Irritating , annoying comments about chronic pain .

Don’t you hate it when the able-bodied try to encourage you with cliches that no longer apply to chronic pain patients?
The one that irritates me most is, “If you can dream it, you can do it!”. or, "the power of positive thinking" ... Here's one of my favorites
just keep moving and be "Mindful" of your tolerances.
It makes me want to reply, “Really? I’m dreaming that you would feel my pain”.
What at are some of the irritating response you receive from those who do not suffer from chronic pain? And what do you tell them?

ya all must have been injected by the physician at the bottom of the class!!
Yes, you will ferl pressure because they are adding fluid to an already sore area.
But, the injections should be a mix of slow acting steroid and fast acting steroid.
After inject, rest that area for 10 days...very light activity...no matter how good you may feel, rest is imperative to protect the joint during the first ten days.
I have sat still as my TMJs have nern injected multiple times, knees, fingers...dont correctly, with the proper mix of steroid, injections are incredible.
Indi, injection your shoulder correctly, just may allow you to lift your arms and work again overhead.

I have had injections from several different docs. Some help, for a few days until the numbing agent wears off others just hurt and don't last at all. I guess everyone is different.
Its good to hear how well your injection went. I think it depends on how well trained the injector is being the injectee under most cases has not been helpful. Especially for arthritis! It helped a bit not for long. It's like when the dentist gives an injection for a root canal.... I'd rather have laughing gas...well u know the drill! 😃

I always have a mix of a slow acting steroid and a fast acting steroid.
I also abide by the admonishment to rest the joint for ten days.
Sorry you have had an awful experience.

Hi Gloria, Indi, CtKathleen, ihavevoknickname,
Got all theses tests coming up next week. Mammogram, ekg, bone density , blood tests and narrow eye glaucoma. Teeth all need to be checked out . Gotta have a clean bill of health for the THR revision scheduled next month.
Mr Hope decided he will send me some chocolate and flowers ever week in convalesce rehab. Chocolate always cures everything for me. And rehab hospitals are so dull needs color so It will be tropical flowers from Hawaii in bright bold colors .
many hugs and many blessing sent your way for a good pain free day for everyone. And lots of sunshine , no rain! I can order up a good sunny day once in awhile .
Warm beaches await Gloria in a few weeks in Australia. Boy I'd rather be packed in her suitcase than where I'm going.
Indigood I know you have been thru revision and still having issues. I hope you can get things worked out. So many errors in THR and not much info about it. I hope you have a great day.
Judith take care and get a stylus pen to type when you can . Amazon has them . Honestly they are cheap and get a dozen. I'm always loosing mine.
CtKathleen how are you doin? Hope where you are the sun is shinning.
everyone have a great painfee full of love and peace today.
🌞😀

I sure wish I could fit in that polka dot bikini! Tho I'd gladly settle for the warm beaches of Australia!
I'm in New England. It hasn't snowed yet. It looks like winter is coming late this year as I still have leaves falling.
I have an obnoxious 6 month old hound mix who needs to go out, no matter how tired, sore or cranky I am! (It's hard to believe I thought a puppy forcing me to get out was a good idea!). It's just too cold to play outside at 6am! (I secretly wish I'd rescued an independent kitty
Instead.)
I'm so sorry you are facing so many tests in one week. I don't have that much energy to tackle so much in one week. Tomorrow it's back to work (part time). Then 2 Dr appointments. 1st with the weight doctor (I've been bad) and 2nd with psychiatrist for seratonin/pain management. The last time I saw the psych dr he went on and on about the very successful people he knows with "real pain", then basically told me to go to therapy to accomplish a stronger mind since he thinks chronic pain is a "mind over matter" deal! Needless to say, I am NOT looking forward to seeing him.
I hope to check in soon. Tonight I want to hide under the covers as I know this week will kick my you-know-what as other weeks do.
btw, no margueritas for me. I stopped drinking in '94 when it stopped being happy juice. With my meds, I'd probably be a basket case with just a glass of wine!
Take care and be good to yourselves!

Hi CtKathleen,
sounds like you have cold weather coming next week. So bundle up get those heat packs out and batten down the hatches.
its been very cold windy rainy here in the northwest. I feel like I would love to fly off to Hawaii if I wasn't stuck with all this boring testing pre-op stuff.
then I wouldn't care how I looked in my pink polka dot bikini 👙 sunning on a warm beach than stuck in the hospital getting ready for surgery jan 3,
i love puppy kisses they are such a bundle of joy and energy.🐶🐶🐶
Having a puppy is a lot of work training cleaning and on the upside lots of hugs and giggles too!
the therapist you describe sounds like some misfit from the hippie era. Oh yeah all my pain is in my head. Mmmm where have I heard that one before!
Oh yeah gallbladder attacks. Gallstones in my bile duct. I was even told by a doc who said the same thing and to read a book called I'm ok your ok.
When does the insults end and good health care begin. Today you have to be your own health advocate and learn as mich as you can to ask the right questions for treatment.
I am am sorry that any doc would recommend a therapist from the 70's era.
I make virgin Margaritas anyway I don't drink at all , can't stand alcohol taste. But I'll share some red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting home made with you! Yumm!
many blessings starting back to work. Take it slow and easy!🤓
Hopexxxxx

I thought only Colorado Springs weather was hookie...one more 80 degree day and I am moving to the south pole! Bring on the snow!
Do not teach the pupoy to pee outside...it will bit you you kniw where...spent miney to but Ziggy a Piddle Place...got extra chemicals and the spray with visions of Ziggy lifting his wee leg in the bathroom on the Piddle Place when the north wind roared and raged.
Ziggy lays down on the nice green grass... and sleeps! He rolls those big brown eyes and says, momma, you said, no pee in the house!
So I went to PetSmart and explained the situstion and left with a bottle of some stuff you spray where you want them to pee...and Ziggy lays down!!!

Thanks Judith.....so looking forward to it....it will be good to get away from all this rain...it's pouring right now..again...and huge storms last night. Will do a quick check round the village to see if everyone is OK....many of these villagers live in huts not even suitable for a cow to live in. Wish I could do more to help them. Big hugs to you, and a Happy and Peaceful Christmas. Lots of love too...G

You can have the snow (even though we need it for spring melt) and anything below 60. I'm in NJ and the weather has playing ping pong. We've been getting much needed rain, however my skeleton is extremly upset about the whole ordeal. lol
