Maxillary sinus cyst!

Posted , 60 users are following.

Is there anybody else on here that has a maxillary sinus cyst and symptoms? I suffer with terrible headaches and facial pain, ear pain to name a few, but my ENT doctor thinks that the cyst is most definitely not the cause of my symptoms!! It's a long story but I can't begin to tell you how frustrating it is! Not being believed. I am in the U.K. and wondered if there was anyone else in the same situation? If you had it removed, what were the circumstances and who was your ENT surgeon?

Thanks in advance 😊

    Hi Pheeb,

Few weeks ago some water ended in my sinuses while i was swimming and soon after the extreeme pain developed in left side of my face. I couldn't eat or sleep for two days and analgetics helped only a bit.

I was using sinus flush threatement and after two days in the morning i felt something moved inside my sinus cavity. Then i managed to blow it out through the nose and it looked like a small 15mm cyst.

The pain started to go away immediately.

Hi Ante!! Wow! I bet you were super relieved after that came out! Can I ask if you knew you had a cyst before hand. And was it in your maxillary sinus cavity? I have heard that some can actually dislodge themselves or burst and then come out of the nose, which sounds like what has happened to you. I bet you're over the moon! Those 2 days of pain were worth it eh! ? 😊 I am hoping mine might do something similar! Maybe I should go swimming!

What type/brand of flush were you using?

Hi pheeb I to have an 11mm mucous cyst in my right maxillary sinus! Have vision problems, nasal pressure and popping noise in nose at night! Severe headaches and ringing in ears. Waiting an ent app! Have had symptoms now nearly a year and have had MRI and head scan which showed the cyst! I'm so upset about it all now. Was wondering if u have had yours sorted now and if symptoms have gone? Hope u have 😊

      Hi Claire!!

Sad to say I'm still waiting. Currently waiting to see ENT again and also a pain management team. I so desperately want them to just remove the cyst!! I haven't even had my appointment letter come through yet so I'm just left in limbo at the moment. Today the pressure in the left side of my face is unbearable! 😑??   I'm even looking into having it removed privately but have no idea where to start or who would consider doing this. I'm 100% convinced my symptoms would go or at least lessen after surgery. Xx how you feeling now?

I have this same problem. I try to explain to the ENT that they're not finding nothing else in my head to be causing this dizziness type out of sorts feeling . I get face pain all the time on the right side of my face at my nose bridge.I have been told I have a migraine headache's but  I have never had them prior to a year ago It seems like movement affects it some also . Like if I stretch and throw my head back .. stuff like that . The Ent brushes me off but if it's not the cyst in my nose and he can't tell me what it is, what would it hurt to eliminate it . My sister has also had one and her doctor in New York removed hers and it stopped a lot of her problems with her headaches .  She says she feels 100 times better .

      Hello,

Sorry to come in on this, but it literally describes what I have been going through for the past 2 years. Every day I am dizzy, congested, exhausted! My ENT doesn't think there is a problem with my sinuses.

A CT scan shown I have a cyst in my left maxillary sinus which the ENT said is nothing. Lately, I have been getting a lot of headaches, facial pain, balance issues so I was referred to a neuro. An MRI scan there shown I have a cyst in my sinuses (which I knew) - Now the ENT says it's harmless and the neuro says it's causing the sinus problems, congested sensation and vacuum migraines due to the pressure it creates within my sinuses by blocking airflow.

So who do you believe?! gah so sick of this

Hi pheeb! Wow I've read this whole thread and we have the same exact story with the maxillary cyst and all the aweful feelings. Except I actually had surgery, 3 surgeries  infact and I'm sad to say nothing has worked. I've been through hell over the last 3 years feeling like the surgeries have made the pain worse. So here goes.. I started to see and ENT complaining of sinus infections, pressure, pain all too often. He checked me out and ordered me to get a CT scan... then he'll read the results. Literally the next day I was in agonizing tooth pain in my upper left mollars so bad that I could not open my mouth to talk.I went to the dentist as an emergency and he saw my teeth were loose so he sent me immediately to the oral surgeon. Oral surgeon said that I could have a bad infection and the best thing to do would be to remove the two molars. So I said ok.. he put me to sleep and then took the teeth out. When I woke up he said to me wow you were in so much pain because you had a huge cyst that came draining out when I pulled the teeth out. I instantly felt better. Then the next week I get the Ct scan for my Ent and he sees that I have polyps and my sinuses are infected so he says he wants to do balloon surgery and everything will be great after surgery and I'll never have sinus issues again. So I had the sinus surgery and lest just say the pain and recovery was literally the worst thing I've ever experienced in my life. 3 months went by and I was not getting any better I actually felt worse. Talking to my oral surgeon and He said It's bc the cyst is still draining out of my mouth.talking to the ENT he's saying it's bc the oral surgeon never sewed up the whole in my gums and that's probably why I may have an infection. So one more month goes by trying every antibiotic on the shelf and nothing's working. I agree to go for another Ct scan and I have more of an infection I. The sinuses so they decide to sew the whole in my mouth up and do another sinus surgery. Let's FF four months pain is better than last time but still bad. The last surgery was oral surgery and sinus surgery. Things were better after 3 months for about 2 months then I was right back at square one almost feeling worse than before I had any sinus surgery. Before I had surgery my face never swelled up, never had throbbing pain headaches and throbbing eye pressure. My eyesore has worsened as a result and now need to wear glasses. Now this pain is only on the left side where I had 3 surgeries... I probably should have listened to the oral surgeon and just left the gums open to drain and never got sinus surgery but I listened to the ENT who ruined my life...  I've tried every medicine and antibiotic  and nothing works. I quite he doctors all together and I'm just dealing with the pain and learning to cope by using hot compresses on my face, massaging my face/eyes, sleeping on an incline pillow, icing my face for the swelling, drinking caffeine for the headaches.. and just taking Tylenol to take the edge off the pain. I'm so sorry you and all the rest of the people on here have to suffer. I'm glad to know I'm not crazy and I'm not the only one. It's hard trying to explain to people close to me the pain I feel on a weekly basis. I'm sure you understand. My advice to you would be to try and see an oral surgeon. I'm from the US by the way. Good luck with everything!!

Lau, are you saying the balloon sinus surgery did not work for chronic sinusitis? My husband is scheduled to have the in-office balloon sinuplasty on Nov. 8th for chronic sinusitis and the ENT will chip off the cyst in the maxillary R. sinus. This surgery is suppose to give 95% relief. He will take allergy shots afterwards.

Cementless, It's all very individual. I am having a surgery Nov 1, it's not a balloon surgery, just endoscopic.  It depends on the root of the problem, that's why any surgery may not work for some people. I have a cyst too and the sinus lining is inflamed, inflammation is blocking the airway to the sinuses - hence chronic sinusitis. My doctor says that a balloon surgery may not effective as all the symptoms can come back after. Anyway I hope your husband will fill better after the surgery! Keep me posted! I will also let you know how my surgery went. Best of luck!

Victoria, we do know that he has allergies to grass, dust and mold. He will be retested for those and start allergy shots too.. Our ENT said the balloon surgery is at least an 85% cure for people with allergies, 95% cure for those without. Good luck to you on Nov. 1.

Lau, did you send me a private email? I could not open it. Sorry.

Yeah, that’s all individual. I don’t have any allergies, well maybe that why endoscopic surgery will be better in my case. Thank you!

Seriously this ENT-Dentist back n forth is the most frustrating thing! It’s making me broke as well!

So I have been having sinus pain left side. Back n forth to ent who says it’s a tooth- most suspicious was tooth #15 because it looked like it had an abscess at the end of the root based on a ct scan in the ENT’s office. Meanwhile I spent the summer going to different dental specialists and because I had no tooth symptoms they didn’t see a need for a root canal and or extraction and one oral surgeon said that abscess may not even turn into anything and suggested my pain was nerve related . I was not on antibiotics much throughout my pain- because I was confused because sometimes the pain subsided and I heard if it was an infection it would be constant. Believe me I have been on more meds these past 3 years but I went months without any meds with this left sided facial pain. So I finally get tooth pulled and it was infected- no tooth symptoms because tooth was dead- so still have sinus pain. I have had an mri state I had a sinus cyst and a ct sinus scan that said possible cyst along with lower mucosal thickening. Ent says low level inflammation in sinus cavity usually means tooth issue. I also had a gum flap to close the sinus hole so that possible cyst might have drained if it was open but the oral surgeon wanted to close it up.  So I just had another tooth pulled- tooth 12 very old root canal. Still pain if not more! Wtf! Now I have post nasal drip only the left side! Been on 2 rounds antibiotics no relief. Ent says cyst shouldn’t cause pain. Oral surgeon today says I should get my sinus cleaned out. I have pain a long side of nose at times, pain when I touch under the eye, I did have balloon sinuplasty only left side. I am nervous about the under eye pain cause isn’t that close to where the bone was broken? My maxillary bone is SORE, when I turn my head at night I have sinus pain, feels full and bone sore. I have only 2 teeth left in the left side (yes sexy) and the oral surgeon noted a dark spot above root of one of the teeth so it’s suspicious yet no tooth symptoms- it did respond to the cold test so nerve is alive. Not sure if infection from tooth I extracted next to it spread to that side. I am worried about a jaw infection. So that’s where I am at. Left facial pain- back n forth dentist and ent, possible sinus cyst. Or a little blob of mucus. Was told it could be pressing on a nerve- read on other forums elsewhere that congested sinus could cause nerve pain. So that could explain some symptoms we all have. Who knows- I am mentally done. Just keep getting radiated, medicated, procedures, and no end in sight. I feel you all-

I am very glad to find this forum,  I've had chronic headaches,  pain and pressure in the head and face and around my eyes for months, also some dizziness and I feel out of it a lot. I had an MRI and they found a thickening and possible cysts in my sinus cavity, but my doctor seems to think they are not responsible for my pain and pressure.  I'm going a bit crazy over this. Now I'm wondering if the cysts are causing the symptoms.  Hard to live this way.  I'm so sorry you all are having these problems as well, but it's comforting to know I'm not alone.

For the last three months I was having pain over my left eye, some days the actual eye and all around the socket. I would wake ok it came on in the afternoon. I had been given lots of nose sprays, and the one week of antibiotics. It would go then come back. I then feeling desperate asked my doctor to give me a longer time on an antibiotic. He gave me four weeks on Clarrithromycin after two weeks it started to get better. I am now free of the terrible headaches. I had read a Dr Mirriam Stopard report that a cronic sinus infection should have six weeks of a good antibiotic. I broke my wrist the same week my headaches stopped, thank goodness they did clear up.
