Would like to share my experience with others

Male 36

Have had problems peeing for about 3 years about 2 years ago went for a urethral cystoscopy and they found a stricture and done a urethrotomy at the same time . I was then left with a catheter for about a week once removed everything was great was peeing with a great force. Lasted around 7 months then the problems was coming back . back to the surgeon which do e some test saying stricture was back and is now longer due the urethrotomy and I would be best to get a urethroplasty. Last week was in for the opp lasted about 6 hours they had to take a graft from my inner check. Now have a catheter in for around the next 3 week till things hell up. Pain is not that bad more pain in the graft site than the man hood balls are like coconut's and walking has taken on a new look but hopefully this will be a long term fix . if I can offer any information that I know to anyone in the same situation please ask me and I will try and help.

Thanks for info. I have not read any replies so I apologize if you answered already. How is it 2 years after surgery? I will need the same surgery soon. Why were your cajones enormous? I had stricture surgery 17 years ago where they cut it out. Catheter was the worst part of the experience after. A week or two after the catheter came out my flow slowed down and have been living with it since then. which brings me to needing it now as the closure is very tight. Also, do they have prescription pills so you do not get an erection while you sleep. This was very painful each and every night from what I recall. How long was your hospital stay? I was in and out same day last surgery. When they pulled out the catheter, did you bleed? I remember bleeding for twenty minutes after it was removed and them would bleed randomly for the next few weeks as it healed. I had to wear a pull up diaper like for old people. 😃

hi there, I just underwent first stage urethroplasty with buccal mucosa replacement 6 months ago, 2nd stage reconstruction next Feb

are you able to answer any prior questions i had? also, my retrograde urethrogram showed the blockage towards base of penis. why and how did you know you needed two stages? is that typical?

mine was close to bladder - i had single operation - outpatient surgery - no problem with overnight woody - no medications needed. No bleeding, either, from urethroplasty. i did bleed after first urethotomy - stricture surgery- but that time was without a catheter.

thank you. inuktimately went back in froday because i p****d and nothing came out! failed at inserting a catheter bc of the stricture. luckily the field attempt unblocked it enough to be able to go P again for now. I will find out more today! First surgery was the pain with the catheter. And the bleeding for 20 minutes after it came out!

i'm a year post urethroplasty - not sure how many urethotomys i had but at least 3-4 prior to the surgery.

nerves are still itchy around the sac. my bladder is distended after years of stricture so can hold a lot. eventually when i do pee i have great stream. there have been some issues with cloudy stinky urine which seems like infection but haven't had a fever and culture has not come back positive .

a couple weeks post op i wore the catheter - did not stop me from going to work - figured out the portable bag that straps to the leg.

i think the nerve regrowth was most uncomfortable but the healing process has been great

thanks. anything negative long term as a result from your surgery.? i wonder what happens with the 10% that arent successful?

10% can get strictures renarrowing or revisions needed post reconstruction procedures . Regarding recovery is all down to weather they are performing a one or two stages urethroplasty and of course how long are these strictures as that will determine time in theater and pain levels after the operation. I had a buccal mucosa 1st stage reconstruction (4cms Ls urethral stricures to be replace) 5 days recov. in hospital and long recov at home

i will find out friday after my appointment to see weat he thinks. although he may not know for sure until day of surgery after he gets up there with a camera.

he thinks he can cut out the structure and saw the urethra back together in a urethroplasty. If he gets in there and finds that it is bigger than he thinks, then he will have to take a graph from my mouth. I can leave the same day and have a catheter for three weeks if he just cuts it and so was it. I have to stay in the hospital for two days and have the catheter for three weeks if he has to take a graph from my mouth. I am obviously hoping for first scenario. i am using siri and my iphone to type this.

The office is going to call in two weeks. Then they need to schedule it and it probably will not be until January!

i had 3 urethotomy's. First two failed at the one year mark. Third failed after 6 months.

i recommend that people do their research before having the operation repeated after the first time.

i dint have a link now bug the research i came across is that if the urethotomy fails the first attempt it will always fail again. and that repeated attempts at it can actually cause worse strictures.

urethrootomy same as urethroplasty? sorry they failed. ive had a laser surgery 17 years ago. that didnt work two weeks after. i asked what the failure symptoms are if im in the 10-15%. he told me it would go back to how it is now. if this happens, im jist going to live with it and not touch it again. fingers crossed it works and stays working! want to have a graft as opposed to end to end.
