I need success stories please!

Posted , 24 users are following.

I was just diagnosed with blepharitis in July and feel as if my life is over. I'm so depressed that it's incurable. What makes it worse is that the opthalmologist acted as if it was no big deal - describing it as dandruff of the eyelids with a simple remedy - baby shampoo.

Here I sit, a month later with the same symptoms. Haven't worn contacts. Haven't worn makeup. And for a 50 year old woman I would love to wear both again.

I did some research on my own and all I found was misery. Chronic cases in which no one ever improved. Symptoms lasting years. I feel as if life as I know it is over. It's affecting my family life as well. My husband doesn't get it. He thinks it's just an eye irritation and I should get on with it.

If I didn't have kids to raise....

Please no more horror stories. I've seen them.

I need to hear of people who live with blepharitis who have occasional flare ups but not constant symptoms.

Please!

    Hi all,

I think the cause and triggars of the dreaded Bleph are very much an individual thing. I know what triggered mine, for others it could be down to bad allergies , in particular at certain times of year. In my case , not only did my eyes become severely dry but every damn gland in my body and when I attended a Naturopath it was one of the first things she identified when she rigged me up to her detector. Before I ever encountered eye probs I could never take anti-histamines because they would give dry me up something fierce, I wont bore ye with the details ! but I think for us all air with caution when tryn the different things. Im delighted to hear something as simple as an anti-histamine tab worked for one person but as I say that would certainly add to my woes...Im still on doxy day 10 so I will keep all posted if they do make a difference. Thanks for all the info from everyone on here, please keep posting...

I suspect mine might also be hormonal? I turned 50 last month. Never had a problem with my eyes prior. Wore contacts for 30 years, eye makeup etc. no problems.

All of a sudden, it came out of nowhere -

Mine was triggered by having a makeover with Clinique. By the next day it had kicked off. Thanks everyone for your posts they do help, even those treatments that fail for some...they work for others and I can just add the info to my list.

My body has a problem with dryness also, snd dry mouth at night so bad that it waes me up. My blef started while making my own detergent. I was alergig to the ingedrients.

Ladies around your age often seem to suddenly have this problem Gavinium.    As you can see from all the answers it could be caused by a combination of factors and you have to find out the best treatment for yourself. Often takes a long time to find the one that suits you best,so be prepared to try 101 different things before you are happy with the results.   Once you find it,you will find its a normal part of the daily routine.    Try each treatment for at least a week before you decide if it is the right one for you,and be prepared to try lots of 'over the counter' products as well.  There is no simple answer that fits all cases.

Mine too. One morning i woke up and my eyes had changed.

Well said. There are so many factors that seem to play into the triggers, treatment, and successful management of Bleph. This site has been the most helpful and informative source of information because so many people take the time to share their history and all the treatment options they have tried. I think we all know more about to successfully treat this then ANY of the doctors we have collectively worked with.

Even though my Opthalmologist has been attentive and has prescibed medicatins that have helped, it has been the information I gleaned from this site that has made all the difference.

Thank you to each and every one of you for taking the time to share.

    Hi Gav

well we are same age group so....mine started following accident with hair dye but consultant is very adamant that its hormonal and the hair dye incident either played a minimal or a coincidental role in the situation. The consultant in question would be rated as the Top man in this country ....A freind of mine reminded me of the fact that Id bad acne as a teenager and at the time it was all hormone related and also of other hormonal issues Ive had even before the Perrimenopause , I suppose Menop. like anything else is an individual experience...I dont know of any of my peers who have encountered this problem though...Do keep in touch...

I think mine is hormonal, plus i hadnt been removing eye make up before bed. Xx

I'm a bit mystified as to why my replies about cetrazine, and blephagel, which worked absolute miracles for my blepharitis are being completely ignored by you Gavinium as some days up to three on the trot the condition is so dormant I do not even need the gel, have you No response?

  • Posted

I'm opting out of posting on this thread as my very sound I feel advice on cetrazine is either being sullied or ignored.

Sorry, Fiona. New to patient website so not sure how responding to individual posters applied. I appreciate your suggestion. I have a second opinion on 8/25 in which I plan to bring up the possibility of allergies also. Will ask about that. Thank you. All the best.

And I think Blephagel is similar to Ocusoft Lid Scrub Plus?
    • Posted

No worries, technology can be a nightmare, can't it.? Blephagel is a gel that comes in a tube and you just put generous blob on fingers and rub into eyelid, its incredibly soothing but I've found the cetrazine allow me to go up to several days without needing to use it sometimes hope this helps.

I felt the same way two mo ths ago and have been reading

Everything I can find online ever since. Today, for the first time

I feel almost normal though I am not sure to what exactly I should

    attribute this change.

So, I will tell you what I've been doing for the last few weeks.I

started to use Azasite two weeks ago. This is prescribed as an

eye drop but my opthalmologist told me to rub a drop along my

eyelids with eyes closed after svrubbing and using warm

compress in the mornings and again at night. I did this three

times a day the first ten days or so, twice a day for the last two

    days.

I bought a bought a Dry Eye Moist Heat Compress and have

used it twice a day for two days. I ought Prim Rose Oil caps

and have been taking two a day, along with one each

flaxseed Oil and Omega3, after I read about hormone imbalance

and bleph. Ive only been taking them for ten days or so, so I'm

not sure how much of a difference it's made.

I scrub my lids top and bottom with a Qtip soaked in a

warm quarter cup of water with two drops of tea tree oil after

applying the heated eye mask or warm wetcompresses.

I leave it on, though some wash their eyes after ten minutes

with lots of tepid water. I also soak a cotton ball in this solution,

Squeeze out exss and wipe around the perimiter of my eyes and

my eyebrows. This to kill demodex mites, which we all have but

Bleph sufferers often have ten times as . Many.

In the beginni g I used Refresh or Systane eye drops constantly

trying to get relief from the gritty, burning, even painful sensations.

Its only been two months but feels like six.

Another important step I took was to buy a face wash wit 2%

Salicylic acid to wSh my fave morning and night. Again, I read

it kills the mites. I also use an antibacterial soap in the shower

every morning as I've read the mites travel all over your body

at night. It sounds disgusting, I know, but there's no getting

around it...our bodies are increasingly fertile ground for these

creaatures as we age. You are 50, I'm 67, so maybe its hit me

even harder.I'm suddenly scratching like never before, my head,

my neck, even my eyebrows. I know its psychosomatic , but

I cant seem to help myself.

MOST IMPORTANT thing I've done this week is starting to

use a dandruff shampoo. I bought two...one with tar as the

active ingredient, one with salicylic acid as the active ingredient.

I combine a bit of each onto my hair, s rub my scalp and allow

the foam to wash o er and lay on my closed eyes and eyebrows

for a couple minutes before rinsing. Again, I read about tar being

an important factor in eradicating excess demodex. I'm leaning

towards the shampoo combo as making tbe difference in

how much better I'm feeling, inuding using eye drops hardly at

all the last two days. ALSO,chane your pillow cases every day

and wash your bedding often. Add ten drops of tea tree oil in your

liquid detergent before pouring it into the machine.

I hope some of this helps. Keep reading, keep clean. Keep trying

to get a handle on this.

      Thank you, Agnes.

I was thinking if I should mention Demodex to the eye doctor next week. Wonder if they can test for that.

Good Nighr Nurse, I think I'd rather have the Blelfharitis!

      Dena,

You cracked me up.....I needed a good laugh....have a great day!!!

    • Posted

Its one of the causes of bleph, any of us could have it.
    • Posted

Yes, that is true....I just got 3 hours sleep last night and after reading that long list of things to do, Dena's remark made me laugh....I really needed a laugh this morning......but I appreciate Agnes sharing her protocol with us....Thank you Agnes!!  Have a great day, Lee

    • Posted

You too Dawn. Hopefully youll get some rest tonight. My eye issues affect my sleep. Dont know if thats why you didnt sleep well. Xx
    • Posted

Thank you, Lee.....it was my 85 year old Mother coughing all night...!

I called my eye care practice to ask if they are equipped to

tezt for demodex. They are not. Next I'm going to fi d a dermotologist who

Can do it...will ask before I go. Some sort of super microscope is needed.

I have ordered tea tree oil body wSh, tea tree oil moizturizing cream to use on my face and neck, and teatree oil face wipes, which are pi

Popular for acne because the kill bacteria...including excessive mites.

The company has very reasonable prices and is curr running a sale.

If I cannot get a definitive diagnosis of demodex folliculorum at least it won't hurt to take these precautions as tea tree oil is a natural oil.

      Good luck.

Guess there is a product called cliredex that is supposed to be very good.

I had to laugh as well !!  Life is too short cheesygrin  In my case, coal tar shampoo (Capasal) for seborrheic dermatitis provided the answer when used daily in the shower, taking good care to thoroughly wash the eyelashes.

      That is great David,

My answer was Manuka Honey #20....two eye doctors have confirmed my blepharitis is gone.....that was over a year ago!
