Menopause - Perimenopause and Nausea
Posted , 105 users are following.
Hello Ladies, I found a little slice of information that may help some of you. I'd been dealing with horrible morning sickness like symptoms for months now. I just referred to it as nausea. My daughter, who just had a baby said "mom, that sounds like morning sickness". And she was dead right!
I'll just cut to the chase. After some research I found this page: https://suite.io/deanna-lynn-sletten/2zxy21w
Needless to say, I have been nausea free for two weeks now. (I wanted to make sure it was really working before I posted)
I recently (a few months back) started drinking coffee in the morning only as a cure for constipation. (I hate coffee) I was also only eating some almonds for breakfast and three meals a day. Well, the writer of this blog has a few tips on what to change in your daily life to help you get through this phase. I stopped the coffee and drink Ginger/Honey tea,I eat a banana for breakfast and smaller meals throughout the day. Most the writers other advice I already do.
Day one of my change... zero nausea. And everyday since for two weeks now. I'm still slightly dizzy, just slightly. But the most horrible side of it is gone. I hope this helps a lot of you too.
Best of health to you all!

It's been over a year since this was first posted but hopefully someone will see this and give me some insight. I am 51 and just started the symptoms of peri menopause. This month was the first month without a period. I noticed that several were commenting on their level of nausea. Mine is so severe some days that lasts to the point that I feel I have a stomach virus. I'm light headed and weak and unbelievably cranky to the point of feeling and looking crazy. Anyone experienced this?

Nausea is the worst . Nothing worked for me when it occurred at the start of my period .
Recently started hrt & nausea did not occur. Let's see how it goes.
Was scared of hrt but had run out of options & could not go through this every month.
Apart from nausea , anxiety was quiet bad . Not fine but better .

Hi I'm new to the forum but I'm 52 pretty sure I'm going through menopause. My periods are now like every 3 to 4 months. I get really hot then I get nausea, it's awful . But I keep plugging along. Does any one else get really hot and nausea then I cool down but still have nausea and it makes me feel really bad? And then on top of that I have IBS but that's totally different any suggestions.
Thank you
Theresa

GA to you all!
First allow me to say that I am immensely grateful for finding a forum where others seem to be able to relate to what I have been experiencing. I am 52 and have been in/out of the ER for the past 2month trying to find out what is causing my NAUSEA (never any pain) just a debilitating nausea that comes whenever and stops me dead in my tracks! I eat relatively healthy, no soda, no smoking, moderate excercise, etc., etc., Not one of the Dr's have yet to associate my extreme horrible nausea with 'menopause'.
I've had every test done imagineable including urine, culture, blood, etc.. (thankfully everything returned fine) My FP prescribed Nexum and was told I prob have IBS, and I was given Zolfran (in the ER and by my GYN). Yes, I am still getting my period so of course I am not considered in the Menopause Stage (I have skipped my period for 2months & it returned the 3rd month for 7 days! Uggggggh! usually it's 3/4)
I have found that drinking chamomile tea & fresh 'ginger' cut in boiled water is soothing.. but there are times when nothing works and I'm jus' exhausted watching the clock & praying for the bout of nausea to be over (sometimes it will hit at night after a perfectly calm day and last throughout the night til the wee hours) I have also found that taking 2 tablespoon of ACV in 8 ounces of water helps to stabiliz your Ph Balance and keeps you regular & your digestive system calm. For now I keep my meals simple/bland : toast, warm lemon water, boiled egg, yogurt, fresh vegetables (spinach) grilled/baked chicken, crackers with pnut butter, bananas and lots of herbal teas ; -)
I DO NOT take HRT and prefer to use only that which is natural as I do not want to deal with any "side effects"..
Some of you mentioned severe morning sickness with pregnancy or heavy periods (I've had 5 pregnancies and very little morning sickness and never heavy or painful periods) so I don't think there is a pattern there?
I also had test done for fibroids ( I have 2 that so small they are not relevant to my symptoms at all & will continue to drink ACV to shrink them)
Please hang in there and I hope I was able to provide some comfort by sharing what I am experiencing as well-

Well FthB, that blows Jan and my theory out of the water😁
(Nausea in pregnancy =Nausea in menapause )!😕😕

GA Jokey..
Qstn- How long have you been expernc'n the nausea & is that your only symptom?
(sorry if you've alrdy shared tht nfo)
I am trying to find natural ways to manage w/the horrible debilitating nausea... I start my day off with warm lemon water, toast, oatmeal then Im sur to nclude raw ginger boiled in water by mid afternoon.. but sometimes no matter what.. it gets the best of me and sometimes will last throughout the evening with a 'low-grade' level of queasiness-
Dont mean to be longwinded with my input/response but I have been dealing with nausea and running bck/forth since Jan w/no one even hinting at possible 'Peri' & everytime I asked if NAUSEA was a symptom I was told NO... It's so sad that only 'hot flashes' seems to be addressed as a viable relation to menopause- ;(

Hi, sorry I took so long to get back to you, went to bed (don't know
why I bother)😕then have been busy today. I am getting the nausea
now, not every day but quite regularly. This is definitely a symptom
of menapause. Sorry to tell you but I have had many symptoms and
am still getting some. I have ginger biccies which helps but there
are lots of other ginger things to try like tea, ginger ale (that is not
alcoholic )etc.
It is difficult coping with all these things, but you will get through it
and you have all of us now to help you, anything you want to know
just ask and I am sure one of us ladies will know something or
have a remedy.
I am 56 and postmenapausal and I am still standing! Like I am always
saying on here be good to yourself have a little treat now and then
it will make you feel a bit better.
My best regards to you

Good Day Abijah!🌹..
I did not get a chance to follow all of the recent comments that you have made... Yes IBS is [unfortunately] the diagnosis the [ole skool Doc] givs when they are not familiar w/the bloating and digestive problems many suffer w/as a symptom in peri or menopause-
I have been managing AMAZING well! I choose to do things the NATURAL way and will offer any advice I possible-
I suffered w/nausea, ear tingling, lump in throat, heart palpitations, cold feet/hands, panic attacks, horrible low depressed feelings of gloom, digestive issues.. etc.,
Age 53 [still gettn a reg cycle]😔😔😔

...allow me to add tht I did have to cut the cord with my OLD gyn [I was her patient for 20 yrs] and find a more modern Dr familiar w/the many many symptoms of peri [please believe NAUSEA is a very real symptom]..
I did find in all my many test performed and ER visits that my [VIT D level was very LOW]
I advise ALL to get your level checked and if need be address it!👍🏼- Vit D is like a hormone in our body. . It's such a simple fix but, if it's LOW or Deficient can cause:
Depression, Muscle Aches, Anxiety, Mood Swings, Extreme Fatigue, Etc., Ugggggh! the list goes on!
Wishing you all better health!💕

Many many thanks for your prompt response. Em! It's been very very tough for me. Today I have been feeling very light headed. Checked my BP and its normal. I have decided not to use hormonal therapy but to go natural. Truly I am very grateful for your response quite encouraging

Abijah, sorry for the delay in responding.. Once I found out that my many symptoms were due to 'peri'.. I sought to find relief through all that was natural-
A while ago on this forum I shared the changes/additions I made in my diet:
Blackberries for Brain Fog
Raw ginger & Ginger tea for Nausea
Chamomile tea for anxiety!!!!!
Baby Spinach w/Orange Juice Smoothie for A boost of ENERGY👍🏼
Slice of toast w/peanut butter
I drank lots of lemon water daily-
I cut out ALL soda or sugar drinks
I didn't have much energy to walk or exercise in the begining, but I started walking 2 miles [It was VERY good for my mental/anxiety😉] I would be crying and walking at the same time lol!..
My worst symptom was NAUSEA .. I had it EVERY day sometimes😔😔😔 so bad I had to just lay down and not move. It could last for hours or come and go.. It was absolutely HORRIBLE!
I suffered with cold feet hands, muscle soreness, lump in throat, etc., I still believe all of my symptoms were exacerbated by my Vit D being deficient.
The only thing I suffer with at this time are menustral cramps or headaches or bloating [My cycle has a mind of its own]
fyi: I take fish oil, Vit d3, ferrous sulfate on a daily basis.
Hope this helps💕💕💕

I also drink hot freshly squeezed lemon tea with raw ginger in every day. I take Vitamin D (must be in liquid form) as well.
I'm also on bio identical hormones eostrogen, progesterone and testosterone. Plus I take DHEA as my adrenal gland function was rock bottom and your adrenal gland manages all the other hormones so it's important to get that functioning properly. I now feel like my old self after 3 years of exhaustion. My hormone tests came back as fine but my symptoms were obviously perimenopausal. I think doctors don't take into account the lack of information regarding what level your hormones were previous to becoming menopausal. Mine were obviously naturally higher than the 'normal' window.

Please have you lost some weight cos I have. When I discussed with the Gastroenterologist she explained its because am not eating well as in the past and also warm lemon juice I take twice daily can attribute to it. She explained that lemon aids weight loss. Sometimes I feel great oh no sometimes it's horrible. Today I feel awful. I have taken ginger tea and also raw ginger am not feeling great. My gastroenterologisit is unperturbed as all results show am fine. Well as adviced I must look for a workable diet.

Awwwww so sorry to hear that today is not a good day for you... I truly feel for you💕
Don't panic too much over the weight lost ..the nausea makes it very difficult to eat-
When you do get the urge to eat, make the most of it -
Try oatmeal in the morning.. keep foods like: cold ginger ale, toast w/pnut butter.. fruit [blackberries, avocado, banana] nearby & eat small portions at a time-consuming
Sip warm tea [chammomile].. lemon water will curb your appetite, this is true [try drinking the cold lemon water when you are NOT nauseous]
A few peppermints dissolved in hot water helped to settle my stomach as well-known
Try not to stress.. if you can relax and watch your favorite movie to distract time it may help [I love watching Disneys FROZEN] 🤗
Tomorrow will be an AWESOME Day for you![hugggz]💕
