l have a weird sensation of pressure in my front upper teeth

Posted , 65 users are following.

I have been feeling a weird sensation in my teeth since last September, at first it was like pressure, while eating,I felt that they were misplaced and extremely tight. Every time l brushed them l would feel that l moved them or that they would fall  or something,(though they were solid) and then l'd feel the tightness, as if i had residual food in there.

Lately i ve felt that they are  swollen or stiff (like they were made of wood kinda) and they even hurt a little,as if they were impacted,  it is almost unnoticeable and i must clarify that l haven't suffered any dental injury,

I think my gums are healthy, l do not bleed, my breath doesn't smell bad, l do not suffer from bruxism, extreme temperatures do not bother me.

It is not a big thing but has become and obsession, lm afraid they might drop out from one minute to another and that has made the sensation even harder, l think.

l don't wanna be crybabish and run to the dentist due to this, if the symptoms were harder l would, but it is sort of mild,

is the future consequences what worry me. Anybody else has gone through this? Right now i have fear of hard things such as apples and nuts and the like because l do feel some annoyance, though l don't know what percentage is psychological and what is real nuisance, even when l smile l feel that they get tight or move...

    Hi there,

    Just a quick update.

I have now been suffering for 18 months.

I have tried various drugs (Naproxen, Gabapentin, Pregablin, Carbamazepine), I have seen dental specialists, neurologists and even had an MRI. I have tried yoga, meditation and acupuncture. I have had several root canals on my front tooth and spent thousands on dental work in the year. X rays have rules out issues with the tooth's pathology,

Can I ask how people's pain started?

My pain is coming from my front tooth and a bit from the tooth next to it. It began the day after I had a crown fitted on a tooth on another part of my my mouth.

I also get some aching on some days on my back teeth. Wearing a splint showed bite marks on the back teeth part, providing some evidence of clenching in the night.

Some days I feel no pain at all. Some treatment that has helped. seems to be when the dentist adjusted my bite by putting in fillings behind my canines, and when I had a night splint made. It had some relief. I seem to get a period of a few really good days, and then the dull ache returns and gets worse throughout the day.

My jaw clicks and my gums are little inflamed. I think about my teeth all the time.

I have no issues with sleep.

I think my next step is to see an orthodontist. I truly think that my bite has been altered since that first treatment 18 months ago.

Some days it gets my down so much I feel utterly hopeless.

I really hope everyone gets some answers and some relief soon because this it such an awful thing to have to endure.

The toothpaste thing is an interesting one! I do brush and floss and mouthwash all the time because of the pain.I will pick up some new toothpaste to try this, so thank you Mike, for your suggestion. Anything is worth a shot!

This is very interesting because I think I know what's happening to some of you, I had the same sensation after taking corticosteroids which caused a loss of bone density in my whole body, including my face. My teeth felt very tight and constantly under pressure. My jaw even became slightly smaller. It's caused by bone loss which is shifting the position of your teeth very slowly but with big sensation. If you had braces in the past that might also be a cause as your teeth are trying to shift.

These supplements can stop the bone loss: calcium, vitamin D3, vitamin K2 MK-4, and strontium citrate.

Basically the tightness you feel is a result of the bones breaking down in your jaw and face around your teeth. This sensation of pressure goes down at night because bone formation goes up at night and exceeds bone resorption. If you take the supplements I mentioned above, your bone resorption should go down and bone formation increase.

Take these supplements: calcium 1200mg, vitamin D3 2000 IU, vitamin K2 5mg, strontium citrate 350-700mg (increase to 700 if there is still pressure at 350)

The strontium plays a big role in reducing bone resorption around the teeth and there are even studies showing it slows down orthodontic treatment.

hi Danny, I started taking the supplements you suggest, except the strontium citrate. I will buy it tomorrow though. Did your spine ever shift? oh my goodness my bones are so week Its causing me scoliosis. I literally feel my spine shifting. How long until bones start getting in better shape? Did you ever get nerve damage in your hands and feet. I feel nerve pains and numbness. cold pale feet. I also have hip pain which I know its probably Avn. This drug is killing me and I only took it for 5 days. I am 6 days post and deteriorating really fast. everyday is something new happening o

Yes I felt bones shifting in my spine, knees, and jaw. My situation is different though, because I got severe bone loss from a hydrocortisone injection (extremely rare hypersensitivity). It slowly gets better over time though because the drug wears off, so now the sensation is nothing compared to 2 years ago and DEXA scans show I even gained about 10% bone density in my spine since I started taking all the supplements including strontium.

I would also add to increase your protein intake since bones are 50% protein. I take a whey protein shake every day for this.

They prescribed me Prednisone because my eyes were swollen due to an eye infection. I am a 105 lb woman and the doctor prescribed me 40 mg x 5 days. I had some minor side effects while taking it but the day after last dose things started going downhill so quickly like I never thought was possible. The feeling of too much cortisol running through my body is unbearable, the only thing that has helped with that is Chamomile supplement. My skin is completely dried up and wrinkled. My bones are so week, my spine shifted one rib cage side is producing more. my hands and feet have nerve pains and numbness. I develop drop foot on both feet. My right heap hurts. My face doesn't feel like my face when I wash it i believe because of bone changes. my glucose is all over the place, I developed hypothyroidism, they want me to take a pill but I won't yet because I believe it will go back to normal. I read Prednisone affects pancreatic and thyroid function. I am taking Fish oil, vit C, B100 , B12 vit D calcium multivitamin vitamin k, collagen 2, Chamomile and hyaluronic acid. Thanks for replying. I fell today like my adrenal cortex is finally reactivating because, the cortisol feeling is way less today. Today is 7 days since my last dose.

Well it could either be withdrawal from the prednisone or the opposite, a hypersensitive reaction like I had. If your face is swollen and you feel extreme adrenaline and symptoms of cushing syndrome then it's most likely a hypersensitive reaction like I had. Doctors typically don't know it's possible so they likely won't be much help. If it continues you could start taking activated charcoal powder to detox the body. In my case I've started donating blood to get it out of my body and it's helped. I told them nothing about my symptoms though before I donated blood. Most cases get better within a few weeks or months, only the most severe cases take 2-3 years like mine.

My skin was also extremely thin and dried out. The good news is that now the side effects sometimes get very weak and when this happens, my skin instantly returns to normal so it's reversible.

it is definitely a hypersensitivity reaction. I got the diagnosis. mine is really severe. I am losing so much muscle and bone. I am so weak. I think recovery will be a long long time and honestly, I don't think I'll be the same ever. I am scared but taking it day by day. Everyday I deteriorate more so far. Did you ever had heart palpitations? what symptoms you still have?

    • Posted

I had all these side effects to an extreme degree, which started 2 days after the injection. I still have many of them but only like 10-20% as strong as the first month. Pressure in bones, muscle weakness, tightness in chest, fast heart rate, adrenaline, racing thoughts, pacing, unable to sleep, thin dry skin, swollen cheeks and fingers, first 2 months a lot of weight loss then huge appetite and weight gain, dry mouth.

The most pressure was in my upper jaw, felt like my teeth being sucked upwards. My upper teeth literally shifted about a quarter UPWARDS, meaning the distance of bone in my midface shrunk so less of my teeth are visible when I smile now.

And the side effects were never consistent, they constantly went up and down all day.

yeah my symptoms fluctuate throuout the day too. Today I felt a lot of jaw pain and crazy strong palpitations. I though I was going to have a heart attack but after about 3 hours they reduced in intensity. night times have been betters than day time so far probably because the unbearable adreline or cortisol rush is so strong during the day. I thank you so much for all your advice and knowledge. It's hard to find someone that understands, since it is such a rare and extreme thing we are going through.

Well these are the only possible treatments I've come up with:

-An cortisol receptor antagonist drug like mifepristone, this reduces the cells' sensitivity to corticosteroids. For me it would be impossible to get any doctor to prescribe it because the doctors thought I was making the symptoms up.

-Dialysis to filter the drug out from the blood. Also difficult to get because this is usually done for patients with kidney problems.

-Activated charcoal powder (not tablets because dose is too small). This is used in hospitals for drug overdose and is available over the counter. Binds to drugs and helps detox the body. Take a few tablespoons once or twice a day, 2 hours away from any medication or supplements.

-Blood and plasma donation. This will help remove the drug directly. Don't mention the symptoms if you do this.

hi, today I am feeling like my knee caps are loose. Did you experience that? Did they get strong again? I am so scared they are going to come out of place. My bones feel so weak and my muscles too. My arms are so wasted. How long was it until you started feeling stronger?

    • Posted

I didn't have loose kneecaps but a lot of pressure in knees. My muscles were also very weak but both those side effects went away after a few months. I took glucosamine/chondroitin to strengthen my joints.

The easiest treatment to try first is taking activated charcoal powder.

      Hi Danny,

Do you still experience adrenaline rushes? I was getting better until I went to the dentist and the injection of lidocane with epinephrine triggered all my symptoms again. I am thinking, there something else going on. I went to an endocrinologist who is testing me for metanephrine, acth and cortisol levels. I am currently waiting on the results. He mentioned the possibility of it being a type of tumor called a pheochromocytoma. if the results are high for metanephrine is probably that and he is going to order a CT scan. Have you had your hormones checked? I think it is not normal to experience adrenaline symptoms without a reason. Maybe the prednisone did not caused my symptoms, maybe the prednisone triggered my tumor to be active. I hope I don't have that type of tumor but I don't see what else could it be. Anyone who experiences adrenaline rushes for no reason should have their metanephrine levels checked.
