l have a weird sensation of pressure in my front upper teeth
Posted , 65 users are following.
I have been feeling a weird sensation in my teeth since last September, at first it was like pressure, while eating,I felt that they were misplaced and extremely tight. Every time l brushed them l would feel that l moved them or that they would fall or something,(though they were solid) and then l'd feel the tightness, as if i had residual food in there.
Lately i ve felt that they are swollen or stiff (like they were made of wood kinda) and they even hurt a little,as if they were impacted, it is almost unnoticeable and i must clarify that l haven't suffered any dental injury,
I think my gums are healthy, l do not bleed, my breath doesn't smell bad, l do not suffer from bruxism, extreme temperatures do not bother me.
It is not a big thing but has become and obsession, lm afraid they might drop out from one minute to another and that has made the sensation even harder, l think.
l don't wanna be crybabish and run to the dentist due to this, if the symptoms were harder l would, but it is sort of mild,
is the future consequences what worry me. Anybody else has gone through this? Right now i have fear of hard things such as apples and nuts and the like because l do feel some annoyance, though l don't know what percentage is psychological and what is real nuisance, even when l smile l feel that they get tight or move...

Hi,
I have the same feeling. I have lots of pain in my front teeth in upper and lower jaw. This was started 5 years ago. I have seen dentists that they say you need night guard or orthodontics treatment. But I know they are wrong. My pressure did not relieved with any night guard and it gets even worse. I have understood that my back teeth height over the fillings has been reduced and front teeth have more contact than back teeth. so why my front lower teeth have been deformed and my teeth base are painful. I am not a dentist but I have a great observation. I am sure I know that is the real issue. I need to find a dentist to make half crown on top of back teeth. too much worried to loose my front teeth. already some of those move when I touch them.

I dont want to be dramatic but I have had a very similar problem for a long time and have been trying to sort it out for 8 years so I have a lot of experience of different treatments. I have consulted many many dentists, doctors and alternative therapists .
I can only tell you about what I find useful , I hope it helps.
Firstly mine started when I had the front teeth reshaped with composite filling because they were wearing away. This procedure should have taken an hour but actually took two and a half hours , it looked great but was a great trauma to my jaw and I left the dentists knowing there was something wrong.
He did some adjustments and gave me a tooth guard and said it would settle down, it didnt.
Many people find tooth guards, jaw splints and other devices make it worse because they encourage the brain to bite against the pressure of something in your mouth, However most dentists will tell you to persevere and it will improve but thats not my experience.
It is very difficult to find a dentist that really understands bite problems . I managed to find a brilliant guy who raised my back teeth which was helpful but unfortunatelyhe had to take medical retirement before he finished the work so the problem remains.
I realise now that the cause of the problem is not the teeth but originates in the jaw muscles. It is very much relatedto tightness and tension in the jaw. If you can really get your jaw and face muscles relaxed it may take away some of the weird sensations and the need to clench, grind, hold, push, slide, obsess etc.
DONT LET ANYONE TELL YOU ITS PHSYCHOLOGICAL STRESS RELATED ITS REAL.
Of course worry and stress make it worse but mine is a physical problem .
All the alternative therapies like Bowen technique, acupuncture, cranio -sacral helped a bit , none where a miracle cure.
Botox injections didnt do anything and all types of painkillers help relieve it for a short while but arent very effective and are a very problematic route to go.
Ice packs and warm compresses help and local anaesthetic gel are a bit of a last resort when it drives me mad.
Hypnotherapy didnt work for me although it does for some people. Chairopractic didnt work and was very expensive.
So I certainly know what its like to feel desperate and taken over by this inexplicable condition.
So on a positive note, I meet a wonderful massage therapist who has put together a treatment of deep tissue massage and cranio sacral techniques , at last someone who really listened and understands. Again its not an instant cure but really helpful and most importantly she recommends that you continue the deep tissue work by doing Yin yoga regularly to stretch out and rebalance all your muscles
I havent been doing this very long but feel it is the way forward.
Cold wind and rain really numb the ache in my face muscles so I got a dog and we walk the hills and enjoy the winter weather!
So you see its been a journey and still is and it has changed my life.
If there is anyone one out there who who has been able to cure there bite dysfunction I would be interested to hear.
So many people have said "oh I get that" to me ,its obviously a widespread little understood problem.
Good Luck

Hi everyone,
I have an ENT appointment in a few weeks to try and find out whats going on. Ive had lots of visits to the dentist and doctors about the pressure on my top front teeth for the last year!
My doc seems to now think its to do with my sinus, after having the flu last spring. I dont seem to get this feeling quite as often now but when i do i feel as though my teeth are being pushed out from the top! Theyre not loose at all, they are healthy and so are my gums so thinking yes maybe it is to do with my sinus. When i try to explain it i get strange looks but its very real, and is distressing.

I too have this sensation!! A numb, full, internal tooth feeling. I have had it for maybe a year now. I do have hypothyroid/Hashimotos... initially I thought it was tied to that, and that when my levels were out of whack I felt the sensation but after lots of testing of that theory I'm finding it not to hold true. I have very healthy teeth over all and take good care of them. I am concerned that this is the beginning of yet another autoimmune issue, related to nerves. I will say my sensation is NOT 24/7 THANK GOD!! Mine is very fleeting... I will have it for sometimes maybe only 20 min and then its gone... other times I'll have it for longer spans in the day... sometimes I'll go days even weeks with not feeling it at all and then suddenly it will come back. That is actually why I am here now... I just started having it so back to google I went and found this forum. I'm so glad I found other people that can relate, I wish/hope we can all find a solution or cause.

wow.. I can't believe so many of you are suffering with this! It does give me some comfort to know I am not alone or losing my mind. I have broke down do many times at the dentist and doctors... It's the frustration if not seeing the end of this in sight 😦
I have also started with tinitus and I'm not sure if this is related but worth a mention.
update on my situation ...
4 months from start of pain...front tooth still incredibly tender and pain moves around my top left teeth. They still feel like they are going to fall out, and I still have this weird pushing sensation.
on second lot of anti biotics to rule out infection. Doctor has prescribed neproxin and pain killers, I'm trying acupuncture , meditation classes and sports massage to see if ANYTHING will help.
I will keep you posted if anything helps me in the hope it might help you .
I really feel for you all and I appreciate how much of a truly awful time you must be having. It really wears you down.

There is something putting pressure on the nerve that controls the upper left quadrant of your mouth, or it is possible that it is exposed to air somewhere. Does it hurt more when you inhale and exhale?

I'm convinced it has something to do with shingles.. have had nerve damage under arm for 17mths and teeth issues started right before it. been to every type of dentist cant find anything wrong. dr says its nothing to do with shingles. but maybe nerve specialist is next visit
