Wendy,
I know this is an old post but did you finally recovered from your tiredness an pain after gal removal.
I have done laproscopic surgery four weeks ago and I still feel very tired sometimes. I occationally have pain in my back too but I notice that pain is coming whenever I eat meat even fish specially if it is fried. I recommend boiling meat rather than using cooking oil. Generally a day which I dont eat meat at all I dont feel any pain.

hello everyone! i too am suffering from crippling fatigue. I haven’t really been able to make it through a day. I have a five-year-old and a very busy work schedule. It has been difficult to say the least. I work from home and so I just shut everything down in the middle of the day and sleep for a few hours. I don’t feel particularly refreshed either afterwards! Just enough to keep going. I also had a few heavy bouts of nausea this morning right thought maybe I was getting the stomach flu! But it did pass. im a little depressed too, which is really unlike me--also very emitional! i cry at everything. after reading it could last 6 months isnt helping lol. hope everyone is recovering.

Amy,
I feel much better now 6 weeks after surgery, no pain and not much daily fatigue. You need to give it time and dont eat red meat. noodle and shrimp is a good meal if you like to get some protein.
Dont worry too much about it and avoid all fat meals and any kind of cooking oil even olive oil.
good luck

I am 4 days since having gallbladder removed didn't think it was going to be this bad and now I am reading it can take months to feel normal!! Am wondering what is the normal length of time to have a bowel movement still haven't had one and I was a four or more times a day person!! I find I don't want to eat, the food seems to get stuck in my throat so far in four days I have probably eaten two somewhat meals!!!! I don't know if anyone else feels like this but I also feel this should not be a same day surgery you should stay at least over night possibly two or more this is a major surgery and it's like cut out bye its just not right!!! That first night I just wanted to die and I could have used being in hospital!! And I have many other health problems such as diabetes, heart thyroid, blood pressure have a pacemaker/defib so I feel someone with other major health concerns really could use hospital stay to make sure everything is good but REALLY everyone shoul d. Have at least over night!!! I was at hospital total before and after for 4 hours not enough time!!!

Hi Sue,
I'm sorry you've had a rough go of it. everyone is different in healing. Some come away from the surgery with no problem. i've had family members that had no problems after. I had my gallbladder taken out 7 months ago at the end of September of last year, and i'm still not healed. It's basically my worse nightmare these last 7 months. I was in the hospital for 3 days after my surgery cause i had extreme nausea and my heart rate was high, it would go into the 130s. Still does go high sometimes.
My GI is looking at me having a condition called Gastroparesis. It means partial paralayzsis of the stomach. Basically food just sits in my stomach cause my stomach is really slow to digest. i have constant nausea, fatgiue, vomiting, loss of appetite, stomachaches after i eat, insomnia, etc... I have to have more testing done. Appearitly it's common to get it after gallbladder surgery. Some are temporary and only last months, some never get rid of it. There's no cure.
I'm not trying to scare you, I'm just telling you what i went through to prepare you in case you have a longer time healing. i was told by my surgeon that i would wake up and all my problems would be gone, and i was taken by surprise when they weren't, it actually seemed worse.
Hopefully you will heal soon. I don't know if you pray or believe in God, but I pray everyday for my miracle to be healed so I can be normal again. I will pray for you also.

HI sue, i totally agree with you. i think at the minimum we should not be released from our doctor until we are fully better! im 5 weeks post op and landed in Er last night with cellulitis in my belly button incision and an umbilical hernia there too. ive been in pain since my surgery bit was ignored by my surgeon. now i have to deal with this infection and a subsequent procedure for the hernia. i kept telling my surgeon something was not right!!! i sure hope they can treat your condition/symptoms. ive had horrible reflux since surgery. hopefully this will be behind us sooner than later!!!!!

Sounds like your surgeon is an ass my surgeon is very good but they all take it so casually like listen this is my body you are cutting into so if I feel scared thats my right!!! And should definitely be at least an overnight stay!!!!! Will be sending prayers for a quicker recovery!!!!

i just recently got my gallbladder removed. i thought it was weird that after 2 weeks i was still this tired. surgeon told me nothing. no dietary instructions, no pain management, how to clean my incisions, nothing. I didn't even see him. also, i thought this surgery required 4 incisions i only got 3. i don't know if it makes a difference but i thought it was weird. thing was i was supposed to get surgery on the 17th but got pancreatitis, we waited till it got better and early on the 20th i got surgery. so now i don't know if the pain i feel is from the surgery or pancreatitis. i feel pain on all sides. also have lupus, so I'm freaking out if I'm having a flare up. i see my GP on Wednesday hopefully i find out whats up. BTW in 36. sorry for barging in just had to rant to

I had my gallbladder removed last Wed and still have some pain and exhausted. I'm going back to work tomorrow and I hope I don't fall asleep. I've had several surgeries in the past and I'm now 50 so I thought my age had to do with it. I see the surgeon next Mon for my follow up so I'll see what he has to say about me being tired all the time. I also get winded, taking a shower seems like a chore.

I had my surgery in late April felt so bad my follow up was suppose to be two weeks later they had no appointment till 3 weeks later and during that time I felt horrible every day!!!! Went for appt. And had to be transported to hospital by ambulance right from office was admitted for 8 days with infection in wall of stomach was in isolation because of the type of infection it was and sent home with pic line for 15 days of IV antibiotics!!! I first off feel this surgery shouldn't be same day surgery!!! Should at least stay overnight but REALLY need like 2-5 day stay if I hadn't been sent home same day they might have caught the infection before it got so bad!!! I was in less time for Gallbladder removal than I was in for recent cataract surgery!!! Something wrong wirh this pucture!!!! Soon they will give us directions and the tools to have at home surgery we do ourselves!!!! Its been over 3 months still very tired and still very bad bowel movement problems!!!! Good luck to anyone who has had this or is having this done!!! My advice tell them you feel at least a 3 day hospital stay is needed DO NOT DO same day surgery!!!

Hi Wendy,
I just had my gallbladder removed last week. I was admitted into the hospital on a Sunday and had the surgery on Tues. I was released on Wed. 10 days later I went to my post op exam. I've been nauseous and extremely tired. Unfortunately I didn't see the surgeon on that visit because he was so busy. I didn't meet the surgeon until 5 minutes before I went in for the surgery and haven't seen him since. You would think that the surgeon would at the very least talk to you to see how you're feeling. The nurse practitioner examined me and was told to make another appointment the following week to see if the fatigue and the nausea had gotten better. It's only been two weeks since the surgery but except for the pain which has gotten better, there's no change. I have diarrhea every morning and eat very little during the day. This has been the worst experience I have ever had. I've had 8 surgeries over the last 10 years for all different issues ( 2 total knee replacements, 3 rotator- cuff and the list goes on ) and as far as this one I can only say that this was the most unprofessional and disappointing I have ever had. I will be seeing my GI doctor this week, thank God. He is one of the hand full of doctors that I really trust. It seems like the whole healthcare system has gotten very impersonal. I don't want to ever have another experience like this. Most doctors are not as compassionate as they should be. Just follow up on the surgeries that you do to see if you're doing ok. At least from the nurses. I had the most awesome nurses in the hospital. If it wasn't for them I would have walked out before all this nonsense started. I hope the nausea and fatigue subsides otherwise I really don't know what to do. I hope you're doing well and want you to know you're not alone.
