Is this normal for diverticulitis?

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum but have been reading through other people's posts. I've been suffering with mild diverticulitis for over 2 months. Just taking another course of antibiotics and finally the pains have near enough gone but now i'm starting to have these hot flushes, tiredness and light headed every so often in the day. Is this a normal part of recovery or infection? I feel a little anxious with it so, any good advice would be great!

Hi Mandy, make sure they don't bung you up cos that will cause more problems....the same with pain killers. Yes I feel very down I think it's because we can't eat what we like anymore and it puts you off eating all together. I went to a dietician but to be honest she suggested to introduce one thing at a time but when I did it kicked things off so I eat the things I know I'm okay with with the odd one little treat now and again (once a month).
It's work that's the problem I'm always on sickness reveiw but hey ho!
I also think stress brings it on starts with shivers, headaches, swelling and pain but sometimes it goes overnight so don't worry if you think your gonna have diverticulitis it may just ease off. I usually have two or three bouts a year but always have the pain but shareable.
It's all about staying as positive as you can drink lots of water and try to exercise daily if possible, plenty of rest tassel, but do try de cafe because that made a huge difference to me.
Fingers crossed you get on the mend but I still would see the doctor...always ask for a scan rather than the other option because that can rupture your bowel!
I hope this has helped hun xx

Thank you so much for the chat Vivienne :-) I agree with you about the decaf. I'm ringing the dr tm to say that I'd like some support and advice. I feel that I've been just left to deal with this, and I haven't the faintest idea about what's going on or what to do! Ibe forgotten what my life was like before this because I've been so focused on it for so long.

Thanks Vivienne and everyone for their advice and support :-) just been out for a walk and the supermarket but felt horrible in the shop. I just don't seem to be improving in the way I feel even though the pain is less. It's been weeks and weeks now how long does it go on??

Hi Bri, only paracetamol and antibiotics. The weird thing is I'm starting to get better, the pains less but still tender in my rectum area and coccyx where the abcess is. Still feeling slightly washed out just thinking the sensations in my rectum n stomach are imitating nervousness cuz I can't understand why I'm all of a sudden I'm worried. I've been really ill for months with high infection n never felt worried

Hi Mandy, my divaticular usually kicks off my piles, I did have an op on them a few years ago but it didn't get rid of them so when my dd kicks off it flares up my piles, you need to get the docs cos if you have abscess then it needs checking x

Hi Vivienne, I have an appointment with the specialist 2nd October. He'll ask for another blood test then arrange another CT scan possibly 2 weeks later. Hoping that the antibiotic will shrink the abscess and it will go as they can't drain it because it is to near my spine

Hi Michelle, it's horrible isn't it? I thought I was improving but I feel rotten and completely fed with it now and the lack of support. What type of pain is it in your back? Maybe your infection is creeping back up?

Hi many, I'm also new to DD and find it difficult to live with. I was diagnosed about two months ago after tests and a ct scan. I have no infection however so don't have antibiotics. My consultant has basically diagnosed me and then left me to get on with it. The only info he gave me was to keep a diary so I can work out any triggers, avoid caffeine, do not drink coca cola as it has caffeine in it and avoid seeded bread and fruit which contain seeds. I have this light headedness, stabbing head pains, and am totally exhausted both mentally and physically. I am going to return to my gp as I feel I need more support. I worry when I go out in case I have an 'accident' and if I can't make it its too late. I also have hot flushes and sometimes sweats. I am 62 and have been through the 'change', so I know that's not the reason, but I do have type 2 diabetes and sometimes I think it's easier for everyone to blame that. Hope you feel better soon. Chris.

His Christine :-) sorry to hear you have DD it's horrible and the support is terrible. It's the fact I've been on antibiotics for weeks and weeks and still the infection hasn't gone and it's really getting me down :-(
