Life after gallbladder removal....

Hi,

I had my gallbladder removed 7 weeks ago, due to my gallbladder not working correctly. Although the op was laparscopic I was in so much pain I had to have an epidural. Anyway ever since the op I have been in pain, felt really sick and cannot eat!. I get excruciating pain up to an hour after food. Also if I lie down in the same position for too long and stand up that brings on the pain too. I have also found that I keep getting a bile taste in my mouth, excessive sweating and fatigue. I also generally feel 'under the weather' at least once a day if not more! After several visits to the hospital and clear test results they think I have SOD - a problem with the bile duct which may require a stent. Has anyone else had these problems after gallbladder removal and had a successful outcome? My life is a complete mess and I cant do anything apart from take pills, sleep and eat creamy food .. everything else hurts!

Hi Trex - I know it's really annoying that you put so much trust in doctors and they are not honest in return. I bet it's about saving money especially quick key hole surgery! The consultant we have now did say that maybe the pain wasn't even from your gall bladder in the first place. I am going to ask about SOOD next time, thank you. Do you reccomend any specific site for SOOD x

If the pain goes from your side to your back..that's gallbladder...I was also having chest pains. That's gallbladder also

Hi Jamie just read your post. I'm on the waiting list for gb removal.. I was interested in you having chest pain with yours as at the moment I'm having chronic chest pain as well as pain just under ribs. If you have had the op have the chest pains disappeared? I wasn't sure if pain in chest was connected to go problem. Would be good to know.

    Hi boyzmummy,

hows the boys ? lol., yeah im awight, im 3 weeks into recovering from my wrist fracture op.

Glad to know you found the information/websites helpful.

All the symptoms point to GB removal after-effects and now there doing a gastroscopy ? gastroscopy is for if you have stomach problems.

Anyway, see what they come up with

@kaylesc: yeah, after GB removal doctors just go from one assumption to another but i dunno why they dont understand these new problems are as result of having the GB taken out.

anyway, hope you the best with your appointment with the specialist

Hi Trex, I have just had my gallbladder removed the other day, albeit a bit sore after the procedure happy I'm on road to recovery. The absolute agony my inflamed gallbladder and stone caused me was unreal, so happy to have it removed. Before the procedure, the surgeon discussed with me exactly what was to happen and possible side effects after having it done! But better to try, just cause there's gallbladder issues there could also be something else underlying, however I appreciate you can only treat what u see is wrong at the time. If anyone didn't have the side effects explained then that's to do with the hospital error Not the procedure. the NHS is under strain money wise, pretty sure if they could avoid costs they would. What it's worth, everyone I know who has had it done hasn't looked back! No problems whatsoever after procedure, it's same as any situation only the people with issues shout from rooftops about it, people who have had no issues jst get on with life.

Oh no hope your wrist mends soon Trex. I think it must be to rule things out.

My last blood tests also said I had low calcium serum levels, so they are checking that again too.

yeah, thanx, im half way on the road to recovery, if i had a cast on and without the operation it would have taken double the time and i wouldnt have been able to move even my hand now. I feel relieved i had the op (was reluctant at first) because i can now already use my hand its not restricted in a cast, instead its being held internally with a metal plate and screws.

oh ok, did they say anything about vitamin D levels ? my vitamin D is low and vitamin D helps absorb calcium.

Thanks guys! MST is Morphine tablets, they are slow release over 12 hours ... Still not working though!

I wish the doctors had told me more about the complications as none of the problems I have were mentioned. I naively expected that it would be fine and I could go back to eating food and drinking beer lol The reality is I cant half as much as when I was on my low fat diet, I cant drink at all ... I havent got a life!

The annoying thing is that my results keep coming back negative ... When there is clearly something wrong with me ... The ambulance man yesterday said that I shouldnt be bringing up as much bile as I am when I vomit ... I am getting a bit desperate now I just want someone to fix me!

I think the scary thing is reading so many posts that people have been putting up with this for years .... Im only 26 my life has just begun not ended!!!

I have lost more weight this week .... im gonna end up looking anorexic at this rate!

@kaylesc I'm sorry to hear about your suffering. Looking at what the paramedic has said is right, shouldnt be bring up too much bile. Doctors wont tell you everything because the NHS is a huge industrial complex, they dont have time and you have to do your own research these days but dont worry you'll be okay soon. You are young gal and things will get better, you have a long life ahead of you.
