are talking about.  Most of us here on this forum have a number of digestive issues, and there seems to be a number of causes.  But, regardless we all want some relief from the main culprit, acid reflux.  After I got that under control, I was able to attack the other issues one at a time.  It certainly is worth a try as we have had a number of success stories.  Just start out slowly using fresh carbonated water, drink about 12 oz and then focus on not burping.  Don't try to do other things as the burp tends to slip out.  Start out with 5 minute sessions 4 times a day for a week and then add 5 minutes per session each week until at week four you are at 20 minute sessions.

Hi Maggie. I just found John's cure and I am excited. I didn't have much problem until my son and his family moved to our town. My husband and I have lived here for 40 years and both our children moved away and got  married and lived in cities and states far away from us. I liked it that way and we always had special time when they visited. Now our son and his wife who have 3 small children and he doing masters degree and her a doctorate are right here 5 minute drive from us. They are constantly phoning and asking us to babysit, but we both work. I don't mind to babysit sometimes, but I need space and don't like someone bugging me all the time with their problems and crowding my space. I started to have indigestion and acid reflux ever since they moved here. I am a health professional and also have a BA in psychology, so I am quite sure that such life changes as it happened to me, also when people move, lose their job, don't have a happy marriage, their kids' behavior is worrying them etc, the stomach doesn't work well. This is especially true if a person is older and I am 70. My husband is a different personality and he likes company and I don't. He is actually quite needy and loves people around. I love to be alone and read and do my hobbies. So I do really feel that my just a mild indigestion that I used to get off and on all my life is much worse now that I feel like my space is crowded. I don't know if you also had some sort of change in your life or someone upsetting you at work or similar.

What brand names, I don't even know of any medication because I never took any and never discussed any here. You must have me mixed up with someone else

Interestingly I had stool analysis done to see if anything going on, it has come back that I have very little good gut bacteria but a lot of bad ones, I’m wondering now wether this is what has been causing my acid reflux 🤔

I still continue daily with the carbonated water and am seeing slight benefits, just need to get these bad bacteria sorted now!!

Most of us here have a number of digestive issues.  Bad bacteria is usually a common one.  Most digestive bacteria resides in the colon, there is comparatively very little in the small intestine.  It is difficult to permanently change the bacteria species.  Some people are just born with poor bacteria colonies and it can affect a person their whole life.  I usually recommend that people eat 1  cup of organic probiotic yogurt 4 times a day.  I'm not confident that probiotic capsules actually work.

The benefit of having good bacteria in the colon is that there is less gas production which can mean less bloating and less upward pressure on the stomach contents.

Some people are so desperate that they have a doctor do a fecal transplant from a healthy person.  It is a whole new approach to digestive and heath problems, but there have been reports of it saving peoples lives.  For some reason, a single dose is all a person needs.  They are currently working on a time release capsule to deliver the treatment for in home use.

Yes my nutritionist told me that we are born with the bacteria that our mothers pass on to us and I’ve done the same to my poor kids!!

Wow that does sound interesting! Let’s hope in the future there will be more of a “quick fix”!!

    Hi John

?Why did you choose orange flavored mineral water and not orange flavored pop which has much more CO2 in it ? How did you find out about this ? Has someone else told you, or you practiced it on your own, or you found out by accident ?

You can use any sparkling drink, I think John used orange as that’s what he liked, I use carbonated mineral water, I guess as long as it’s fizzy!!

Yeah, I was thinking of using lemon lime club soda, that is really popular here, and it has natural lemon and lime oil flavours. I guess with all our acid reflux troubles and probably a lot of life stress we might as well drink something we really like. For some reason I have been quite free from that globus feeling. I cut the size of my 5 meals even smaller and have been eating lot of oranges including the white part of the flesh near the peel. I cut our all alcohol and caffeine and sugar. I only use honey and just once a day in my morning coffee. The coffee I use is Swiss water decaffeinated organic coffee.

Mine has definitely been stress related but an endoscopy showed a slightly loose sphincter.

I’ve also cut out alcohol 😒

My globus has gone now though I still feel like I have phlegm stuck in my throat and I get acid daily but my stress is still there!

I will carry on with my lifestyle changes and hopefully it will improve, I hope yours does too.

Hi John I’ve posted on the forum before about my remedy which has relieved symptoms by 80% and am glad to say it’s all natural: water kefir. I make it myself and flavour it with fruit. It’s naturally carbonating ( very gentle bubbles) and produces a vast range of probiotic bacteria/yeasts and digestive enzymes - all naturally! I’ve been using it for 2 weeks now and feel amazingly liberated. Have been able to eat as normal which is such a plus as I love my food. My husband is giving it a go as he suffers from hives ( water kefir boosts the immune system so the body can heal itself). I have some friends who are also keen to try it for other ailments. If anybody is interested in trying this there is a plethora of information on the internet. Happy fermenting!

Would coconut kefir do the same job? I guess it’s all about the gut bacteria 😀

Great that it’s worked for you😊

Yes you can use coconut water. The natural sugars in it is perfect food for the kefir grains to feed on and produce the healthy gut bacteria. Haven’t tried this yet but on my list to do so. Let me know if you decide to give it a go and if it helps you as it has done me. 😊

I was thinking more coconut milk kefir so it has that slight fizz to it, normal coconut water doesn’t have a fizz, I was using cows milk kefir ( like a drinking yogurt) but I’ve stopped dairy for now.

      I’ll give it a go!

Hello ETHA where can I find the exact remedy you've mentioned. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

I googled information on water kefir and found lots on various websites and blogs. Most of them tell you how to make it. Then I just bought a batch of water kefir grains on eBay and the seller kindly provided a sheet with what to do and flavour ideas to try. It really is worth having a go; you have nothing to lose and it is natural so safe.

Thank you ETHA for the reply. I'm going to try this water kefir.
