Maxillary sinus cyst!

Posted , 60 users are following.

Is there anybody else on here that has a maxillary sinus cyst and symptoms? I suffer with terrible headaches and facial pain, ear pain to name a few, but my ENT doctor thinks that the cyst is most definitely not the cause of my symptoms!! It's a long story but I can't begin to tell you how frustrating it is! Not being believed. I am in the U.K. and wondered if there was anyone else in the same situation? If you had it removed, what were the circumstances and who was your ENT surgeon?

Thanks in advance 😊

We have to push our GP's here in UK at times. We have to be the ones who care about our health. I have had sinus problems for a few years, Fexofenidine Dymista nasal spray works for me. I have felt recently my left nosteil was blocked. I wasn't able to breath theough left nostril. A week ago my left nosteil was sore, Also left eye was weeping, eyelid a bit swollen. I thought I had tried to blow my nose too many times. Later that evening I had pain in shoulder to neck and headache. It was roo late to phone for Emergency appointment with GP. We have to phone by 3pm and was now 4.30pm. That night I had the worst pain in the back of my head, I have ever experienced. I did not sleep that night,I needed cold flannels on the back of my head all night. I got to see GP in morning, hubby accompanied me. Gp gave me high dose of antibiotic. I ediately 100mg capsules  and two of those, one a day for ne t seven days. That first night I realised my left nostril was draining, abd lots of mucouse. It was in the morning I saw it was brown (old blood) lots of red mucouse and eventually a clot or sometging fleshy and red came fron my nose, 5 days after. I have seen a doctor the practice  and been given another stronger dose of antibiotics  500mg every 12 hours. I am breathing better out of my left nostril but still feel sore where my head hurt. I am going to have some MRI scans to get to the truth of it all. I hope you get to the botton of your nasal problems. Just thought I would give you my input too. We do have to push our doctors to help us, the NHS is great but doctors have budgets.

Hello I know you posted this months ago, but I'm going thru the same thing and my primary care doctor and ENT don't want to do anything about the cyst. They also tell me that those type of cyst do not cause symptoms. I also get headaches face pain and face pressure and eye pain, it's been a long 9 months of this I just wish they would actually help me sad

    Hello,

I know this is an old post.

Did you ever get this cyst removed and did your symptoms improve?

I had a CT scan and my ENT said I had a cyst in my left sinus and it was a "coincidental" finding and that's it.. literally walked out with nothing. I am growing to hate ENT's and their lack of concern or interest.

I have sinus pain, headaches and dizziness daily and it's driving me insane and wondering if this cyst is the reason as no amount of antihistamines or nasal sprays makes the slightest difference rolleyes

    Thank you!

      Hello!

I'm glad I found this feed! I too have a sinus cyst on the left side. It was found by accident whilst having a mri scan for constant "whooshing" I get in my ears. Pulsatile tinnitus apparently! The cyst was discovered and I was told is asymptomatic. I do not suffer from sinus problems but I do have constant pressure and dizziness in my head and this awful constant whooshing. Ent have told me there is nothing they can do and it's definitely nothing to do with the cyst.

I'm just about at the end of my tether! Been like it since August last year.

All they have done is given me a nasal spray and referred me to a tinnitus specialist 😣

Found this post while researching my symptoms. Im from the US and have a cyst that was found. I too have dizziness and constant pressure. Ialso was told emphatically that the cyst was not the problem. Been referred to different doctors with no help at all. Ive had this for 3 years. Im glad im not alone but sad nothing has been done. Im pushing to have cyst removed. Got to make my appointment and waste money on a neurologist as part of my referral. Have you had a change or gotten any help at all. I share the same agony with most folks here. Hard trying to work when falling over.

      Hi Thomas

I am still battling with ENT. I have even found a study from the British Medical journal which confirms that maxillary sinus cysts DO cause symptoms. I went armed with this to my appointment and he wasn't interested. I'm not going to give up though. I have pain every day. The bones in my face hurt so much and the numbness down the side of my nose and roof of my mouth is getting worse too. I shall keep you all posted. My next appointment isn't until November now.

I'd even pay private to have it removed but wouldn't know where to start.

I live in the USA. I have bad headaches. I went to a sinus doctor and he did a cat scan and a scope. He said my headaches were not sinus related.

He sent me to a headache specialist. The doctor said i have migraines..i dont have all the symptoms but the majority of them i do.

Today i read my cat scan report. I have a sinus cyst of 6 mm on my right side. Thats the side i get headaches and face pain on. Thats the side of my face that swells when i have a headache. Thatis the side of my face when my ear feels clogged when i have a headache.

I am so happy i read the cat scan. Calling ENT tomotrow.

I'm in Australia and I now have the same issue for the second time. First time eight years ago I was suffering dizziness and vertigo and headaches, had ct scan and there the bigger was on the left side. The ent said my symptoms are not from the cyst, I felt as if they were. Took two yeas waiting on the public health list to get surgery and finally I got it removed. My symptoms disappeared no more headaches no more dizzy spells I was normal.

Now eight years later I'm having the same symptoms, so I got the ct scan done today, the bugger is back, it says it's small, but I have all the same symptoms. Bet they make me wait years again to remove it, or say it's to small this time to be causing these symptoms. But it is this again. So yes surgery fixed it, but they can come back again.

      Hi Joanne,

Do you know why they come back??? I am getting mine removed in 1 month (I hope this will help me to get rid of pain and pressure in my cheek)

Mine came back because of an infected tooth (root canal). Had cysts removed several times, but they always came back and the last two times w awful symptoms (head pressure, dizziness for 2 yrs). No ENT ever pointed out that a tooth could be the culprit! I had the tooth removed a month and the cyst 2 days ago (they aspired it via nose cartilage) and I already feel better! I had no idea that the bugger had come back and caused all these awful sinusitis symptoms. I tried all sinusitis cures w no result. The reason was the cyst (and the tooth). Good luck!

Hi again, well I had my sinus op 3 weeks ago and at the moment I feel worse, the inflammation apparently takes weeks to settle. I've got a check up next week. I just hope it will improve 🙏

Hi Rhods!! Keep going. Sounds like you have taken a bit of a beating up in there. I had brain surgery last year and it takes a good while for everything to calm down. Here's hoping that once everything has settled down, you'll be pain free. Keeping everything crossed for you. 😊 X
