Left Hip Replacement is it worse than right?
Posted , 25 users are following.
On the 22nd of November I will have a total hip replacement on my left hip. This morning a friend of mine told me that I am probably wasting my time I would be using a walker for the rest of my life that a left hip replacement never does right. Has anyone heard this. I am really upset about it all..

I have one new hip 11 months old and the other three months old. I have been walking without aid two weeks after the second op, in fact a few days ago I did a little jog down the road
So don't listen to negative comments, none of the people on this forum would have put themselves through this if they thought they would be just as disabled after. Give yourself a few weeks to recover and eventually you will never look back. It's wonderful.

Thank you Gwen!!! I appreciate the great advise and for sure everyone here has been through this and knows what is going to happen. I am so ready to get rid of this pain and be able to walk again without help.. I know it isn't an overnight recovery but I am looking forward to recovery! Just getting rid of this grinding pain is a plus!

That's the biggest thing - the total loss of the old OA pain.

I had my Left hip replaced (posterior technique) 4 yrs Jan 2017, I was back to work in 7 wks (job entails bending/lifting), back to sports 3-4 months later.
I had my right hip (same technique) replaced 14 weeks ago, back to work at the 12 week mark and back to sports at the same time.
The info you received is nonsense.
Good Luck

chiming in with the choir here ... I am happy to read that you are no longer upset and looking forward to the surgery -
I had 2 THR surgeries, 1st one was right hip and 2nd one left hip 6 months later -- to have 2 new hips is wonderful -
keep sharing how you are getting on,okay -
you are not alone anymore
big warm hug

I am so thankful for this forum. You are so right I feel pretty isolated and alone. I know my friends are all tired of me saying,"this hurts!" The walker is a pain but I fall so easily. My left hip just gives out at times so I need the walker. I just feel like for the first time since this all started I am talking to people that really understand the situation..
Right now I am doing home health care for people. I only have one client 4 hours a day and she needs help but loves to just sit around and talk. After I get well I only work in the accounting field 12 more months then my house is paid off and I retire and I am so ready.

That was an easy way to put it. I do think she didn't realize what she wrote or how bad she worded it. I just know I need positive around me completely and any negative isn't good and doesn't have a place near me right now.

Let's just think about this...The only difference between your right hip and your left hip is the side of the body they are on...same skin, same bone, same blood vessels, same muscles, same nerves....
are you sure she wasn't just trying the make a joke using a play on words . left can never be right because it is left

She called me after I wrote her back and told her I was so upset by what she had said. What she said was I had complained my right side hurt. My bad hip is my left side. She says what she was saying if my right side was bad also then I was wasting my time just getting the left side done. My right side is fine just has bursitis and tendenitis from all the limping and weight shifting because of my left hip. I know everyone hurts on the opposite side after limping around for a while...just the way it is. I am disappointed she got so negative with me but I realize she has never been through anything like this so she really doesn't realize the impact of the pain and not being able to do things because of a bad hip.I am going to just move on from her bad wording!!

Well I hope she apologised! It was thoughtless at best and downright mean at worst. But she's your friend so if you can forgive her that's great. Just go out and prove her wrong!

What she meant was...I had fussed about my right side hurting and what she meant was if it has arthritis also then I was wasting my time getting the left hip done because the right is also messed up...I have bursitis and tendonitis on both sides and that is why it hurts on my right side. I don' think she meant to upset me the way she did..
