Just started Selincro/Nalmefene today

I finally discussed my problem with my G.P. today about alcohol and how dependant I am when it comes to alcohol. I've reach rock bottom these past few weeks and cannot continue like this. I took Selincro today for the first time, within two hours I felt dizzy and a bit strange. Then I burst out crying. Very odd! Is this normal? It's only day one so I will see how tomorrow goes. I am based in Ireland by the way. Found this forum and found the information extremely helpful. Don't know what I would have done without it!

Hi
I've got the selincro had it in the drawer for about 6 mths but too scared to take it as I already suffer from panic /anxiety attacks and have heard about the side effects
I've Ben drinking too much for about 7 yrs , all started after marriage and family problems and losing my business and in the same year then 3yrs ago my father becoming gravely ill and dying in December 2016, basically the works last few years of life, my marriage and business is all great now and has been for a few yrs but the drinking habit hasn't gone and I've been living in a spiralling pattern of self destructive behaviour, but somewhere in all that managed to kick cocaine and smoking!! And ive been clear of those for over 3 yrs now
But alcohol has crept up on me and ending up really being my nemesis. Can you take part of a selincro tablet instead of a full one just to assess how it makes
me feel?

Hello,
After 10 years of binge drinking at the weekends, I've decided I don't want to do this anymore. I recently blacked out at a party and woke up feeling very ashamed. I want to order tablets to combat my cravings at the weekend. I don't really drink in the week, but I get to Saturday/Sunday and I have to drink! Can someone recommend a cheap/reliable supplier for tablets needed?
Darren 😊

Please would you PM me the name and phone number of the organisation you were given, and the town and county that you live. Finally, also your email address.
I will then do some digging for you and check what the procedure is for your area. Lots of these organisations have recently changed hands, and I wouldn't be surprised if your doc gave you the wrong details to call (it's happened to numerous people I have spoken to before).
As Robin correctly mentioned previously, these medications are prescription-only, so you do need to be assessed to see if they are suitable for you. I need to find you the correct person at the correct place, and then things should go much smoother for you.

Not any more, Hayley. At least no in the UK. As of 31st August, the company made a business decision to stop the treatment via their online doctor section. There is no other online doctor service in the UK that will provide the treatment without seeing an actual doctor's prescription first.
I do have the prescribing doctor's private email address and he has agreed to keep prescribing to anyone who has already started the treatment through them, so as not to interrupt their recovery, but there is no longer an online consultation for patients who are new to the treatment.
We are currently in communications with the doctor to see if we can work out a way that he can prescribe to new patients in his capacity as a private doctor, rather than through their online doctor service, but it's early days and I don't know it will happen or not. We think it may happen once we have our online TSM counselling support tool available, which should be at the end of this year, we hope, because then he knows he will be prescribing in line with official guidelines which state that he must be happy that the additional psychosocial support is in place before he prescribes.

That's great. Get back in touch when you are close to running out and I will provide you with the email address of the doctor who prescribed them so you can get a refill.

Mind only offer sessions between. 10am and 2pm Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday.... I work full time so it's impossible. I explained it to lady I spoke to and she apologised 😕

Hi Darren,
Sorry I don't quite understand this, Darren. Why are Mind involved? (Am I correct in thinking that you mean Mind as in the Mind mental health charity?)

As I'm not able to see my GP for several weeks and after a heavy night of beer again I googled 'alcohol issues help' and it came back with mind as an organisation that can help?

You really need to contact the specialist doctors based at the organisation I sent in my email to you. You can self-refer yourself to them and this is generally much quicker than waiting for a GP appointment. In your area, all treatment is dealt with by them, not by your GP, so even after several weeks waiting for a GP appointment, he/she is pretty much only going to refer you on to them anyway.
If you don't still have the email, let me know and I will resend it to you.

We have the details of the doctor who used to do the prescribing at P2U and following discussions, he is more than happy to look at prescribing via telephone.
I can't put his email address on here so will PM you his details.
