Lump in my throat

Hi there,

For the last 3 weeks I keep feeling like there is a lump in my throat when I swallow. I can eat my food and swallow well but it feels like something is still there after I have swallowed. Sometimes, if I belch ( and that happens a lot now) it's like it disturbs this lump and I have to swallow again to settle it? It;s not a pain more a feeling and a burning throat. I am certain that wine sets it off, so I avoid it bnow. Not really been able to tolerate wine since I had my gallbladder out 6 years ago. Just want this awful feeling to go away and not to be worrying like this all the time. Does anyone know what it is? My GP has doubled my Omperazole to 2 X 10mg a day. Any advice would me most gratefully received, thank you x

      Hi sarah

i think a lot of the symptoms are very common as I'm exactly the same, you keep swallowing and it doesn't seem to budge, I don't have any problems swallowing food, just feels something stuck, do you experience nausea in the mornings?

    Hello,

I also feel the same whenever I am in social situations.

has anybody tried deep breathing for it ?

Yes I feel more anxious in social situations, I think we are all thinking so deeply about the symptoms it makes it all seem worse, breathing deeply through your nose and out your mouth is always good or counting backwards from 300, take care

      Hi

no to be honest once your feeling uptight it's hard to focus your mind on relaxing but try and really talk yourself calm, think of the most happiest place you can imagine, even if it means closing your eyes for a few moments.

      Yes suzaane,

I am agree with you on this point.

But you know sometimes Its difficult when there are people around you, you cannot give yourself a moment to recollect yourself.

I fear it maximum when I am going to eat in public.

      what about you ?

Wendy.  Please go see the Dr ask for an upper G I scope. You are having the same problems as my Mom had only we found out too late. She had stage 4 stomach cancer they kept telling her it was acid reflex.  Go get scoped it the only way they can find it in time.  I hope you get my message.  I will pray for you.  Take care.

Exactly what I have been feeling for 3 years ! Iam only 22 playing a lot of sport and pretty fit but I found that I couldn't run much and felt like a constant lump in my throat , I have tried a lot of things from doctors to going to get cameras down my throat and everything was clear as well as blood tests , I couldn't get any answers off any one and started affecting my day to day life , but one day I decided to go to the osteo therapist , as soon I walked in and told her a lot of my symptoms she sat me down and felt around my throat ! She told me there is a bone like thing that was right where I felt the lump in my throat not 100% sure what it is called but I found out mine was not sitting right which was causing all my muscle in my neck to spasm and constantly stay on which was tightening everything up in my throat and neck , which was cause lack of oxygen to my muscles which was causing me to get tired !  I have been working with her for a few weeks and am actually finally getting some results ! Which I havnt in 3 years , a lot to do with pressure points and relaxing muscles and putting this bone thing back into place , uncomfortable when getting done but it is working for me which I thought nothing ever could, she said it is very very rare but another one of her patients had it for years to and she fixed her right up , she thinks it could be something to do with a trauma to the neck or throat area as well so maybe look into that if any one feels the same

Hi Wendy. New here. I've been suffering from this lump inthe throat in Seattle sinceJuly 2013. Let me just say the ENT doctor/medic called it LPR, silent reflux, and I used omeprazole for a month and it seemed to work, but began getting the worst side effects, so I decided that only ranitadine is the only thing I could take. I have an appt on Tuesday for following up after the two years after ending up in emergency care for unable to breathe. I cut my diet, stopped drinking wine, drank water more, gave up juice as phlegm increased drastically. It's been pretty hard, coughing to clear throat, cough so hard and gasp for air that leads me to urgent care or emergency and nothing helps. They gave a steroid to reduce inflammation, but I dislike drugs. My doctor offered meds and more steroids, but I rather find a solution that will be permanent. Just before this all occurred I gave up smoking in March 2013, so I figured it was all related as side effects of becomig healthy. Funny thought, but many report quitting something and getting healthy can and does cause your body to show other things that were hidden from things that you use. I've asked about cancer but been dismissed by my doctors. I've checked my lungs, done gastrointestinal specialists and such per everyone else requests and were clear. I've checked my heart just in case as some of the symptoms overlap heart, lung, allergy, and such.

Omeprazole did work, so I will see if I can get on something else. I hope something helps. I hope everything worked for you since it's over a year since your last message. All the best.-Ti
