I had my first treatment on Tuesday and I am miserable with the burning and itching. Is this normal? How long will it last and what did you use to help?

Hi, I am sorry to hear that, perhaps it is because it is your first treatment, maybe the second one will be better!

Maybe you could try some natural remedies, I often get creative, and I think in your shoes I would dip a tampon in some pure Aloa Vera, insert it into my vagina, and then immediately pull the tampon out, so that the Aloa Vera has coated the soft muscosa inside your vagina.  I cannot think that would do any harm, but maybe someone that has had this treatment has a better idea.  I hope you get some relief soon.

I have tried the Lidocaine he gave me which numbs it for about 20 minutes. My discomfort is all on the outside labia and just at the entrance to the vagina which is where the majority of my atrophy was. I'm hoping that since that area was treated the issues I'm having are directly related to the treatment. It's been 48 hours and I'm hoping a warm bath tonight will help. So far I am not having the experience I had hoped for.

I am betting that the issues you are having are related to the treatment, it is early days after all, and I would imagine that it is just very sensitive now, and I think it will settle down, a bath sounds like a good plan, I would put a lot of salt water in it.  Incidentally I am hoping to try this treatment sometime next year.

      Hi,

i only had treatment on the vulva, I was given PRP and a topical antibiotic to use for two days. I was also prescribed cetaphil to help but I didn't like this product myself.

i found that everything was calmed down by 5-7 days.

Samantha, what is PRP?  Did you have a problem with itching? How long before everything calmed down?

      Hi Hillary,

PRP is platelet rich plasma which they used to wash down the area after the treatment. Promotes healing.

i had a mild problem with itching, all symptoms seemed to disappear 5-7 days after the treatment. Even the area I was advised where I had the vulvodynia has calmed down. It's been about 5 weeks or so now. Next treatment is 10 January. So far I'm happy with the results and some days forget I have LS 😊

I guess different doctors have different ideas of aftercare.

have things started to calm down now?

yes the skin is not itchy and a better colour but i doubt i will ever be able to have intercoarse again unless i can afford surgery which my husband is not keen for me to go through as i have already had surgery 10yrs ago

Do you think vaginal atrophy or LS has caused that?

was the surgery for the same issues?

I'm not sure if age plays a factor, I'm 45.

the good thing is your husband appears to be very understanding 😊

I've has a hysterectomy and also gallbladder surgery, surgery as I'm sure you know is unpleasant no matter what type.

I just had my first treatment yesterday (cost: $3000 for 3 treatments) - aside from slight burning sensation the first few hours, I have no other symptoms so far. My Dr did inside but tried to do a little outside, however outside was too painful for me and we stopped - she said she will do outside on the second treatment after applying numbing cream - she told me NOT to take a bath or have intercourse or even exercise for 2-3 days - I am sure you have already taken your bath! Curious to know how it went?!

I had my third treatment last month. No bladder infections since. So far has been a life changer. Not using HRT cream and pain free

      Hi Hillary,

I am wondering how you are doing now. I had my first treatment yesterday and so far no bad symptoms - my Dr wants to do outside area on the second treatment and I'm a bit worried it will hurt and burn as it did during the first treatment when she tried a couple on the outside and we had to stop (without numbing cream). I also read that if a person has had the herpes virus before, this could flare it up - my Dr said that if you've had herpes and before treating the outside area, one should take an anti-vital pill a day before the procedure so the laser therapy doesn't trigger a flare up. Just thought I mention this for everyone to know in case they didn't 😊

nancy, have you been able to have sex since this treatment?  Would you say it has made a big difference, as the only way I would put myself through the stress of having the mona lisa touch is if in fact sexual relations are better afterwards.

My issue was uti infections. Sex doesn't matter to me but that said did once after second treatment and had no pain. Hope it works for u

Hello, I have vaginal atrophy and just committed to 3 treatments of MLT. My Dr mentioned that afterwards, I would still need to do something like, hormone creams, or excercises. I am already in that position. I was really hoping it would help with terrible discomfort I have experienced during sex. I am actually thinking of changing my mind, since this isn't the magic bullet I was hoping for. Have you finished your treatments? Have you experienced any relief in that area (pun intended)?

I had three treatments and it has been eight months… Totally change my life I have no more urinary track infection and I have no more constant pain and irritation haven't had sex but I think if I did it would be OK I do not use any of the hormone creams and I'm not going to… Next year I'll go back for one more treatment or year which is $500 but well worth it after all the suffering. I totally recommend it

All doctor say different things… Sometime you have to be your own doctor. I told mine I would not be using the hormone creams

I am confident this treatment is helpful for urinary issues. I am specifically concerned with the atrophy issue, which is why I was curious about Guppy007. Shhe seemed to have simialar issues to mine.

daren, I haven't had the MLT as I have had other health issues to deal with, and I think I also wanted to wait a while to see what other women had to say about it.  I think it does sound promising, and of course everyone reacts differently, my problem is painful sex and so i think ultimately i will at some point go ahead and give it a go.  Let us know how you get on if you decide to go ahead..

Could you try having sex? lol!  but seriously, many women are interested in the MLT mainly due to the fact that they cant have sex and so we are hoping to hear from women like yourself that have had the treatment and have had sexual relations afterwards.

      Hi Guppy 007,

I wrote to you earlier hoping you could tell me how your experience has been so far with MLT. I do not have LS, I have atrophy, which means painful sex. Have you finished your treatment yet? If so, has it shown good results as far as improvement re intercourse? I ask because my DR didn't fully address this. He said I would probably need other therapies to go along with it. I'm about to drop a significant amount of money for MLT. I was hoping you could enlighten me regarding your results. It seems women are pleased but I am not sure if their issues are the same as mine. Thank you so much for your time!

Hi Daren ~ it's been 9 months since I had my last Mona. I do not have LS. I had the procedure because of unbelievably painful sex. Even after I stopped having sex all together the burning and itching never went away. I spent $2,500 because there was no way I would be able to live like that! Yes, the treatment helped aLot. My relationship ended in regards to sex so I masterbated. I got my sex drive back. The treatment themselves were alright, some pain at the opening. In-between treatments was miserable, miserable. The doctor said there was a 20% chance that it would not work. I thought, great, I had wasted all that money. But I found out I was healing and I needed to use aquafer. The treatment also stopped my urinary leakage. There is no way I would use hormones. I fired my regular gynecologist over that very issue. I researched and would only go with the Mona. I go back and forth about maintenance because I do not have a partner but I am pretty sure I will have it done. I found it a rough journey that was well worth it. I'm 58 so who knows, I may have a boyfriend in the future. Best wishes for a better, healthier future!

Thank you so much!! Since my issues were mainly from muscle tightness, I actually decided to try acupuncture first. If that doesn't work, I will be running to drop my money for MLT. Thank you again for your response. It gave me hope.

      wink

I can't imagine doing this without the numbing cream. My doctor has used it with every treatment
