How I cured my acid reflux, naturally.

Hi:  It seems like there are many more people suffering from acid reflux than ever before.  Professionals offer only medications and surgery.  I have suffered from acid reflux on and off for some 20 years.  After much research and meditation on how the esophageal sphincter functions, I discovered a low cost solution.  Two or three times a day I drink orange flavored carbonated mineral water.  After drinking it, I hold back the burp for 3 to 5 minutes, sometimes longer.  Then burp the air out.  Make sure to always do this right before bed.  This forces the esophageal sphincter to work hard to hold down the increasing air pressure.  It is the only way to strengthen this muscle.  After nearly 2 years of nexium,  I am now completely off acid blockers and only take a sip of water with sodium bicarbonate before bed, just for protrection. Please try this and let me know if you also find relief from acid reflux.  I hope you do.  Regards, John

This is indeed interesting!!! I've been suffering from acid reflux for a very long time now and really desperate here. I've followed your advise on drinking carbonated mineral water to strengthen the lower esophageal sphincter. I'm just on day two and already feeling the difference. Many thanks!!!

Just wondering how did you find out about this technique? Any reading material I can further read?

Does carbonated water neutralize the stomach acid as well?

    Hoping to hear from you

      Hi Ren:

I actually discovered this treatment by trial and error.  I started out drinking regular water and inverting on an inversion table, even trying to drink from a straw upside down.  They might work, but are uncomfortable and gave me a headache.  So, one day I was at work and one of my fellow workers was swallowing air and burping really loud, on purpose, just to irritate other workers.  I asked him if he ever got heartburn or acid reflux and he said no.  So, I figured if I could exercise my LES, perhaps it would help me.  Soon, I came up with the carbonated water treatment and it worked quite quickly.  Within a few weeks I was sleeping flat on my bed again, after sleeping on a wedge for over 20 years.

Carbonated water does not neutralize stomach acid.  Before bed I usually take a piece of antacid tablet because my stomach tends to make acid even while I sleep.  If I forget to take it, I can wake up with a sore stomach.  I'm hoping some day it will stop doing that.

Thank you for trying the carbonated water treatment, coined by another user as CWT.  I'm glad you have had some benefit already.  The LES wants to do its job, it may just need some exercise, similar to running or jogging to strengthen the heart muscles.

Hiya, I’m actually a little confused now! Is it the burping that is strengthening the sphincter or the trying to hold the burp in for as long as possible?

Thank you once again JOHN for sharing this treatment. I've been on it for 9 days now and the acid reflux at night time has improved a lot and hoping it would completely resolved soon. You're God sent!!!

Prior to taking this treatment on board, I've been on Gaviscon Advance (Gaviscon Double here in Australia) for over a year and it's God sent as well as it eliminated the following symptoms: bloating, abdominal pain, lump and mucus in the throat, sore throat and mild hoarseness. The only symptom left is the night time acid reflux. I stopped ppi when I started myself on Gaviscon Advance.

Maybe I should try taking an antacid as well before bed.

Any other suggestions that might help?

How long should I do this treatment for?

Aren't you planning to open a facebook page?

      Hi Ren:

I am very happy to share something that can help others.  It's very good to hear that you have found some relief.  I also have used my share of gaviscon.  I found that simple antacids don't have the acid revenge effect like ppi drugs.

I would recommend you keep this up until you can sleep flat on your bed without reflux.  It could take a year before your esophagus is able to heal any erosions or scar tissue.

I do have a facebook page but I don't use it much.  I like this forum and it works out well.  The only problem is looking back at previous pages as there are so many now.

Some other things that can help healing.  EV organic low acid olive oil, 1 tblspn every 4 hours and right before bed.  Natural Vitamin E capsules, break them and swallow the liquid E.  ultramag magnesium, 1/2 tablet twice a day, chew it up and take with water.  And lots of organic probiotic yogurt to keep down any bloating.  Thanks for the update, John.

Hi Katie:  Sorry for the late reply.  It is holding down the burp that exercises and strengthens the sphincter.

    Hello Everyone,

I’m new to this reflux thing. Been a month or two. I suffer from health anxiety so I’ve learned to lean into this issues instead of letting my mind take over.  I’ve already been to an ENT who did the nose tube thing to look down my throat. No cancer or anything suspicious but said my throat was inflamed. I’m on 40 mg of Pepcid (taken for about two weeks now) with no help. I have the lump thing and some throat discomfort.  I’ve made some changes to my diet but I’m afraid of losing weight and muscle as I am still a competitive athlete. I’m 52. I’m going to definitely try the carbonated water thing. Looks like the last post was 8 months ago and I was wondering if their has been any updates? People finding relief? I’m being aggressive with this because it’s really affecting my life. I’m seeing a different ENT in two days and I’m wondering what questions or tests is should ask for? Or is it too soon... should I wait a few weeks and let the dietary changes and meds try and heal me... along with the carbonated water thing?  Clad to have found this board!!

An ENT does nothing for you for your acid reflux. You need to get a scope done. Endoscopy this will see what the problem is in your stomach. And ENT cannot see your esophagus or inside your stomach.  Don’t waste your time going there.

Thank you Mary Ann I will ask my GP for a referral to a gastroenterologist and get an endoscopy.  What else have you tried that has helped?

Hi Murphy, I agree with Maryanne, an ENT is a waist of time.

I also have health anxiety so this doesn’t help!

ENT showed nothing on me so I saw a gastroenterologist, I had a Barium swallow which also showed nothing, I also had an endoscopy which showed I had a slightly loose oesophagus sphincter, I then had 24 hour PH testing which showed I had some acid coming up.

Stress is a big factor for mine, I have changed my diet but the gastroenterologist and I agree that deep breathing can be positive.

I also try the carbonated water, I know a lot have had great success using this!

Best of luck, keep us posted!!
