Mono need help

Posted , 34 users are following.

Hi so In June I woke up one morning feeling very weak. I thought I needed to eat something but when I ate breakfast I still felt weird. I ended up having my first panic attack. My entire summer was filled with ER visits for weakness, low energy, fatigue, dizziness, off balance feeling, and generally feeling unwell. It turns out I have mono (diagnosed a week ago). I don't know what to do. Just looking for others' stories and well and recovery process. It's my 3rd month and I just feel so helpless. ?? Thanks guys ! Blessing to all

    Hi there,

I've had mono for 9 months now. I am a lot better within the past month. In the first 5-6 months were rough for me. I had a lot of fatigue, brain fog, muscle pain, pins and needle feeling in my extremities, muscle twitching, panic attacks, insomnia, unable to stay sleep. I would wake up every hour. Many of the symptoms you are experiencing now. I'm sure I'm missing many symptoms that I had that came and went then came back again. I thought I would never get better. Just know you will get better. Get a lot of rest, take vitamins and try not to over do it. Be patient with your body. Most importantly stay away from Dr Google. If you have any questions I would love to answer them. I wish I had that in the begining. I only found this forum in the last two months.

      Hi Shawna,

I'm glad to hear that you're doing much better. Post like this give me hope. Right now I'm having a good day but I know that's not guaranteed for tomorrow. And that's probably when I'll start t doubt my recovery. Luckily I have post like this to read when I'm feeling down. And yess I try to my best to stay away from Google. My doctor things I'm craz because I made her check things like my thyroid, oxygen levels, etc. because I was so sure that my symptoms were comming from them (thanks to Google!) lol

Thank you so much for the tips! Stay in touch and keep me up dated always. I hope you recovery keeps elevating smile

Oh wait I do have a question. Does anybody here feel like their in a daze ? Today was a good day for me. I didn't feel as weak or weird as I normally do, Thank God ! However I noticed I still felt a little hazy, like my vision wasn't as clear , and my mind was still foggy. It's not a type of vision problem where I need glasses or anything but it's definitely like a disconnect from the world. I feel like I'm in my own little bubble if that makes sense

      Hi Christy,

My daughter gets this, she calls it her brain fog, I have seen it mentioned on this blog by others.

      Hi Christy,

I experienced that too. I felt I wasn't me at times like I was in a dream. That will also go away. Part of this crazy virus. It was so bad in my 5th month with it. It was awful. I felt like I was a walking zombie. I couldn't focus on different things. Even though I feel better I still take it easy and still get a lot of rest.

      Hi Christy,

Yes I think that kind of haziness or feeling like you're in a daze can be quite common during different phases of the virus, key thing to remember is that it will pass over and you will feel more like yourself again - just try to remember to tell that to yourself when going through those horrible feelings.

I'm glad to hear that you have been feeling a little better Shawna, just take things slowly still and hopefully things will continue to improve bit by bit. Yes definitely staying away from google searches is a good idea.

Hoping everyone is having a good day today.

Christy my names jake I’ve been having that same hazzy foggy feel like I’m in a dream since it started 5 months ago. I also haven’t really had an appetite since it started. How are you now. The “brain fog” dream state is the worst

Thank you Shawna, Mono, and Craig. I really don't like this feeling because it's like when I stop feeling werid throughout my body , the haze is this there. Its so annoying. But atleast I'm not the only one to experience it. I can't wait for better days to come sad... yeaterday was a good day but today doesn't seem like it's going to be one. Feeling a little down. But it's okay smile thanks guys again. I know all will be well

Maybe I'm getting this because I'm not necessarily eating enough (since my appetite sucks ) or maybe it's just the virus itself but I get this werid feeling in my stomach. Sorta like how I would feel if I was hungry before I got sick. It's like a hunger/sinking feeling. It's so hard to explain. It's like a weakness in my stomach. It happens very frequently and I don't know why. I never had it before I got sick (unless I was incredibly hungry). For a while I thought it was low blood sugar but when I went to the ER is was fine. So I Bought my own blood sugar machine and even when I feel like that at home Itake my blood sugar and it's always in complete normal range. So maybe it's just the virus making my stomach feel so weird. Just putting it out there, let me know if you guys have experienced anything like this or your thoughts on it.

      Hi Christy,

I still get that feeling, so I try a little Gatorade or PowerAde. I think it feels like low blood sugar, I have never been diagnosed with it either. Maybe just have some on hand and try a little when you feel this way. The lack of appetite I am sure contributes to this.

Yess ! I was so confident that I was having low blood sugar attacks. Until I made them check right in front of me and there was nothing wrong with my blood sugar at alll. But yes the feeling DEFINITELY resembles what it feels like when your blood sugar drops. I wish I knew what was causing it though

Also mono , is the feeling very frequent still , or did it ease up a little as you went through the recovery process ?

      Hi Christy,

Not as bad as before when it was a daily, It now will come every few days and is lighter and does not last as long. You will notice that the symptoms will get lighter and then disappear one by one.

I think the virus really offsets your whole system Christy so it certainly could be that which is making your appetite not great at the moment....and I think just the whole worry and stress of the virus can do that to you also, everything mixed together can really contribute to this. Even if you can take some vitamin supplements when not able to eat as much that could be a good one, amino acids on a daily basis can be good just for maintaining and preserving your weight and the building blocks your body needs I think.

Yess it does ! And yea I do take vitamins , I hope they're doing their job lol. The last thing I need is a vitamin deficiency while my body is already trying to fight off mono
