Hysterectomy in two days

Posted , 14 users are following.

Hi ladies, I wrote on this forum a few months back now and had such good advice.

Well my date for my hysterectomy is in two days ( Wednesday) I'm absolutely petrified, I'm not sleeping and I feel so nervous.

Any advice from any of you lovely ladies would be so much appreciated right now. Because at this point in time I feel like running in the opposite direction.

Thanks x

Ann Marie, I am 3 weeks post op TH except overies. Laparoscopic with vaginal assist. I was SOOO NERVOUS the night before and the morning of, but once I got in the hospital I was ok. Once in the surgery room I had a spinal block then the gas mask was put on and the next thing I knew I woke up in recovery. I did have a lil trouble waking up from what the nurses told me (surgery began at 11:20am and ended at 2:30pm, I finally woke up at 7:20pm 😳) The pain was minimal, actually the drugs they were giving me were sooo strong they made me feel worse. Finally the nurses just started giving me Motrin 600 and that's all I needed.

Once your home REST, REST, REST no matter how good you think you feel. Remember, you are healing from the inside, so REST!!

GOOD LUCK YOU WILL BE FINE. 🙏🏽

Hi ann Marie. Thank you. I am going to take the rest of today off from thinking about this and put my tablet away. I wish you a pain free symptom free weekend. I've been talking about this all morning with friends here. Time to wash some dishes and take a swim. I will be in touch to see how you are doing. Take care. Virginia.

    Hello Anne Marie ,

i am also going to have a full hysterectomy in February 25, I'm am also feeling so afraid about everything. I have no option because I suffer from endometriosis and it's all spread on my pelvic floor including bowel , they actually warned me about possible perforations sad sad

its my first time in a hospital here in the uk as Ian from Portugal but I have been living for over a year now.

I have so many doubts about this operation, I feel so young for this but this will bring me a better quality of life. I hope it will work.

Can anyone tell me how long do we stay after the surgery?

Anne Marie I hope all goes well for as I wish for myself. 😊

Hi. I had hysterectomy and oophorectomy for endometriosis last year. You will be fine and not to be in any more pain is worth the other stuff. Hrt is a bit of a nuisance but you get used to it. Good luck

      Hello Froggy28,

so for bothering, but what do you about hrt being a nuisance? How long did you stay in hospital? Are you feeling better now? No problems with endometriosis I suppose??

No problem happy to answer questions. Because I had to have ovaries removed and I'm 40 I need hrt to make up for the loss of estrogen so early. It's only a nuisance in that you have to take it whereas before I didn't take any regular medication. I had my operation done by laparoscopy at 4pm one eve and went home the next morning. So far so good. No sharp endo pains at all since op. They manages to free up bladder and bowel at same time everything had fused before that. I went back to work around 6 weeks. Be prepared to be sore and tired for a few weeks and take it easy. It's too easy to feel ok and do too much. I did something and had a bad bleed at 2 weeks as I felt so much better. Internal stitches take longer to heal. I'm sure you will be fine. Are you losing ovaries. If not you won't need the hrt.

      Hello Carla,

Please don't worry I know that's easy me saying that to you and there was nobody terrified than me, luckily the lively ladies in this site was really helpful. Unfortunately nothing anyone says to you will drop you from worrying. Someone said to me that your mind makes it worse than it is and it is true. What I did was I kept myself busy the day before my op and I trued to relax in the evening.

Tske sanitary towels with you and big knickers a nighty or two and a cushion fir the journey home it helps with the seat belt and protects from bumps.

I was in hospital 3 days but I came home in the evening of the 3rd day. When you start moving around try to walk tall it will help stop backache. Also take peppermint tea for wind pains, they for me was the worst pain not the pain from the op.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. I myself or the other lovely ladies will be more than happy to help

Keep in touch and let me know how you get on. I'm 3 weeks post op bored ti death sick if looking at the same 4 walls haha so Wilk be glad to help.

Yes I'm removing ovaries and uterussad . I feel quite scared. So maybe I be out the next day?

how about sex, do you feel ok about it? I hope I won't loose the sexuall feeling. But hey this depends on each woman is different .

Since 2005 I've already had laparoscopies and this one will be the last one I hope!

I also had laps before hand and the op is no different to that so you will be used to what happens. It does take a bit longer to come round as they give more anaesthetic as longer op. i was a bit tearful for a few days as i came to terms that it had gone butnonce that i gave myself a good talking too i was ok. I had a few hot flushes but hrt has stopped that. I have had cervix taken too which is meant to affect sexual feeling but it's all the same as before so I guess I'm lucky that it hasn't made any difference at all. Hrt takes a while to get right and is all down to individual reaction and preferences. Get through op first tho and get that sorted later.
