I have a swollen and very painful lump on my clit hood, what should I do?

Hi, I've been having a problem for about five days to a week now. I didn't notice in the beginning as I didn't feel or see anything unusual but now I'm in a alot of pain. On the top of clit hood I have a swollen, reddish lump that's gotten bigger during the day yesterday and has been swelling probably everyday. I don't know what it is as I've never had it before, I'm 19 and a virgin so I know it's not an STD/STI. Also, along the left labia I noticed it's really swollen also but it doesn't hurt until it reaches the clit hood. The hood is swollen so badly that I can't see my clit without really stretching, which hurts. My left is primarily the issue side and as of this moment it burns. I can't walk, sit , sleep or move at all without going through a moment of pain first and I can only sleep on my back. PLEASE HELP!!!!

I have experienced this exact thing 4/5 times in about 7/8 years. The most recent was 2 months ago.

I'm not exactly sure what its cause is but its always in the same place on the left side. Swells over 4-5 days and then pops on its own.

I find that a hot as you can handle bath with a flannel pressed on the area will help bring on the "pop" by softening the pus and bringing the lump to a head.

It's such an awful experience and so, so painful, so I figure anything that could help is worth a shot, always worth a call/visit to the Dr too just to be safe.

My problem is that this time, I am not healing. The area which popped is where it has popped every time before so the scar is opening each time. It has been 6-8 weeks now of having this sore wound. Without wanting to pester the GP in this worrying time for all of us, could anyone suggest anything I could do to help it heal?

I'm at home with partner and 3 year old so it is impractical to let it "air".

    Thank you in advance.

hey emilia! id suggest if youre not scared, go the doctors. on my day 4 i also woke up at 4 am and couldnt sleep from the pain. the next day my mom had taken me to the doctor and i had abscess on my clitoris, they popped it and it was so painful since the clit area is the most sensitive, but its better to go and them give you the proper antibiotics and prescription for the infection so it can lower the chances of coming back. im still in the process of healing so im just hoping it wont come back, it still feels a little hard but there is no more pain and its definitely gone down.

The first time I had this was over 20 years ago (I had it twice back then). So when it came back two decades later I expected to see so much more information on it. I have since had it another 3 times (this time being my third) and am so grateful to finally see this forum! The amount of Doctors that have looked at me and scratched their heads has left me feeling lonely and with a sense of despair. I have looked into the periclitoral abscess as mentioned by martha51247 and it is the closest I can see that looks like what I have. This gives me some sense of relief that at least it has a name.

My question to the group is that are the antibiotics helping? My experience says they are not and I am unsure I want to continue to take antibiotics "just in case" they might help. Especially with the frequency that I seem to be getting this.

Thank you to all that have posted on here. I am so sorry that everyone is going/gone through this, but so glad to have found the forum.

    Hi everyone

Firstly thank you everyone who has contributed here, it’s helpful to read through it all and feel a sense of care & community!

I’m 35yo, reasonably healthy and look after myself. Could do with more sleep but overall eat well & keep fit. All the symptoms i'm reading in this thread seem to be what i'm also experiencing - itching, swollen red bulge/cyst? under clit hood slightly to the left, clit super sensitive/painful to touch etc, mild sting when peeing. I’ve attached a pic/video - is this looking similar to what you all are experiencing?

My progression to this point was (and im unsure if these things are at all related).. stupidly went hard cycling without padded shorts after sometime off (felt very raw & sore on the nonoo), then separately got prescribed antibiotics for an infected ear piercing (took them irregularly on and off but ended up completing cycle), started eating some sugary/chocolate/cake foods (after months and months of nothing unhealthy), then got very itchy thrush which after 2ish weeks (and 2 pills + external cream + probiotics) didn't seem to fully clear, and finally developed swollen lymph glands/mild sore throat the other day. And then next day woke up with the slightest touch of my undies against my clitoris causing extreme sensation / pain.

During onset of thrush I went to the Dr, did all my bloods/std checks/pee test/swab/everything.. all came back clear & healthy, except for low iron, potential mild thyroid issue developing and thrush. At this point I also had some very very dull pain on left side of lower abdomen (ovaries?). Not sure if it’s from strength training, but didn’t feel quite right.

Treated the thrush (twice) but the itching kept coming and going never really disappearing, the cream felt super painful/burny on initial application and then provided some relief (weird!) .. and here we are now, still with itching and this beautiful cyst, or whatever it is!! The very dull lower abdomen/pelvic feels have also never stopped coming and going. Oh, and as a literal cherry on top, my period started the following day too.

Oh the joys of being female 😃

For the record, I think I’ve had this bulging clit issue once before, off memory it subsided on its own after a few days. I’m hoping this will be the same, but if I don’t touch the overly sensitive & painful clit bludge it’s the itching and general feeling of discomfort that is causing most qualm.

I’m finding Drs, esp GPs are pretty mainstream and not overly aware or helpful. But I will go back for another visit and redo bloods/swabs etc just to be sure next week. Stay tuned.

I had one of these cysts about 2 month ago and it was painful to the point where i couldnt sleep or walk. long story short the cyst popped and i was so relieved and also then got some antibiotics to clear up any infection. All has been fine until recently it appeared to begin filling back up again although it isnt as big as last and does not hurt nearly as much . i think the reason it could be filling back up is because the opening from where it popped the last time is still there. the only way i can think to describe it is it looking like a hole in the skin . im assuming that this is why it is filling up again and im hoping that the hole will heal up. has anybody else had this issue.

I have had this since last May 2020 and it is now March 2021. Been through two courses of the same antibiotics which did nothing and was referred to a gyno for inspection and now I am getting surgery so it will be removed. Doctor said it is a bunch of infected nerves (or perhaps an infected ingrown hair though I don't believe hair grows in that area). This lump sits under the skin and when it is aggravated swells up with infection which is around twice a month for me. She said there's nothing I could do to prevent it but I have been doing sitz baths, hot/warm flannels etc which helps it to drain when it swells up. Absolutely terrified to get surgery and I hope it works so this doesn't come back again!!

I'm sorry about the frequency that you are getting this. Can you tell me what antibiotics they have prescribed you? What they have diagnosed it? And what the procedure is you are having done? Is it a marsupialisation? I'm just curious as to what treatment you are getting. I'm about to get it again for the second time in two months and not that keen to go on antibiotics again.

Thank you all so much for your courageous accounts. I am 42, healthy and athletic. I found a hard lump the size of a pea on the left side of my clytoris hood, about an inch away from my clyt. It is so scary, especially because it's so damn hard, not painful. I feel a faint sensation, and if feels a little itchy when wearing yoga pants, but just slightly. Thank you all for sharing your accounts. It's helped me reach a little bit of mental clarity. I'm attempting to make an appointment and will keep you posted with any developments.

    PLEASE READ!

i have been a Patient at SickKids in Canada for 7 years due to clitoral pain. At first they found a hair wrapped around my clit preventing blood flow. I am unsure how long it had been there as I was only 11 when it was discovered and I thought all girls had pain like I did. After the removal of the hair, the severity of the pain decreased but it did not go away. I tried different pain medications (none worked) and even went to physio therapy every week (painful but helped desensitize the nerves). After two years i noticed that the increased clit pain was associated with the same white bump you have. I would book an appointment when i was having a flare up but often it came out of skin before doctors could look at it. Finally, I realized it usually occurred a week before i began my period and was able to submit a sample to be sent for analysis!!! Results said there was no bacteria present in the culture, nothing to worry about. Doctors assumed it was pimple like cyst caused by hormones, kind of like acne on cheeks or back of arms. Originally I was in soo much pain i would remove them myself by scratching the skin with tweezers until a little white circular bulb pertuded out and I could pluck it out. There have been small cavities left in the skin after the removal. This whole process was frowned upon by my doctors so i resorted to blasting my clitorious with high powered shower head every day i felt pain until the heat and the water helped it out naturally (highly recommend). It takes longer for the bump to pop naturally but taking hot baths wasnt effective for me as the high pressure water was. Go with a pressure you can handle, dont rip skin off.

To this day, I still suffering from clitoral pain - over 17years now. After the age of 23 ,my periods became regular, I can became better cope.

**On a side note: I found weed to help tremendously with the pain and often made me forget how badly it hurts to sit down. This realization was a secret one i found out at age 17 - and kept hidden as i felt shame from using ' 'street drugs'. The real downside to weed was that i developed a chromic addiction for over 10 years and only now managed to stay 60 days sober as of today.

As an adult Ive learned to push through the pain and never let anything stop me. It is a emotionally exhausting struggle that has drained me of joy some years more than others, but, if you keep clean, keep touching and do water therapy at home with a high powered shower head you will notice you clit over the years will desensitize. Find things that bring you relief - for me i never wear underwear! if you hurt, remember to breathe through it. If you can lay on your back, take an advil, or use gravol to help you sleep through the pain at night. Know that eventually nerve endings get weaker with repeat exposure and you will be able to do more without suffering. I can now drive road trips without tears in my eyes. i have found a life that isnt controlled by my condition. Keep your mind open and dont get trapped in the thinking that things will never change. Its hard work and a lot of tears but you have to fight ever day to become a resilient warrior who creates a quality life worth living.

Before i read this post I thought i was the only one suffering like this. Thank for you from the bottom of my heart for sharing and I want to send positivity and strength your way.

This exact same thing happened to me. A couple days ago I felt sharp pains near my clitoral area whenever I sat a certain way or wiped the area. I discovered that there was a bump there, as big as a small grape, and I immediately started to worry. The google searches I did told me it was a type of cancer, but then I found this page that fit my problem. It grew a little but more over two days before popping while I was going to the restroom. Puss and eventually blood came out. If you have this problem just wait it out. The more pain it creates the nearer it is to popping. Make sure to push the extra puss out. Dont freak out, just give it time 😃

I get these almost monthly seems to be since I stopped taking birth control and got my tubes removed. I am not sure if it's hormone related or not. Mine seem to be in my labia minora, mostly thr left side. I currently have had one for over a week. it has popped 3-4 times. sometimes puss, sometimes blood/puss and sometimes just blood. last time I mentioned it to my Dr but didn't have one at the time for her to see.

I used a disinfected, leather sewing needle (which cuts the skin), punctured the skin about 3/16" deep, removed the needle , squeezed the surrounding tissue using moderate pressure to successfully drain one I had in the past. I wouldn't recommend doing this more than once or twice, in the same session, and you'll definitely want to wash the site VERY well after doing this .
