Menopause - Perimenopause and Nausea

Hello Ladies, I found a little slice of information that may help some of you. I'd been dealing with horrible morning sickness like symptoms for months now. I just referred to it as nausea. My daughter, who just had a baby said "mom, that sounds like morning sickness". And she was dead right!

I'll just cut to the chase. After some research I found this page: https://suite.io/deanna-lynn-sletten/2zxy21w

Needless to say, I have been nausea free for two weeks now. (I wanted to make sure it was really working before I posted)

I recently (a few months back)  started drinking coffee in the morning only as a cure for constipation. (I hate coffee) I was also only eating some almonds for breakfast and three meals a day. Well, the writer of this blog has a few tips on what to change in your daily life to help you get through this phase. I stopped the coffee and drink Ginger/Honey tea,I  eat a banana for breakfast and smaller meals throughout the day. Most the writers other advice I already do.

Day one of my change... zero nausea. And everyday since for two weeks now. I'm still slightly dizzy, just slightly. But the most horrible side of it is gone. I hope this helps a lot of you too.

Best of health to you all! biggrin

I am heading into my 5th year of perimenstral nausea. Some days are worse than others...have been pretty crappy for the past 5 days had to miss a day of work it was too gross. I am on birth control to help it which it does as before everyday was awful. I am grateful we have a menopause clinic here in Edmonton but it has taken almost a year to get my consultation appointment. I am unable to use ginger as it gives me wicked gerd. I was one of the lucky ones with my pregnancies and had very little nausea but paying the piper now. My only solice is a friend of mine had it for 5 or so years then it went away when she finally hit menopause. Eating small meals is the only thing that helps me...and sipping water.

I am 42 and have debilitating nausea and vomiting, hot flashes, night sweats and I still have monthly cycles. I have Hashimotos, Fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis. The nausea and vomiting is so severe that I frequently miss work and social activities. I have had numerous test from MRIs to MRCPs with no luck in finding anything wrong. I believe all this to correlate together but medical professionals haven't. This has been going on for 10 years and becomes very depressing. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated, as this is causing problems in numerous areas of my life. Thanks to anyone who may be able to help.

Hi Amy, have you tried using bio identical progesterone cream? I had the same nausea 24/7 and it is 90% gone now that I use the cream. It must be the natural one though, not synthetic. xx

Please can you explain more about the bio identical progesterone cream. Am asking because my specialist has strictly warned me about the use of hormonal treatment as it has serious adverse effects in the future

Hi, I did ask my Naturapath about negative effects and he said there aren’t any unless you already have high levels of progesterone and you then use too much on top of that. I also researched on the internet and only found one really negative report. I felt so ill that I had to try it regardless. I couldn’t function properly on a day to day basis. For the first ten days of using it I felt a little worse, but then sooo much better.

This is an awesome piece of information which has quelled all my anxiety. I am 53 years old now and now in menopause. My nightmare journey commenced this year August that 2 months after my 53rd birthday. However prior to this time when I was 49 years old just 3 months to my 59th birthday, I woke up one morning vomiting. I ended up in hospital and was told I had thyphoid. I was on a one day admission. This repeated itself about 3ce in subsequent years I was treated with antibiotics. But oh no in march 2017 I was not too well did urine MCs and was found to have UTI. I was treated. In August I now had UTI I was admitted and well treated. Funnily the journey of nausea had gradually begun in march and got worse in August. Could not eat no appetite. Began to loose weight. I had to see a gastroenterologist. I was asked to take motilium for 5 days while i did all tests pelvic abdominal scan, tumor markers of all sorts, hiv, diabetes, kidney functional tests, liver functional test, thyroid test, thankfully to God everything was normal. I recently did endoscopy still normal. This gave me peace. The gastroenterologist concluded it was a menopause challenge but annoyingly my gynaecologist thinks otherwise. My specialist has been great and linked me to this site.

Truly truly this site has helped me tremendously. The ginger tea has helped me. I take it 2ce daily morning and night also I chew a little piece of raw ginger from time to time. My specialist has adviced I keep a diary of all my experiences because sometimes am thrown off balance with the nausea. All she wants to establish is if its cyclical like the menses or it just cones randomly. I have not seen my menses this year. I have been strictly adviced by the specialist to look for a working diet (bland), reduce oily foods, eat alot of fruits, drink plenty of water.

Another information, the gastroenterologisit warned me against any hormonal treatment because of its serious adverse effects in the future. So i have closed the chapter on hormonal therapy

Abijah,  he is a stomache dr. Not a gynecologist! There is no proven research that HRT hormones have negative side effects. It’s identucak hormones to the ones you lose in menapause . Not synthetic. Please go to a specialist before making decision, not only do I feel so much better, no headaches, nausea, horrible stomache issues but my sex life has been crazy awesome!!!  Tell her Alex!!

Many thanks for this. My gynaecologist is also objecting to the hormonal therapy. What is even getting me worried is that my gynaecologist does not believe that the nausea symptoms have any thing to do with menopause whilst the Gastroenterologist thinks otherwise. I now ask the gynaecologist what is wrong with me and all he says nothing I'll get over it. I seem to be having more help from the gastroenterologist who linked me to this forum and has been a great source of encouragement. Something I have taken away this morning whilst reading the old chats by others is taking banana vis low potassium, Gaviscon. Am not a banana person but I will need to include that in my diet immediately

Sorry please I notice Eva Sevral no longer responds to chats. I sent a chat for the first time yesterday.

I was also told my nausea, fatigue, headaches etc were from stress or depression. Luckily I found this forum by chance and that is how I learned my symptoms are hormonal. I then found my fabulous Naturapath who is also a qualified medical doctor, who confirmed it. If you don’t like bananas, you can eat avocados and sweet potatoes, they are also rich in potassium.🤗

And please don’t close the door on hormone therapy! I understand if you don’t want to use estrogen as there are links to cancer etc. but progesterone can only make you feel better. I don’t usually take any form of medication at all, but I felt so awful that I couldn’t function so I gave natural progesterone cream a try and now I’m so much better

Hi Alex the progesterone cream you take how does it work and is it on prescription?
    • Posted

Hi Amanda! It started to help my insomnia straight away but a couple of my other symptoms got a tiny bit worse for about 10 days. I can honestly say that after 2 weeks I felt like a different person. I have it on prescription as we can’t get it over the counter in South Africa x

      Go to a menapause specialist.

      Your gyno sounds useless.

      Hi Amanda

Ditto what Alex said, my insomnia improved and it took 2 weeks to start feeling normal for the first time in 3 years. I see my doctor every few months and she has raised the progesterone level both times. The estrogen and testosterone are very low amounts. Here in the UK you have to pay privately for bio identical hormones. Progesterone is known as the happy hormone!  It’s a personal decision and everyone will have their own reason for taking hormones. I felt my family needed me to be functioning properly which I wasn’t, kids are hard work at the best of times and I need all the energy I can get.

Hi jo.  How old are you?  And can you stay on the progesterone indefinitely?  Is it an everyday cream?  Or what method?  Thanks

Hi Alex.  Which symptoms got worse for a few days?
    • Posted

Fatigue and general unwell, nauseous feeling. Now I’m about 90% back to normal. Hormones fluctuate so I do have slightly better or worse days every now and then, but overall I’m great!

Hi, I’m 48 and the progesterone cream will tide me over until menopause goes (I will have yearly blood tests). I rub the cream onto my inner arms twice a day. I was offered a little square pill that has to dissolve in your cheek but you can’t eat or drink while it dissolves which takes half an hour so I chose the cream instead.
