Knee discoloation

Posted , 6 users are following.

i took a  photo of my knee earlier as I've been keeping a record on the progress of my scar

the photo looks strange as if you can see the metal through the skin

has anyone else experienced this?

Looks normal to me with a bit of bruising. Mine looked similar till about 6 weeks. Don't panic! :-)

I'm 18 weeks tomorrow if it was early weeks I wouldn't be bothered

Part of my first replaced knee was numb till about 8 months and the clicking and movement is normal. As my muscles got stronger there was less movement. My second knee is quite numb yet at 9 weeks and I am told it is normal.

Did you find your second knee op easier, harder or just the same as the first. I may have to have other one done later this year or next year

Some things were easier: I had less pain when I put weight on it and I walked earlier but it is taking longer to get good flexion. I knew the stages and what to expect so I could recognize and celebrate improvements this time instead of agonize. This knee needed a lot of extra work due to taking out screws and straightening. I think that is the main contributor to more night pain  now and is slowing progress. But it does not stress me because I have recovered great mobility after 6 reconstructive and 6 or 7 small knee surgeries so I have great faith in technology, my surgeon and my body's ability to heal. So this surgery has been more of a challenge but it is also teaching me patience and tenacity. I will reach my goal, of that I am sure, but it has been a different  and steeper road so far. I hope that answers your question.

brilliant scar, jean!  mine still looks angry and on certain spots still hurts a tiny bit.  of course i still massage it but the progress is slow.  i also had self dissolving stitches.

is your knee still swollen on the inside leg?  or is it just the angle the photo has been taken at?  no, i don't have anything like that for sure.  but bruising at this stage, and more importantly, bruising which gets worse when having been for a walk (not a marathon) doesn't sound right to me.

      Hi Britta

I'm really pleased with the scar but it's what's underneath That's the worry

and yes the knee is still swollen ..what you saw in the pic was a good day

i did tell the Surgeon I wasn't happy but he said he'd see me in February to see if it's settled down

it was New Years Eve when I saw him and I honestly think he couldn't be bothered.

i have to see my GP later today for a routine appointment so I will voice my concerns with him and I need some advice on getting rid of this sciatica it's driving me nuts.

seriously?  he couldn't be bothered?  shocking.

perhaps your gp is more sympathetic?  and if push comes to shove recommend a different specialist?  plus of course the sciatica is suuuuper painful and once the nerve has been "irritated", it takes an age to calm down again, providing the irritation factor has been removed.

      bless you, not good sad

He was bust rushing his patients through ...I thought I've come all this way about "14 miles" for just under 5 mins of his time

i will see what the GP says later ..but I really don't think they tread on each other's toes. Meanwhile I'll just limp along

      Jean

      ps ...how are you now?

      Oops busy not bust ...lol

      Hi Jean

I had back trouble and sciatica for years after my children.

I found laying on the floor really helped. Just take a book and a  drink and a pillow and relax for as long as you can.

I still do that now and do my physio while down there smile

Thinking back to the appointment with the Surgeon

the nurse who was in attendance with him asked if I ought to have  an X-ray

he just said ...not today next time she comes

so again that leads me to believe he was rushing his patients through

perhaps here had a New Years Eve party to go too ....biggrin

honest to goodness!  i do apologize, it is just sooooo different here.  i really shouldn't compare, it is the way it is.  i just heard on the tv that the a&e departments all over the uk are bursting at the seams as the percentage of inpatients has just exploded over the last years.  they put this down to the fact that gp's are so inaccessible.  food for thought.  still, not helping you with your dilemma, eh?

      Hi Britta

the usual wait to see my GP is around 3 weeks so you can imagine why I nearly collapsed with shock when I rang the surgery yesterday and the receptionist said ...tomorrow.

i thought all my birthdays had come at once ....lol

and yes I think the A&E crisis is due to the fact you can't get to see your GP

how can anyone  book an appointment to be ill 3 weeks ahead...it's like saying I'll book now just in case I'm not well in 3 weeks.

It's strange how different our experiences can be in the same country.... I'm in the UK and there's never a problem getting to see a GP at my surgery, you may have to wait 2 or 3 days to see a particular GP but if you don't mind which one you see you'll get an app that day. And my Surgeon who I've been seeing for 10yrs (through HP and TKR) is amazing..... When you see him he gives you his full attention and makes you feel like you're the only person on his list, and the nurses running his clinic love him too.... He brings them a bar of chocolate at the beginning of his clinic to keep them going!!
