l have a weird sensation of pressure in my front upper teeth

Posted , 65 users are following.

I have been feeling a weird sensation in my teeth since last September, at first it was like pressure, while eating,I felt that they were misplaced and extremely tight. Every time l brushed them l would feel that l moved them or that they would fall  or something,(though they were solid) and then l'd feel the tightness, as if i had residual food in there.

Lately i ve felt that they are  swollen or stiff (like they were made of wood kinda) and they even hurt a little,as if they were impacted,  it is almost unnoticeable and i must clarify that l haven't suffered any dental injury,

I think my gums are healthy, l do not bleed, my breath doesn't smell bad, l do not suffer from bruxism, extreme temperatures do not bother me.

It is not a big thing but has become and obsession, lm afraid they might drop out from one minute to another and that has made the sensation even harder, l think.

l don't wanna be crybabish and run to the dentist due to this, if the symptoms were harder l would, but it is sort of mild,

is the future consequences what worry me. Anybody else has gone through this? Right now i have fear of hard things such as apples and nuts and the like because l do feel some annoyance, though l don't know what percentage is psychological and what is real nuisance, even when l smile l feel that they get tight or move...

I am so relived to see these posts. I thought i was the only person in the world with this problem. I've had it for 6 week in the top and bottom of my front teeth. Even had root canal on one tooth because of it. Been back and forth to the dentist who had no idea what I was talking about. I've also been for to the doctors who is sending me for blood tests. Then is referring me to a neurologist. I've been trying to find info on it online but not much has come up so have been in despair with it. Its constant and worrying. Has anyone had any progress with it? I've been assuming the worst and it's been getting me down. Thank you

I'm so pleased I've seen this forum! It started a week ago as if two teeth are pushing together when they're not! I've tried flossing and using mouthwash to subside the constant dull ache but I feel like I think of nothing else. when I'm busy and chatting to people the pain almost disappears but as soon as I'm alone I feel the ache and push against the tooth with my tongue which makes it worse!

the top gum of my two front teeth stings a little too and quite tender to touch. I don't have perfect teeth but I've certainly not experienced this before!

I don't wanna live with this 😦 I wish it would go away so I could carry on as normal

I have had similar symptoms for a very long time and seen many dentists. Most of them have not been very helpful.

I am now seeing a dentist who has a specialist interest in TMJ problems. He is a NHS consultant dentist in a dental hospital. He is really sure that its my jaw that needs treatment not adjustments to my teeth .

He has made me an acrylic jaw splint with the intention of realigning the jaw bone so that my teeth come together in a concentric position and to keep my jaw from sliding.

I could write a book on TMJ and treatment, its difficult but I feel that its essential to get a dentist that knows what they are talking about rather than guessing (many are not sufficiently experienced or qualified to be of help ) but thats the dental industry for you. Just be really careful about who you go to, ask a lot of questions about what relevant training they have had and what their success rate is.

I totally understand the desperation that it causes its not neurotic or imagined its real.

Im sorry I cant give you an easy remedy, I am reluctant to offer advise as I have had a lot of wild goose chases into expensive treatments that did nothing.

I find ice packs to the sides of my face useful and medicated plasters even menthol rub any thing helps tight muscles relax. sometimes I take painkillers but thats not a goodroad to go down as its a chronic condition.

Also yoga breathing can take away the muscle aches that are associated with it and help relaxation.

Its really helpful if people around you at least know and try to understand what is happening to you although its difficult to communicate what it feels like,

Good Luck, if make progress please let us know and remember "what doesnt kill you makes you stronger" !

I am glad to have found this discussion. My mouth discomfort seems to, as other have commented, be taking over my thoughts. I had a fall a year ago and landed on my face. I broke my two top front composite filling teeth - (I broke them initially when I was eight). I got the composites repaired soon after the fall, but very quickly felt as if they were too tight, and returned to the dentist to have some adjustments made. I understand that a trauma to a tooth can take 12-18 months to heal, and although my top front left is improving it still feels rather tender. My jaw has not felt right since the fall. I had it x-rayed some weeks after the accident and everything looked OK.

Over the last year my mouth has frankly felt a mess. My teeth feel too crowded and my gums feel as if I constantly need to floss. I have, of course, been to the dentist several times and have no sign of gum disease and x-rays show no change to the nerve in the top left front tooth.

I do not grind my teeth. I do, possibly clench, but probably do so much more now as I am constantly aware of my mouth. My teeth do not feel loose - quite the opposite, too tightly packed. A lot of the time I also feel as if I am slightly sucking in and often feel the need to bite down with lips wide apart and almost inhale simultaneously. i also find myself holding my ha d across my jaw and mouth a lot. My bite does not feel quite right and I was interested to read the comment above about jaw problems.

I visited the hygienist and the dentist this week as this is driving me bonkers now. Neither discovered any problems. I had a cast made for a gum shield which I will collect next week. I have a sensitive gag reflex, so how I will cope with the shield I do not know, but am prepared to try anything at this point. I feel there may be several things going on with me - The tooth tenderness following the impact as well as the gum and jaw problems. I am at the point where I think the doctor may be the next step. i am otherwise pretty fit and well, but this like others, I am totally obsessing over this.

Hi, did you ever find this got better. About 2 weeks ago I had a fall an impacted the front of my mouth. My whole mouth hurt like hell as I bashed it quite badly. But my teeth didnt get loose or crack etc. I have been taking pain relief but am petrified of going to the dentist as I don't want anyone touching them . I just am so aware of them all the time. The pain is def getting better but they just feel strange and a bit weird all the time .

I have been feeling this for quite some time now. I have crowns on my front upper teeth. a lot of what people are saying on here is that they feel it when they press their tongue to their teeth. but my pressure comes from when my top lip presses against my teeth so it's like their being pressed back. even just from licking my lips or putting on chap stick on it's a tight squeeze and then release. it feels like they are moving around at the root and they might come out at any moment. it's all I can ever think about. it comes and goes. sometimes it's all day and sometimes its sporadically throughout the day. but it is on my mind at all times and I'm going insane over it. sometimes when it's cold it's like there is more pressure. I haven't found a dentist yet that can tell me anything as to why this is happening. I have never really found the right wording for Google to know what I'm talking about until tonight. and wow there are so many of us having this issue. my heart goes out to each and every one of you because man this is no way to live. please update me if any one can.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one with this. I've had mine since August, to for front teeth and top four bottom teeth. It's taken over my life and on my mind all the time at its a covariance tingling pushing crawling feeling. I've been referred for a dental xray and to a neurologist. Has anyone found anything that helps or had had it stop some they have had it. Thanks

I have had a very similar sensation for a very long time and had various treatments. I have learnt that for me the problem comes from tension in the jaw and face muscles which impacts on my teeth and causes the awful pushing clenching grinding numb akward feeling that is so difficult to describe.

I try not to use painkillers unless it gets very acute and causes actual jaw joint pain which it does frequently.

The most effective help for me is warm and cold compresses (Ihave a silicone face mask which is micro -waveable which really helps for periods of time).

Also Ifind that applying local anaesthetic gel like Oragel or Bongela helpful but wears off quite quickly but helps to break the cycle of tightness and tension.

I totally understand the desperate feeling of being overwhelmed by this condition its horrible.

If you get any help from a neurologist I would be really interested as I have lost faith in professionals who promise the earth with great confidence and deliver nothing.

While I'm glad I'm not the only one with the pressure, at the same time I don't wish it on anyone. Mine is a little different. I'll try to describe it. I have this pressure/tightness(not pain) on my upper and lower tooth. More noticeable some time more than others. At the same time, i have this pulsating feeling behind my nose after I eat or sometimes when I'm eating. When the pressure comes on, it's scary and I can't do anything else. This goes in for a couple of minutes and after, i have this popping in my nostrils. I went to an ENT and he gave me some steriod which did not help. Mine you, this all started last August. The only thing I was doing then was a diet program called Dherbs. I don't know if to go to a dentist,ENT or neurologist. And since I don't have insurance I have to pay out of pocket which is astronomical. I need a resolution to this. It's driving me nuts

Does anyone have an update on this? This sounds very like a problem my wife is experiencing. She has the feeling of tightness, pressure, pain, twisting feeling in the tooth to her left of her front tooth for 18 months. She swears her teeth are moving and pushing together. She has extreme anxiety and depression either caused by or contributing to it. It has gotten progressively worse. She has seen dentists, endodontiats, orthodontists, an oral medicine MD and a maxilofacial pathologist. Noone knows! Her GP, forgot that one, had her on Gabipentin and now Lyrica. Her pain does not increase when wiggled. Only relief is while sleeping. Anyone considered Trigemintal Neuralgia, Type 2? She is past desperate. Help appreciated!
