Livial I love you!

:D I have been taking Livial for 4 months now and it has really changed my life. At 52, and not having had a period for 18 months, I was suffering terribly with night sweats which woke me on the hour, I was totally sleep deprived and unable to function at work. I was also depressed and had absolutely no interest in sex. I can honestly say that I have not had one hot flush either during the day or night since taking it, my mood is balanced and I can't get enough sex! My weight has stayed exactly the same and my only compaint is that it is a bit expensive. I will certainly keep taking it for as long as I am able, I have done my research extensively and have found no reason to stop.

Hi all, interesting following all the communication on Livial. I too just love livial and I have been taking it for about 15 years! I am now a self funded retiree in Australia and starting to find the price prohibitive ! I too have tried coming off slowly but alas the hot flushes and night sweats have returned! Back on the livial.

however on discussion with my doctor on alternative therapy because of the price he has suggested clonidine or gapapentin or an antidepressant?

can anyone advise their experience with either of these options?

look forward to some words of wisdom whilst I ponder a decision!

My comments are below yours. I have been on Livial for 15 years and I am 70, I have a great sex life, happy attitude to life and I attribute this to that little pill I take every morning. I will be taking it until I am

no longer having sex and vaginal dryness, cystitis and all those awful problems become irrelevant

I was first diagnosed with Livial about 15 years ago. Prior to that I was prescribed HRT that included menstration. There was a huge change in the medication it immediately lifted my sex drive and still after 15 years it has this effect. A couple of times I was freighted about the reports that HRT could cause cancer and because I no longer had menopause symptoms I went off it. After 6 months I developed cystitis caused by the dryness of the vagina. I know that if I go off it now I will lose my sex drive, my vagina will be dryer, my skin will be dryer, I won't have that smile on my face everyday from a super sex life. No way will I give it up ever!! I have recommended it to so many senior women and call it my happy pill.

Dear Ladies, I am so envious of you all, who are feeling so well on TIBOLONE. I took it for around 23 years and felt so FANTASTIC during all that time. However please be aware there might be risks. Without warning apart from occasional dull tummy ache I then suddenly found blood smears on my underwear. Knowing something wasn't right I visited my GP. She sent me to see a gynaecologist in Surrey and after various examinations and tests it was discovered I had a small cancerous growth in my uterus. I had to have a total hysterectomy - ovaries and tubes included - followed by 6 weeks radiotherapy and brachytherapy.  Naturally the HRT had to been halted and very quickly all the horrible menopausal symptoms were back. Now 18 months later and at the age of 73 I am having those awful hot flushes, night sweats, anxiety and mood swings back again that I'd had at the start 50! So to you ladies taking this wonderful drug - I would say 'enjoy it' - as  I would certainly take it again if I could; it made me feel so young, vital and wonderful but please, please, do watch out for anything not quite right. I have since been told that more and more cases like mine are being presented from ladies of my age taking this particular HRT long term. Love and good wishes. LadyPink

I am so sorry to hear about your illness. It sounds like you have been through torture.  What does the manufacturer say about your illness? Do they have any statistics to share with us on the risks of using their product? I do hope they read your comments and respond. Thank you so much for sharing this with us so that we can make a choice around the risks.

I am doing well still using Livia/Tibolone, in fact I was with a Gastrologist yesterday about a digestive problem unrelated to this subject and he commented on how young I look and I told him it was because I had been taking HRT since I was 42 (I am now 71), My skin is looking good, my posture is straight,  I am maintaining my weight, my brain still works. He asked me about the product, looked it up on the internet while I sat opposite him and wrote it on his notepad and said “I have a number of women asking me about this and hormones do play a part in all areas of health and wellness”.

Apart from just popping a pill (Livial) everyday the things I have to work on this year is building up my muscles, after travelling most of 2017 I stopped going to yoga/gym and i can feel the loss of strength.  Apparently taking HRT is helpful in keeping you bones strong as they support muscles.  I am also less focused, I notice I zone out in some conversations so my concentration level isn’t as good as it was, I need to do some mental activity (like go back to work!) or study.

Good luck to everyone for 2018

      Good morning LadyPink,

i am so sorry to hear about your circumstance . I trust your GP can find you some alternative to relieve the nasty symptoms that have returned. Is clonidine, gabapentin or antidepressant an option for symptom relief? These are some alternatives that my GP has previously discussed with me.

I chose to remain on Livial whilst I can still afford it and enjoy its benefits.

Thank you for alerting us to recent  cases that are presenting similiar to yours.

so that we might be extra vigilant and monitor and more importantly not ignore any untoward signs.

on a selfish note can anyone advise what has worked for itching that I believe is associated with livial? This has been a recent development for me after 15 years on Livial, it is starting to affect my sleep and whilst an antihistamine works it makes me very groggy the next day . I feel like I have a hangover???

Any advice ladies on what is an alternative as I have no intention of giving up Livial as the pros outweigh this negative .

      thanks Jenny

      Hi Jenny,

Are you referring to vaginal itching. If so, I had an occurrence of itching and discomfort after a period of extensive sex and had to insert a topical cream to alieviate the symptoms that were similar to Thrush without a discharge. I purchased these over the pharmacy counter.

If you are referring to itchy body skin, I think this is a normal part of aging and I use Aveena body lotion. It’s the same product we used for our grandson as protection against reoccurrence of

      Eczéma.

Sorry but my guess is it has nothing to do with Livial.

Hi Christine, it is body itching mainly above my boobs and outer edges under my arms!

I will try the aveeno lotion and hope it settles.

thanks for speedy reply and suggestion. Jenny

I just turned 57 and 5 years AFTER menses ceased, I started to suffer from super radical hot flushes.  In the not so past, I always believed that hot flushes were a result of anxiety and mini panicky thoughts that confronted one’s  ‘reality’ i.e., reflections on own life, one’s successes, failures, illnesses, disappointments, unresolved grief, morbidity. Essentially these thoughts actually any that are unresolved. And these are the thoughts that often run around in circles sometimes for years and are avoided by pushing away, using alcohol drugs, excessive exercise, work, depression, and other types of avoidance activities even manifested illnesses.

Even as I write this I have a niggling thought that: if I could have mastered my thoughts I wouldn’t have needed a pharmaceutical intervention. But I’m not a nun and don’t live in a monastry.

To my gp I went and Livial was my answer. Within 10 days hot flushes ceased and I got off the couch and started surfing again but carrying extra 5 kg around I also returned to gym to loose the flabby fat that’s appeared like a new layer all over my body. I give myself 3 months to get rid of it. My friend also takes Livial - she never told me! (Why I’m writing this) And she also described similar responses about energy and positive mood shifts.

    Cheers x

This wonderful drug has also changed my life and I've only been on it a month !

I've been suffering constant hot flushes (throughout the day and night) for years now but my GP kept saying I wasn't going through the menopause as all the blood tests kept coming back negative.  I finally met with a different doctor who said, regardless of blood test results, he thought I was definitely going through it and put me on Livial.  Within 2 weeks I noticed a significant decrease in my daily flushes (which were happening 30+ a day and that's without the nigh time sweats and making my life totally unbearable.  Another 2 weeks on and I haven't had a flush in the past 10 days (AMAZING !!!).  I feel so much better in myself and people have even started commenting on how good my skin looks (even though I've always been pretty lucky and not suffered with spots etc) I feel like I've got a glow to my complexion.  I have so much more energy and used to have to have afternoon sleeps at the weekend (this hasn't happened in 3 weeks)...I just don't feel the need for them anymore.  I was initially told it takes around 3 months for the full effect of the tablets to kick in so I feel extremely lucky to have had one hell of positive start.  The only negative I could give it (if I was forced to) is I've noticed if I let my guard down (even slightly) on watching my diet....the odd little pound will creep on.....but as soon as I up my exercise a tiny bit this soon drops back off.....a very small price to pay, I feel, for getting my life back.

Obviously this drug isn't going to work wonders for everyone but there's so many different types so don't be fobbed off by your GP....keep going back until you find one that works it's magic for you.

OH and by the way.....I'm coming back as a man next time.....as if periods, PMT, bloating, Pregnancy, childbirth, saggy boobs and belly following the childbirth isn't enough...we then get hit with the menopause....any man who says we're not the stronger sex needs putting in a room full of menopausal women smile smile smile

I have just taken my first Livial tablet at 2 days post TLH BSO , (42yrs old, surgery for endo) and scanning for info i found this amazing thread from women all over the world sharing their experiences. In the hope that some of you and newbies like me will still be following / joining, I'd like to thank you for all the posts. I've read every single one! They've provided such a wealth and cross section of information and opinion that i have found invaluable. I also love the sisterhood vibe that jumps right off the page to me! Women supporting each other, across the globe, love it!

The question is will anyone join me here in sharing the experiences of the next wave of women taking Livial in the hope of all the good and none of the bad effects?
