I can't take it anymore!! Perimenopause horrible..HELP!

Posted , 336 users are following.

I am 48 years old, stay at home mom with two children.  They are in school, I try to keep myself very busy.  I have had OCD and anxiety, I have been fighting it for years. But, now the Perimenopause is really terrible..depressed, mood swings, tension headaches, dry and itchy skin.

I have spoken to my sisters who are all past Menopause, they tell me their stories but I just cannot believe that hormones can cause all this havock.  I do not feel myself at all, my PMS is worse and the week of my period I actually feel like I have a disease and I am dying.  Feel like I am going crazy!! Please tell me if this is normal to feel this way at this time, because I am obsessing and cannot get my mind off of it.  Need Help!!!!

Ok so new symptom...I've been going through peri for about 5yrs now and have/had just about every symptom but this is new and I'm curious if anyone has experienced it..? Had my period about 2wks ago (it's still pretty regular) but have had very mild cramping for the last few days that feels like when my period would be coming on (about a day or two prior before becoming the pains from hell) but it isn't and I'm not due. No spotting or anything just the mild cramping that will go into my hip area, around back and thighs-it doesn't feel different than pre-period. If I'm busy I don't even notice it-it's just when I'm quiet-probably just me focusing on it. I'm not bloated or anything...just keep expecting to find my period starting every time I go to the bathroom. Anyone? So over this!

    Hi Jennifer

I am 50 years old and sure I am in perimenopause. My doctor was useless and did not help me at all. I have had the following symptoms.

    Tension headaches

    Tingly head

    Itchy skin

Feel like life is dull and a chore

Feel like I have a terrible disease

    Irritation

    Mood swings

    Dry skin

The list goes on. One minute I'm ok and the next I could cry or could kill someone. My partner luckily is very supportive even though she gets the brunt of everything and must feel awful that i find life so dull and boring. I feel I have nothing to look forward to.

I am trying St Johns Wort to see if that works. I've tried menopause fx, b6, red clover, magnesium and multivitamins. Any other suggestions from anyone would be great. If I have this for months I feel I will go mad like

Be careful with St Johns wort was bad reviews about this some years back making people worse. Black cohosh in dose of 20-40 mgs is good, can get on @ or eb. Stuff in health shops too low dose. Agnus castus good to. Take 12 hourly at same time, I start to get palpitations and twitchy if late taking. I tried HRT but had headaches that didn't go. If you are getting anxiety or doom feelings Sertraline or Venaflexine from Gp good. It's awful to go through as every new symptom you are not sure if should worry or not. I kept feeling faint and getting chest pain which was v scary, especially when doctors think you are mad. It's hard to think your hormones can cause such chaos in the body.

Think of years ago when we had no knowledge no wonder women were described as hysterical at times.

If can find female Gp they are sometimes better. When you are tired just nap you can't really fight the fatigue.

There are so many people going through this so just chat to others as helps.

    Hi Jennifer

I too have experienced terrible symptoms

    Depression

    Itchy skin

    Rashes

    Tingly head

    Mood swings

    Crying

Feel like I am in another body

    Resent my partner

I was so bad I went to doctor who gave me a low dose of HRT so will see how it goes. Stay strong I feel slightly better. Also take Macca root meant to be very good.

How can we get the medical community to stop being so ignorant and dismissive about this and start being proactive in looking for real solutions and help?

I'm done hearing "yeah, you can experience this for 10+years", "It'll get better", etc.

This perimenopause crap is WAY WAY more than a freaking hot flash!

I could deal with that!  It's all the other #$&* that puts you over the edge.

This is not acceptable and WOULD NOT be remotely acceptable if one of these symptoms were experienced by men for a week, much less possibly 10 years.!

Every day I'm getting to experience new and sometimes crippling symptoms and getting ready to turn 50...yippy.  DONE

Just seen an endocrinologist and she completely dismissed my symptoms because I'm only 31! She thinks I'm crazy and is in complete denial. I have one ovary, and last year was placed on testosterone therapy which was very very foolish thing to do on my doctors part and after discontinuing the testosterone I immediately started having the worst hormonal issues! Hot flashes, rapid heart rate and palpitations, insomnia, intolerance to cold and hot, thinning hair, and on and on and on. This endocrinologist I believed would be my savior and she was a complete dud! There must be something someone can do🙏 I am so frustrated and trying not to cry because it will only trigger a hot flash. You are so right, men could never live with these symptoms😞

I'm 53 and three years with no period and can finally say that I'm feeling more like a human being again than I have in ten years.  I just want to tell everyone that .... IT WILL END.  There is light at the end of the tunnel.  You will feel better once your hormones settle down.  I had every symptom that ever existed and it's all getting so much better.  You just need to ride it out...keep yourself as healthy as possible...eat plenty of fruits and veggies and protein (hormones need protein) and stay away from processed foods and sugary snacks.  Take a good quality multi vitamin, too.

I'm living proof....this will end.  Just hang in there.  smile

Thank you so much for your encouragement because I feel like I have been living in hell for the past 2.5 years. I was a high paying RN and worked in ICU for many years, and all of the sudden my whole world came crushing down. I developed such an intense dizziness and brain fog that I couldn't work any more. I am hopping all day praying that there is an end to it.

I'm also an RN and fed up with my doctors thinking that makes us neurotic about feeling ill. My memory which used to be amazing recalling 28 patients and what was going on is now shocking. Can't remember what did few days ago.

Ive just changed to a much less stressful role which has been good. Have Fibromyalgia so get very fatigued at times but just have to pace myself a lot.

Try some herbal remedies such as black cohosh and Agnus castus as can really help.

      Good luck with it all.

Hello, I am in tears writing this. Reading everyone's kind words truly gives me hope. I am 31 and am premenopausal due to having only one ovary, endometriosis, and my symptoms started after having no libido after my second child after my doctor decided to start me on testosterone therapy. Within one month of stopping the testosterone my symptoms started and they haven't stopped. It's been a year and a miserable one. My doctor won't even cooperate because he fears he shouldn't have started me on the testosterone. I have tried everything with little relief. I cut my caffeine intake, stayed inside, started supplements. Everything. They come and go, for me the worst is the hot flashes, I have hot flashes combined with cold sweats. I instantly get more upset because of how crappy they make me feel. I feel like there is no end and I just want a hysterectomy already. I have an appointment with an endocrinologist next week thank god so hopefully she will be able to help me. I have terrible rapid heart beats when I'm sleeping so I never sleep and these hot flashes are making me feel like my life is over. Is there any supplements I should try? And Why is it that b vitamins help? I thought b vitamins are for energy and to me that seems like they would make your body temp rise? Anyways thank you all for listening and any advice you can give me. I'm barely hanging on here. I'm so happy I found this thread, I had no idea there were so many other women going through this.

Hello there. I am so sorry that you feel so bad. Here's the things I have tried to just make each day a little better.

      1. Just going outside and looking at the trees.

      2. Planting something and watch it grow.

      3. Buying myself flowers.

      4. Chamomile Tea

      5. Focus on breathing the correct way.

      6. Praying

      7. Reading

      8. Eating healthly(when I can eat)

      9. Eating junk food when the mood strikes.

      10. Music,music,music. Not sad music!!!

      11. Taking breaks as often as needed.

      12. Taking a nap when I can.

      13. Self care.

      14. Paint my nails.

      15. watch funny shows.

Trust me sometimes I just get all caught up in feeling like complete crap and I have an anxiety or panic attack. If I can't calm myself down with all these tools I have I take my emergency medication as last resort.  I am not going to say it gets better because I don't know what will happen tomorrow and beyond. I do know that we are not alone in this suffering and we can't be embarrassed or afraid to ask for help when we need it.

Thank you so very much. I try my best to pull myself out of the funk. I try to believe it's mind over matter and that I can and will get through this. It doesn't always work but I have made progress that way. Just going outside in the sunshine definitely helps. It's all about distractions. Thank you for your kind words. It helps tremendously to know I'm not alone. I hope your having a wonderful day💖💖💖

Pitbulllady, I am in this with you. I am 35 and all my crap started 2 years ago when I decided I would come off birth control because I was having some side effects listed in the information leaflet (nothing major just itchy skin, rashes and mild anxiety) ....... within a month of coming off it I had my first panic attack-chest pains the works. It took a long time for me to make the connection to hormones. Exactly a year later just when I got a period it got a lot worse and now 2 years on I am doing ok now that I control my anxiety but man do I cry!!! I now have joint aches and constant flu symptoms, and night sweats at certain times of the month........ I also got diagnosed with a thyroid cyst but they say it's fine. It truly is awful. I feel like I'm a shadow of my former self. Some days are good and others are bad. My mother told me it can last ten years but I don't ever remember her like me. I am thinking of going back on birth control. I don't know yet. I just want you to know that there are others here like you. I hope it gets better.

I love your post!  This is me.  It's weird going from happy to lucky and healthy to having to consciously try and be happy go lucky.  These are the things I do.  When ever I feel a panic attack coming on, I open the Bible say a prayer and start reading.  It always takes me out of panic, it's much cheaper than the ER.  Lol 😆.  Love ??
