Its finally going! - signs of healing

I'm so relieved - I can happily say that my PR is finally clearing up. I've had it for about 8 weeks now. About a week before it started to fade I think it 'peaked' it was intensely itchy and very dry and flaky. A week later the itch had all but gone (except when after a shower) The patches enlarged and flattened and started to fade from the inside of the patch outwards. During this time my skin was very flaky. Within a week the rash had faded down to a tan colour and once the flaking had gone the tan patches were dry looking but flat. The early patches and herald patch have almost completely faded and the patches I got later on are still there but beginning to go.
Its been a horrid 8 weeks but I'm glad that it seems to be going - I'm just praying that its gone for good and will stay away for my wedding next year.
For those of you in the middle of it and feeling miserable - IT WILL GO AWAY! I really felt that i would have it forever but I'm almost normal again now and I'm so relieved! There is hope - hang in there eveyone!

i am fifteen years old, and i was diagnosed with PR, i had it for about 2 1/2 weeks now and i have to say i am falling apart. i just don't feel comfortable in my own skin which is annoying because I love fashion and I love to wear nice clothes and express myself but lately all i been wanting to wear is a hoodie and sweats to cover it up. I don't feel comfortable any more because of PR and it's hard. i just wanna be myself again. Thankfully i bin starting to notice bumps on my neck clearing up and i am so excited. Could my PR go away in less then 6 week? has that happened to anyone before? If you have any answers to my questions please reply to help your girl out, Also dose anyone know things that i can try to clear my bumps?

Hi, it is a great news to hear that there is hope! mine started around mid Sept, now in week 5. feeling like its getting worse, have a big patch on my neck and so many small ones are in my abs and arms. used aloe v oil and oatmeal cream aveeno but so far no change.. interesting that i am in my 40s and the papers show PR as an early adult disease (10-35). Should I try sunbeds? Any suggestions?

hi, i noticed the first spots around Sept. 20, so i think i'm at my 5th-6th week. mine started to fade a few days ago so i was feeling happy and excited but the suddenly, it started itching again and turned red. is that normal? is it possible to have a "fresh outbreak"? or is it a natural part of the healing process?

I am fifty and am suffering, for the third time, with PR. Supposedly less than three percent of the population ever suffer through this more than once and, as you stated, it is typically within the ages of 10 and 35.
It is a long, uncomfortable (physically and mentally ) process. Contagious or not, it truly makes you want to hide from all eyes during the weeks and months it takes to fully recover from this blasted virus.
This current bout, I am only entering the close of Week One, has been the worst so far. The patches are even on my underarms and the crease where hip and thigh meet. There is simply zero relief for me so far.
Best of luck to all other PR sufferers out there!

I have finally found some relief... after so many doctors and dermatologists!!!!! It is not a cure, but is certainly improving the situation radically. It was recommended by a young pharmacy assistant, and I thought "this is just another similar cream to what I have already tried" but it has made it so much more tolerable.
The product is called Dermaid 0.5% cream, by Ego Pharmaceuticals, and contains Hydrocortisone 0.5% w/w, which many other creams I have tried also had in it, however this one seems to actually work!
She said to use it twice a day. I have been doing that, plus adding it whenever I feel itchy as well (quite liberally).
No script required, and not at all expensive, so give it a try, and I hope it provides as much relief to you as it has for me.

Hi there. The patches flatten and fade however it can take months for the coloring of the skin to begin looking normal again. Very few of us have permanent scars from PR (I have had it three times between the ages of 20 and 50). The more melanin you have, the longer it will take for the pigmentation to return to normal. I am moisturizing with shea butter each day but cannot tell you if it is working or not as I am only closing out my first week of this third bout with this horrific virus.

i've had it for about 2 weeks now and it is driving me mad. i've seen on other forums people have used head and shoulders to help clear it up so hopefully that works. it has made me so self conscious i gave it all over my stomach and a few spots on my leg. its still slowly getting worse but hopefully not too much worse now

Thank you for your update.
I developed PR after receiving the Moderna vaccine shot #2.
In hindsight, I now realize that I had a single herald patch on my back after dose 1, but had no idea what it was and never made the connection until the PR "exploded" after shot 2.
I've never had PR before, and had never had a negative reaction to a vaccine before.
It has been 15 days, since the rash appeared and I am now in the flattening, flaky, very itchy stage.
I'm using cortisone 10 for face and groin and prescribed topical steroid cream for rest of body.
Dermatologist prescribed 6 day course of oral steroids and am taking that in addition to antihistamine (started with Zyrtec, but switched to Bendadryl in hopes that it would help more with the itching.
I also find the the Aveeno Oatmeal Baths are very soothing.
The itching is the worst at night.

Hi,
I'm so happy to hear that this goes away at some point from all of you.
I'm a very paranoid person, so before this was diagnosed my brain went in all the directions it could in trying to figure out what it was : irritation from wearing a bra (hadn't for years til this month, and of course the herald or mother patch appeared right below my right breast where my bra would sit), fleas, sea lice, and syphilis. I also hadn't been to a derm. since I was a teenager (I am 28 now), and have no insurance, so was already doubting the quality of the least expensive doctor I could find.
The rash is all over my tummy, around my breasts, and along the line of my groin. Some spots have popped up on my legs and arms, and has been spreading up my armpit and a little around my neck. I first started itching around 4 weeks ago, two weeks after my first jab of Pfizer. No rash appeared until two days after my second dose, which also happened to be the day after I went to the beach. The rash looked like sea lice, but I worried when it hadn't disappeared after more than a week.
I tried a generic version of Benadryl, as well as applied Aveeno anti itch cream, neither of which seemed to help too much.
The derm. immediately diagnosed as PR, and hadn't mentioned any connection to the vaccine.
She told me nothing would help, and advised me to stop using the cream but said to take the Benadryl at night if needed for itching.
Upon my return home, I instantly began to search to see if there was a connection to the vaccine, and I found a number of studies reporting PR as a side effect. From my knowledge, I've never had a poor reaction to a vaccine, but according to this article from the Washington Post this reaction is a good thing ! (?) : https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/covid-vaccine-rash-side-effect/2021/04/09/7517bad0-97bd-11eb-962b-78c1d8228819_story.html
I have an appointment with an OBGYN today coincidentally, and hope they can rule out syphilis as apparently PR can be misdiagnosed for it, and I do not like the idea of sitting around and trusting this will go away on its own.
Since seeing the derm. last week, the rash has spread more each day it seems. I was smothering myself in Calamine lotion after a shower each morning to wash off the previous days. The shower definitely irritated the rash, and the calamine lotion caused it to dry out though not itch. I don't if that's good and if that's what we want...
Yesterday I began using Gold Bond Eczema Colloidal Oatmeal cream instead, and the rash looks a lot healthier, less red, and seemingly less raised, though my skin still feels like the splotchiness
is spreading....
Summer has been coming on strong here in NYC, seeing 91 degree days consistently for the last few weeks. I've noticed sweating really makes the whole experience a billion times worse. I've never been so itchy in my life, I felt like I was on fire. Once I wiped the sweat though, it calmed down luckily, though I was still hot in body temp.
With where these marks live, I fear scarring soooooo badly. I see sunshine is supposed to help, but I worry about risking it.... Obviously, with the look of these marks too, and their placement, it's difficult to feel comfortable or attractive in one's own skin, but I'm trying.
Just wanted to add my two cents in case it helps any one else with their case!
