I had my 3rd Mona Lisa Treatment 3 weeks ago. Unfortunately it did not work for me. Even when using an Estring and lubrication in conjunction with all 3 treatments ($2100 worth) I am still experiencing significant pain upon penetration, mostly burning and some bleeding. I'm not sure where to go from here and not sure I trust my GYN anymore. Did some research on her and found that she is involved in a lawsuit for having performed an illegal hysterectomy on a 12-year old girl with Autism. Also found other negative comments about her.
The reviews of the Mona Lisa Touch written by other patients seem to be all positive so far. Is there anyone else out there for whom this treatment didn't work?

lorraine, I was counting on having the Mona Lisa done if my AV progressed. Been 3 years since AV diagnosis. Should have gone with the hormone cream then as LS has now developed. Asked new gyn about Mona Lisa. Said she has been following it closely, but thinks it is too severe for most women with AV because of the thinness of atrophied skin. Maybe it's better if done early on?
As you are using hormones I don't know what options there would be other than the injection of platelets. Google it if you are not familiar with it. (If I put a link in it will be blocked). But that is also only a temporary fix. Assuming you are postmenopausal?

Hi Lorraine -
I'm someone that the MLT didn't work. I think the reviews have been edited to only show favorable. My doctor is very esteemed in her field and I trust her, however, I do believe that this laser treatment is not all it's talked up to be. My procedures were not too painful during, but the burning pain, that tingling feeling has never gone away. I feel like my vagina itches more now than ever! The first procedure I had swelling to the point I could barely walk. I iced often and it went down but the discomfort never went away. I think it's a waste of money. There is probably a reason insurance doesn't cover the procedures and that you are required to pay up-front. So if you are looking for an honest review (unless this is deleted). I would tell anyone to walk away from this..

Comments are blocked often, but yours won't be. At this point mentioning Mona Lisa is acceptable.

Google, "FDA warning on vaginal laser" (article came out in 2018) and "Vaginal laser treatment tied to complications like scarring." The second article came out today.

Could you please explain why a warning from the FDA would be unsuitable on a forum about health?! Their info is not to be taken lightly. If the information can only be shared privately it defeats the purpose of having a forum, doesn't it? Seems odd the Mona Lisa treatment can be discussed but a government health warning about it cannot. Should think Patient would encourage that sort of info.
No doubt this will be blocked as well.

Sarah, Can't seem to get on that medscape site. Is it just for medical professionals?

I just googled the article name, "Vaginal laser treatment tied to complications like scarring," and was able to read the article on Reuters.

My links are not being posted. Google this important article in the NY Times: "80,000 Deaths. 2 Million Injuries. It’s Time for a Reckoning on Medical Devices."

sarah, thanks so much for your diligence. I get the NYT but missed this article. It makes no sense whatsoever to block informative articles from legitimate sources. We are all here for help with health issues, so why would they be blocked? It happens to me far too often with posts that don't even contain links!

I used to sell pharmaceuticals, so I know how the medical device industry works and how under-regulated it is. I also was permanently injured by a morcellator.
I sold a vaginal estrogen cream, and such a safe, effective product should always be a first-line solution for post-menopausal dyspareunia and pain. There are many of these types of products on the market now, and they all should be tried. They don’t work for everyone, but they work for a lot of people.

I read the NYT article. I notice that Mona Lisa Touch laser therapy was not mentioned. My gynecologist demonstrated, with a thin piece of wood, how shallow are the indentations the laser makes in the vaginal wall. There is a video posted by the Italian doctor who invented the laser. It is encouraging to watch this demonstration. Mona Lisa has allowed me to eliminate hormones and antibiotics, as I was experiencing repeat urinary tract infections since menopause (never having had them before menopause). Everyone has a different experience with Mona Lisa Touch. I am looking for a forum where all opinions are voiced, positive or negative. I had my initial three treatments and then two 9-month touchups. I may have to go to twice-yearly. The treatment does not restore a young vagina (penetration is still too painful for me) but I am now healthy and have no more infections. I was not a candidate for HRT, as estrogen gives me scary ocular migraines. I would recommend women try Mona Lisa. If it doesn't work for them, they should try something else. But when it works, it sure works.
