l have a weird sensation of pressure in my front upper teeth
Posted , 65 users are following.
I have been feeling a weird sensation in my teeth since last September, at first it was like pressure, while eating,I felt that they were misplaced and extremely tight. Every time l brushed them l would feel that l moved them or that they would fall or something,(though they were solid) and then l'd feel the tightness, as if i had residual food in there.
Lately i ve felt that they are swollen or stiff (like they were made of wood kinda) and they even hurt a little,as if they were impacted, it is almost unnoticeable and i must clarify that l haven't suffered any dental injury,
I think my gums are healthy, l do not bleed, my breath doesn't smell bad, l do not suffer from bruxism, extreme temperatures do not bother me.
It is not a big thing but has become and obsession, lm afraid they might drop out from one minute to another and that has made the sensation even harder, l think.
l don't wanna be crybabish and run to the dentist due to this, if the symptoms were harder l would, but it is sort of mild,
is the future consequences what worry me. Anybody else has gone through this? Right now i have fear of hard things such as apples and nuts and the like because l do feel some annoyance, though l don't know what percentage is psychological and what is real nuisance, even when l smile l feel that they get tight or move...

Hi,
I have the same experience. Tightness in my left upper teeth, the whole upper left side, and sensitive, tingling sensation when my tongue touches them.
And my left bottom teeth do not feel tight, and only have the sensitive, tingling sensation.
I think the most likely cause is we grind or clench our teeth at night.
Dental splints do not help. They stop grinding but cannot do anything about clenching. And we may clench even worse as we try to bite the splint in our mouth.
I am not too sure about the jaw muscles. They may affect the way we bite. We might have heavy or unbalanced biting. But I am not sure if that is related to the tightness. I eat using my right upper and bottom teeth. I eat carefully and the left upper and bottom teeth do not contact at all. But they are still tight and sensitive.
If we clench or grind our teeth the "wrong way", meaning that we bite incorrectly and have our teeth injured (two teeth meet rather than bite), then we may feel the tightness as a result of the trauma.
The only solution I can think of is to ask someone monitor your sleep to see what really happens. I now sleep at daytime so my wife can monitor my sleep and wake me up when she sees me clench my teeth (by keeping an eye on my lips). I will see how this goes.

I can really empathise with this. I have had a very similar experience for a long time and know that it is depressing and debilitating. It has changed my life although it doesnt sound like a big deal until you have to live with it.
I can now cope with it but havent been able to eradicate it but it often is better than in the past.
I found a brilliant massage and alternative therapist who works on releasing the jaw through myo fascia deep massage.
She has experience of the condition herself. Its so helpful to be able to talk to someone who really understands the problem.
Its not a quick fix, I am working on the excersises that she recommends and trying to do a regular relaxation and meditation and all the other helpful things like hot compresses etc.
Slowly I am ditching the painkillers and feeling better. I finally had to admit that maybe I am not as cool as I thought and really I have held a lot of stress in my jaw for a long long time.
Its quite hard to get an appointment with her because she has a queue of people suffering with jaw problems although she teaches her techniques to other therapists because she is having a good success rate. Initially I thought I was the only person with this problem but now I realise its very common.
So you see its been and still is quite a journey and like yourselves I have tried many drugs, jaw splints and dental treatments and have never found a simple answer.
I really wish you the very best of luck on the journey

i'm so glad i found this thread, i woke up on friday feeling pain in my upper front teeth. now it has become a sensation of pressure that seems to be spreading to my other upper teeth. it's very upsetting and stressful. i think it might be due to my wisdom teeth that have not been extracted and due to some of my teeth being crooked. i can't visit the dentist for a consultation right now due to the corona virus situation and the fact that my case isn't considered urgent or an emergency. i understand that only dire cases should be treated at the dentist right now, but i am so scared and stressed about this pressure i'm feeling in my teeth! it hurts when i tap on some of my teeth as well. i don't know how i'm going to live with this for two more weeks. i know i'm being dramatic but i feel like my teeth are going to rub against each other and my nerves are going to be destroyed and i am never going to have nice normal teeth again.

my teeth also hurt a lot when they touch hot or cold food. the pain lasts for about several minutes and there's nothing i can do but cringe and wait it out.

Hello to all dealing with this horrendous situation. I have pain, pressure & numbness in my 2 right, front, top teeth. My teeth feel thick and "wooden" too! Also, tiny saliva bubbles are constantly forming in the gum above these teeth and flow down the back of the tooth surfaces. Dealing with this almost 10 years. Both are crowns. When the first crowns were placed 25 years ago, there was no problem for 15 years! It only started when those crowns failed (they're not expected to last forever) & were replaced, one with a much larger post. Through much researching, I believe now that I have a tooth root fracture from wedging in such a large post. Now, after COVID, I have to find a dentist who will remove everything. I dont care if I'm missing teeth and get a removable bridge or Snap on Smile-- anything to stop this pain! I promise to keep this forum updated on if I get relief from taking these out. How do I cope?? To keep my tongue from constantly pressing on these 2 teeth which causes so much pain after a few hours, I bought a THIN clear mouthguard from a website that gives you the gummy stuff to make an impression and mail it in, then they mail back a mouthguard. I wear it 24/7. It saved me from severe depression over this. I hate wearing it, but I hate NOT wearing it even more!
Promise to keep you updated!

Hopefully my experience will be helpful. I was suffering nearly identical problems with pressure and tightness/crowding in my front teeth and a feeling like if I bit into something hard like an apple, my teeth would come right out or break off. At times I was even able to "click" certain teeth back and forth. Sometimes it was only my upper 2 front teeth, other times the front 6 or so on the top. They even sometimes felt misaligned slightly when I closed them fully...like they didnt fit together the way they should. At its worst my gums and teeth would throb with every beat of my pulse and feel really sensitive and delicate or weak almost.
I went to the dentist 4 times, got fitted for a bite plate mouth guard thing, tried over the counter guards, everything I could think of. After months of feeling awful, I finally figured out that I'm allergic to my sensitivity toothpaste! Naturally when my teeth felt awful I'd use the sensitivity toothpaste and it would get worse. I was unknowingly stuck in this vicious cycle. The revelation came after not using it for 3 days, I felt like a new man. Almost all pressure is gone and my teeth fit together properly now. Inflammation of my gums and tissues was the culprit and my teeth are naturally quite tight so very little inflammation is all it took.
If anyone has yet to explore this route please do. I know how awful this can be. The 2 toothpastes I've since discovered will cause this reaction for me are Senodyne Rapid Relief and Sensodyne Repair and Protect. I have yet to pinpoint which ingredient or ingredients but it's a safe bet that whichever ingredients are meant to provide extra sensitivity relief are my problem.
Really hope this info can help someone else!

I found it did relieve some sensitivity for awhile but the point was that it turns out I'm allergic to those toothpastes. They were the cause of all of my suffering. If you have similar symptoms, try a different toothpaste that maybe doesn't have any sensitivity ingredients. like the ingredient NOVAMIN.

I have always used rapid relief and repair and protect for years!
For the past months i have been getting a weird click in certain teeth when eating and when i push my tongue against them. This is in certain ones on my upper left. dentist didnt really have much to say about this. i stopped flossing and it went away! ive then started flossing again as you should do and its come back. I also get this weird tight pushing feeling. when i eat and when i brush my teeth. it feels like my feont two upper teeth and pushing together. if i then touch between my first and second tooth it feels like their pushing aswell. The only way i have found relief is by pushing my nail between my feont two teeth to separate them. but it soon comes back.
Im petrified of the dentist, have bad anxiety in general and suffer with TMJ. Dont know if all of this is related or not. i feel like im going mad and scared to tell the dentist!
does any of this sound similar to your problem?

It does sound similar. Sounds like you sometimes have gum inflammation as I did. Many things can cause gum inflammation like flossing too hard, but for me it was those toothpastes. I suggest trying a different one for a few days just to see. You might be surprised. I sure was.

Which sensitive toothpastes have you used that had this effect? This is the first time I've seen someone actually have the same issue as me and I'm currently using Crest Pro-Health Gum and Sensitivity and have used other crest sensitive toothpastes lately and nothing has changed. Wondering if i'm allergic to the toothpaste as well.

switching toothpastes didnt work for me, i tried quite a few. i spoke to the dentist and he thinks its from stress and clenching and grinding because of having problems with my jaw. ive had a mouthguard which for the first two nights i noticed an improvement. the 3rd night (last night) not so good. my jaw locked really bad in the night and is very sore today and my teeth feel funny again. so i really do not know! he did say it could take 3-4 weeks for it to feel better though. other than that he said it could be a misaligned bite and therefore may need braces.
