Menopause - Perimenopause and Nausea

Hello Ladies, I found a little slice of information that may help some of you. I'd been dealing with horrible morning sickness like symptoms for months now. I just referred to it as nausea. My daughter, who just had a baby said "mom, that sounds like morning sickness". And she was dead right!

I'll just cut to the chase. After some research I found this page: https://suite.io/deanna-lynn-sletten/2zxy21w

Needless to say, I have been nausea free for two weeks now. (I wanted to make sure it was really working before I posted)

I recently (a few months back)  started drinking coffee in the morning only as a cure for constipation. (I hate coffee) I was also only eating some almonds for breakfast and three meals a day. Well, the writer of this blog has a few tips on what to change in your daily life to help you get through this phase. I stopped the coffee and drink Ginger/Honey tea,I  eat a banana for breakfast and smaller meals throughout the day. Most the writers other advice I already do.

Day one of my change... zero nausea. And everyday since for two weeks now. I'm still slightly dizzy, just slightly. But the most horrible side of it is gone. I hope this helps a lot of you too.

Best of health to you all! biggrin

I'm glad I found this forum. I'm 53 and in the perimenopausal stages. My period only started becoming irregular a little over a year but just yesterday morning was the first day I started feeling nausea. I was in my 4th day of menstrual cycle. I thought that maybe because I took advil and didn't take water quick enough but that never happen to me before. I was driving and I had to hurry off the highway to stop and get water. I really was on the verge of vomiting. I got to work and even after drinking water, I was still feeling nausea. After it calmed down, it started again last night. That's when I started researching online. I just assume that maybe it was a symtom of perimenopausal. This was a symtom I never heard anyone experience before. I just feel better knowing. From now on, I will just listen to different tips. I already tried the ginger tea with honey. Once my cramping stopped, I felt better. Normally I'm very on top of taking ibuprofen before the onset of cramping.

I'm 48 and I've been suffering from "morning sickness" for the last 4 months. (I had morning sickness just like it with my second child for 5 months of the pregnancy). It's been getting worse and has been very debilitating, just moving was setting it off. Friends had told me it was a symptom of the menopause and I have missed some periods and have had two periods in one cycle quite a few times.

I had an appointment with a gastroenterologist in November about something else and mentioned it to her. She decided to do an endoscopy (camera down the throat) and low and behold it turns out I had inflammation of the eosophagus and stomach. She put me on antacid pills and within a week the nausea had gone (Gaviscon just as good). I was convinced it was the menopause and when I asked her why it had happened, she said it's just my age and the flap between your throat and stomach gets weaker!  Just to clarify, I had no other symptoms, indigestion or acid reflux, just bad nausea.

I don't doubt that nausea is a symptom of the menopause, the hormones are in disarray just like they are in pregnancy so it makes sense, but if I hadn't had that procedure I would still be feeling awful so I just wanted to highlight a possible cause and let people know that however young we feel, our bodies are getting older and there is wear and tear!

I found this site before I had my diagnosis and was relieved to read everyone's views. I'm sure I will revisit it over the next few years for help and advice!

I'm 56 years old. Have had Ibs forever. Was totally vomiting for 3 months during my pregnancy.  Have always gotten. carsick, sea sick, airplane sick and any other motion sick. Been in menopause for 4 years. Have suffered from nausea, slight headache and bloated on and off for years. But recently hormones are changing and getting these symptoms more often and lasting longer. Hot flashes a bit worse. Gastric says I'm fine.. Gyno says these aren't menopause symptoms. Which I believe is bulls**t!! Hormones control every function of the body.  Thinking of asking Gyno to crank up the hRT cream. So sick of this. Gonna try the ginger but it didn't help during pregnancy.  Thanks for all the info. Just great to know Im not alone.

Hi Ladies, so glad I'm not imagining this awful nausea!  I'm 49 in March and still have regular periods which are usually a few days early..  last Thursday on my way home from the o2 my nausea started followed by flushes and the migraine. It was so bad I Really thought I'd caught a bug as work at school..  was so nice to get off the tube into the cold air.. I msg my friends who are also similar ages and they confirmed their nausea started just before they missed a period so guess I'm heading that way too!  I had awful nausea and travel sickness all the way through when pregnant both times right up until I gave birth so guess I'm looking at a long nausea stint! :-(.   I wake most nights with flushes now so sleeping through is a thing of the past!  I find it helps eating smaller portions and wonder if that's because my digestive system is tired from lack of sleep so struggles to digest and causes nausea??  Bye for now

Hiya am so glad my boyfriend found this thread I really thought I was losing the plot the nausea started two weeks ago roughly and at first thought was just a tummy bug that bizarrely went away in the afternoon only to come back in the evening (mental isn't it how we rationalise it ) .

I also had missed two periods in a row other ones been intermittent then this sickness and tiredness that just took me off my feet has really rocked me and the attitude of doctors well the last female one was very dismissive of me wanting to try HRT saying it only helps if u have hot flushes and mine have only occurred when I had the nausea and put them down to part of the bug I thought I had .

Now at least I know what's prob going on and just to cap it all periods started again and it's a full one eventually took almost a week to get there mind but least sickness not happened tonight as yet one day at a time I reckon is all I can do

I also thought mine was a tummy bug as work in a school... felt so sick travelling home on the tube and then the flushes, itchy ankles and to top it all a migraine which I have never suffered from before!  I felt exactly as I did when I was pregnant ...  the nausea wore off slowly during the week thank goodness but the migraines wake me in the night and then disappear again!  I haven't as of yet missed a period, am just a few days early but friends tell me I'm heading that way...I hope you are feeling better..xx

Hi how did I deal with the nausea well me personally I didn't really I tried camamille tea ginger biscuits er smaller meals to the point I thought I was going mad and then I started my period and the sickness eased I was so relieved till I had a 3 week period 😧😧am not kidding thought it wasn't gonna stop had headaches too and generally felt crap but no sickness and since then had a couple of flutters of nausea but nothing bad but have no idea when next period is coming and whether there will be nausea again think if I remember right the ginger biscuits helped the most out of all of it and no caffeine xxx

Hi. I found that have a quick 20 min cat nap once back from work helped the nausea as when you are tired the digestive system struggles so can cause nausea..  made myself some strong flavoured ginger biscuits and also found gaviscon worked too... it's eased off in the last few weeks but no doubt it will return as had all the way through both pregnancies until I gave birth!  I've also noticed that my sense of smell is much more sensitive too! I'm still every 24 days give or take a few and am 49 next month... most of my friends have either finished or are missing periods... Let me know how you get on!   X

Yep isn't it am at the stage now where I just want them to stop had enough have spoken to my bone consultant and they agree with me that I need to go on HRT so hopefully that will help dunno about whether it will have any effect the nausea hopefully it will xx

Going to take Gaviscon before bed now. Hoping to see GP next week to have a blood test to see if menopause has started. Think I will try the nap after work on Monday or at least a early night. Really appreciate any advice on here. Its funny as my body feels like it is in a monthly without any loss!!...coming back as a man next time . Thanks once again
