I'm 26 and just had a marsupilation of bartholin cyst six days ago. I was not at all prepared for how it would look afterwards and have been in a lot of discomfort since!! I've also been somewhat concerned that the area is very bruised and feels hard, but perhaps after only a week this is normal whilst the area is healing. I would have hoped to have had a little more information from the hospital as this was limited and i guess i felt unprepared for afterward the op. Anyways, i'm hoping it heals nicely and that i have no more reoccurrences – fingers crossed. Furthermore i was told by my surgeon that Marsupilation is meant to be the best procedure – whether others agree would be interesting to know…
Secondly i have to say that although I think this website is useful to share information I guess as a new suffer myself it would have been nice to see more positive feedback and success stories because after reading all the comments I was quite horrified at the reoccurrences and left doubting whether I should have left well alone as opposed to having surgical treatment!!
I would be grateful to hear if anyone has any marsupilation success stories...
:D

My experience with my cyst hasn't been as bad as others since it never got infected (aka abcess). BUT I did have an experience many don't have and I wanted to share because I couldn't find anyone with my issue. Sometimes my cyst would rupture internally. This means that whatever was inside the cyst would flood into my labia which was very painful and soooo weird and made my labias look really strange since one was substantially bigger than the other. This happened twice (I've had the cyst about 7 times) and after two weeks it would just go back to normal on its own but never drain out of me.
After doing the word catheter and it recurring two months later I decided I needed to do the marsup and WOW I wish I had done this long ago. My doctor admitted this procedure is her specialty and I recommend that if you go this route you need to choose a doctor who really understands this. It's worth it to pay extra to make sure you take care of this correctly. She did it under local so I wasn't put under. It was trippy to be awake through the procedure but once the local set in and she got to work, it was a breeze (just a little uncomfortable at times). She was really thorough in completely cleaning and drying out the area. She did ten stitches and had me come back 5 days later for removal. I was afraid this would be too soon but I had traveled to her to get this done and had no choice. The first day was fine. That evening the dicomfort set in a little but after the tylenol she gave me I was completely fine. The next day I felt fine. I knew the stiches were there and would sometimes feel a dull pain but nothing to worry about. By the third day I was almost unaware the procedure ever happened. A month later I can honestly say this is the best thing I've chosen to do for my health and well being. I just wanted to add a positive post since they're few and far between. Women should know this can be done without pain and full recouperation is possible. Good luck.

Update on my previous rant: I went in for the second marsipulation.. the surgeon’s intent was to make a bigger hole and leave packing in for longer. I am over the moon to let you ladies know that since this (touch wood) it has gone :-) size of hole is slightly panic inducing….but it’s location means it is well hidden so I'm not overly fussed about that. Additionally, this second time round, I expressed in advance how incredibly painful I found the experience the first time round and was consequently prescribed stronger painkillers (tramadol instead of codeine) which made a massive difference to the experience.. as did the fact that the lovely folk at the hospital gave me Morphine to wake up to. It was amazing how I couldn't have cared if I'd needed to. Granted the pain began to register once the morphine wore off (sad times, I tried to get more but I think they could tell I’d become a little to fond of it) but I was able to keep the intense pain at bay by safely taking their combination of strong painkillers so this second time round was positively delightful vs the first experience.. Which is obviously greatly helped by the fact that the f*cker (BS) has finally gone. All in all, I recommend the procedure and am hoping to god, on a daily basis, that this is the end of it all. One tip though – If you go through this on these meds, be mindful that the painkillers can induce constipation and lets face it, that’s the last thing you need after this type of surgery!!
If any has any questions or queries please let me know. Good luck to each and every one of you xx

To answer your question, I was told by a doctor that the cyst ruptured internally. After two weeks (on the three occasions this happened) the labia would reduce in size and go back to its orginal size.
I can happily report that the cyst has not come back. Its been a month and the hole, from what I can tell, is small and hopefully wont close.

Ive just had the marsupulisation surgery done. I found a cyst 6 weeks ago and was in excruciating pain but was told I can't have it removed as it wasn't infected. After a course of antibiotics it went away. Again last week the area inflamed and after a week of going to the doctors I had the op done. I stayed overnight and was in a lot of discomfort. I've been home nearly 24hours now and the pain is gettin worse.
I went to the toilet this morning and something fell onto the floor following a lot of blood. It was a hard and 2-3 cm. Black and purple in colour. I am not sure if this is the packing they put inside me after surgery bt considering two nurses had a look with tweezers at the hospital I'm sure they would have found something that big. I rang the hospital and they said not to worry.
Has this happened to anyone else? Is it normal??

After a week the bruising went down and dr said to do sitz baths. I would do 2 a day for about 1hr each. That helped a lot! All the blood collected together into like blood clots and would fall off. The bruise went away and swelling.
Its day9 today all the bruising is gone. The blood clots gone. But idk if because i swole up so much my labias are stretched out. Will this all settle down back to the same regular looking vagina? My lips are cut and kinda hanging now. Idk if im speaking too soon. But im doing my sitz bath and feel good. Dont really need pain killers. I can pee normal. Walk normal. I go back to the doctor on day 15. So lets see what dr says! Crossing fingers all the skin falls back into place from the swelling. Good luck girls!
