Menopause - Perimenopause and Nausea

Posted , 105 users are following.

Hello Ladies, I found a little slice of information that may help some of you. I'd been dealing with horrible morning sickness like symptoms for months now. I just referred to it as nausea. My daughter, who just had a baby said "mom, that sounds like morning sickness". And she was dead right!

I'll just cut to the chase. After some research I found this page: https://suite.io/deanna-lynn-sletten/2zxy21w

Needless to say, I have been nausea free for two weeks now. (I wanted to make sure it was really working before I posted)

I recently (a few months back)  started drinking coffee in the morning only as a cure for constipation. (I hate coffee) I was also only eating some almonds for breakfast and three meals a day. Well, the writer of this blog has a few tips on what to change in your daily life to help you get through this phase. I stopped the coffee and drink Ginger/Honey tea,I  eat a banana for breakfast and smaller meals throughout the day. Most the writers other advice I already do.

Day one of my change... zero nausea. And everyday since for two weeks now. I'm still slightly dizzy, just slightly. But the most horrible side of it is gone. I hope this helps a lot of you too.

Best of health to you all! biggrin

Also, has anyone tried Black Cohosh for symptoms? Vitamin store guy recommended it but haven't tried it yet

Hi susan. Yes, this forum is a lifesaver! It’s how I found out I was in perimenopause after years of suffering. My symptoms are mostly better after using bio identical progesterone cream. No estrogen though as my symptoms are from low progesterone/estrogen dominance. Black Cohosh is also for if your estrogen is low as well. Chaste Berry is for low progesterone :-)

    I’m 34. Experiencing similar probs.

At 21, went to Dr for symptoms I chalked up to depression/anxiety. Zero sex drive, sweating enough to dampen my hair, exhausted constantly.

Dr drew lab-told me hormonal levels looked liked a woman going through menopause. Put me on an anti-depressant and birth control.

    They helped  for a while.

1-2 yrs ago, new things started...have cycled through thinking I have some horrible disease, to thinking I’m nuts.  Scary heart racing/palpitations, exhaustion, anxiety, spotting, light headedness..all has seemed so random though.

Back to a Dr...they drew lab & my hormones were fine.  (When the Dr did it in my early twenties it was in relation to my menstrual cycle. Not just a random day?) Vit D was 14rolleyes

Got refered to cardiologist bc HR was 180 one day in there. No big solutions though.

Have figured out much of this is somehow related to my period. Newer is the Nausea...so strong I’ve taken a  few pregnancy tests over six months, despite having a tubal.  All worse for 7-14 days before my period. Once it starts, the nausea specifically, improves a lot. Never thought about whether the heart racing was related. Periods feel like bleeding to death, (Way different then a few years ago.)

I go a month or two and things seem more tolerable. Then have months where it all feels life-altering.

Anyway, Sorry for the novel!! Helps to run across people experiencing things that are relatable. Just out of possible solutions at this point.

Hi Lyndsey, everything you said is the same with me. Heavy periods, anxiety etc. Embarrassingly enough i actually went to the ER one night because I thought I couldn't breath and was having heart palpitations and of course nothing was wrong. Not one doctor/ person said , you might be starting menopause. Just know you're not alone and it will pass.just hang in there.lol

Hi, Sorry you have had so many symptoms, I am having a bad go also . I am wondering if you ever found anything helpful?

Hi all....I’ve just started menopause. My symptoms are constant right sided headache, nausea, tinnitus  & fatigue. I got this 4 months ago, was better and now it came back. Does this sound familiar to anyone. My doctor has no answers for me ??. I’m very concerned.

Hi Janett, I had all but the tinnitus and my doctors also had no answers except antidepressants! Luckily I found this forum and realized what it was. I then found a good Naturapath who prescribed me bio identical progesterone cream which has been an absolute lifesaver. Potassium also eases the nausea a lot, so I drink coconut water daily and if I can’t find any, I drink an electrolyte drink. Our electrolytes get out of whack from our hormones. I hope this helps xx

thank you for posting on here. i truly appreciate your advice. i am 53 and going through horrid nausea and associated anxiety. so helpful to hear that others have it too - my doctors (ive tried 2different GPs ) wont believe it is menopause but i feel like it is hormonal because it feels just like the morning sickness i had when pregnant. my life line is reading forums like these to know i am not alone. yes, i have had many tests - bloods, scans, all normal and i am an 'intelligent' health professional myself (don't feel like it anymore actually) - last period 9 months ago. bloods showing post menopausal. i cant do HRT because of breast CA 16 years ago. thank you everybody. i will try potassium. i am nervous of the bio identical progesterone cream but it sounds good.

I Tried to access the website you included in your post but it looks like it’s no longer available.  Can you Elaborate on the steps provided in that link or your personal incorporations?  I am so grateful to find this discussion, My Dr’s told me I was crazy and prescribed me an anti depressant and sent me on my way.  I was 99.9% positive I was going thru perimenopause.  The nausea is dibilitating and so frustrating.  Is anyone taking natural supplements besides ginger?  I have been taking Vitex for almost 8 months, magnesium for 1 and just incorporated Ashwagandha.   So far the Vitex has helped regulate my cycle (less bleeding, less frequent, less days) but the anxiety and nausea sets in at the end of my bleeding and holds on for at least a week before I feel normal again.  Is anyone else experiencing this pattern?  Anyone using any natural remedies that are working?  Thank you all for posting here, I feel like I’m not floundering out here alone anymore smile

Alot of women experience nausea at this phase because of digestive issues that are acquired during [peri/menopause] gerd, IBS, or HH aka Hiatal Hernia ..the smallest tear in our stomach lining allows stomach acids to escape which causes the nausea. HH does not always require surgery, but a change in diet eradicating spicy foods, or unhealthy fats is most often recommended-

Exercises to strengthen your stomach muscles is a plus-

Dr's may sometimes prescribe prilosec for the stomach acid & zofran for nausea-

I chose to do all that was natural as a healthier solution til' it subsided..

      Best of health! 💝

Thank you.  I do have a prescription for Zofran and it doesn’t help at all.  Everything I’m reading contributes the nausea to the lack of progesterone and increase in cortisol that is trying to make up for the crazy spikes and dips of estrogen.   I eat extremely clean and have for at least 2 years now.  Nothing processed, all organic, only sugar from fresh fruit, very few carbs, lots of green leafy vegetables.  I work out 3 days a week, mostly aerobic and core. Meditate and stretch daily.   I have just started a new organic vegetable protein powder with probiotics.  I’ve read a ton about gut health and anxiety.  But these symptoms turn on and off like a switch.  I’m normal for 2 weeks and as soon as my heaviest bleeding day finishes it turns on for about a week.  In the beginning my cycles were every 14 days and lasting 10-12 days on top of the nausea and stomach issues. Luckily it seems like the Vitex has helped regulate my cycle and the occasional hot flash I was getting.  I would love to stick with natural thru the change and stay away from hormone therapy, bring on the natural suggestions!

Yes, sticking with a healthier diet is superb as our diet is 75 % & excercise is the other 25% to aid in keeping us balanced.. Zofran addresses the surface part of nausea, but the 'root of the nausea' must be addressed-

Some health experts recommend 5 days of excercise w/a minimum of 30 minutes-

As we age our ovaries release fewer hormones. FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormones) & LH (Luteinizing Hormones)..these are responsible for regulating our estrogen, progesterone & testosterone which in turn can alter our hormones.. our sexuality, mental and emotionally, our bones & oh SO Much more regarding our well being-

It's imperative that we keep our hormones balanced & this can be tricky since [peri/meno can cause fluctuation]

I personally take a shot of diluted acv daily to keep my PH balanced & I have found that MACA organic powder works wonders & is an AWSOME aid in my daily function and stability!💝

2,000 daily Fish Oil as well-

I hav found that nausea.. though not acknowledged by many Dr's is a huge symptom tht we woman sufferer with during this phase.. ginger, etc merely assists in coping with it-

Early on I was told tht nausea was caused by 'the cervix being disturbed or bumped'..

I discovered that was not so.. as laying perfectly still the debilitating symptom still plagued me-

Research lead me to get an endocopy & I cleaned up my diet and incorporated 5 days of excercise..

I find it beneficial to keep an eye on my levels vit d, feritin, potassium, etc., as well!

      Best of health 💝

Thank you so much for all of this info.  I can try stepping up my exercise although when I feel nauseas it’s so hard to motivate myself.  My husband takes Maca and has been telling me for years to take it.  Lol. What brand do you use?  He gets his on eBay and I don’t feel like the brand he takes is great.  I have always taken a bit D supplement, but stopped after reading that with my location and sun intake I am getting plenty? My numbers are pretty steady around 27.  I will look up Feritin?  Haven’t heard of that... it is so strange to me that so many of us experience nausea as a symptom and the Dr’s aren’t keen on it.  Thank Goodness we have each other smile I really appreciate you taking the time to reach out to me.  Have a wonderful day

I truly sympathize.. NAUSEA can make it so difficult to cope-

Your husband uses MACA [smart man🤗] I dont have a brand to recommend as I too use Amazon and an ORGANIC POWDER [teaspn daily for a week then tablespn daily] you can adjust the dosage to your liking-

There are several MACA roots, some for specific gender, etc.,

Keep in mind Vit D3 acts like a hormone and aids in more than just healthy bones.. The suggested range is 20-100-

Unless you are a lifeguard or spend your days sunbathing our range is prob not 100. Drs will give you a pass as long as you are not deficient, but 'lower levels' may cause us to experience depression, muscle aches, anxiety, hair loss etc., so I opt to stay on the higher scale (taking 2,000 d3 daily)

Sounds like your diet is awesome, so with MACA & A littl more excercise you should be good to go!💃🏽

I encourage you to continue in all that is natural as HRT [& the cancer/ stroke possibility] is not worth the risk IMO-

I am confident that I/we will defeat this most trying phase & journey of our life and come out victorious and have a fulfilling life!

      Sendn all that is positive

      & Best Of Health💝
