Mono need help

Hi so In June I woke up one morning feeling very weak. I thought I needed to eat something but when I ate breakfast I still felt weird. I ended up having my first panic attack. My entire summer was filled with ER visits for weakness, low energy, fatigue, dizziness, off balance feeling, and generally feeling unwell. It turns out I have mono (diagnosed a week ago). I don't know what to do. Just looking for others' stories and well and recovery process. It's my 3rd month and I just feel so helpless. ?? Thanks guys ! Blessing to all

Hi Christy,
Everything you are saying sounds exactly the way I felt in the begining of all of this and I'm sure many of the people on this forum. The exhaustion didn't feel like I was sleepy for me either, it was more that I needed to just sit or lay down and do absolutely nothing. I could never sleep during the day which made me panic because I knew the best way to heal from this virus was to get as much sleep as possible. Just know I didn't sleep at all either and I'm so much better. I know it is hard for you to see right now but your body will heal. The great thing that you have over all of us is your age. Also, reading all those stories on the net will only add to your anxiety. The ones that have healed don't post or have gotten better and moved on with their lives. I put myself through a lot of anxiety and panic reading all of those stories and I read a lot. When I found this forum I got sooo much better. I finally found a forum where there was someone who healed from this virus. Stay positive. You'll get better day by day.

Hi Shawna,
Yes that feels good to hear but I can't sleep all day. It's definitely a physical exhaustion for me. Thanks for the reassuring response and the encouraging words , anxiety will not win !

i ended up here because of my 9 year old son recently being diagnosed with mono. I'm up at 430am in my time worried for him.
For him it all began wendesday sept 13, his eyes looked puffy and he looked really bad. He had a fever. I didn't observe any of this till after school. He otherwise seemed normal. It wasn't till 5 days later I took him to his pediatrician who confirmed mono with a blood test. Its now been 13 days he's had a fever (but it seems ibuprofen is keeping it down 8 hrs or more?) And 7 days no school. His eyes already look better but his throat just started hurting last Friday bad enough he cried. He claims it feels better now tho. He was followed up by his dr last Friday and goes back this friday. Im just sick with worry and he isn't eating well either. They say young kids bounce back faster but the 13 days of fever make me wonder.....

Hi Lea,
So sorry to hear about your son being so unwell with mono at the moment....yes I believe that's right that kids bounce back faster so I don't think at all your son is going to be like some of the unfortunate people on here who have been battling symptoms for months. It is of course a very nasty virus though so if it still take a few weeks or whatever for him to feel like himself again don't panic, because I believe he will feel much better sooner than later - thinking about you and just make sure he gets plenty of rest and drinks / eats well, etc, removing stress is good too so anything he can do that he enjoys whilst resting is good, even watching fav tv shows or whatever.
And for Christy and Mono and everyone else here.....just to reiterate that encouragement and reassurance that you WILL get better, even if it doesn't feel that way now and things seem at their lowest ebb at times....all this will pass over and better times are ahead - just shelter through the storm so to speak and take care of yourself and be kind to yourself and your body each day. Thinking of you all and hoping for a good day.

Thanks Craig. This is the absolute worst feeling to have, to see your child sick with something you can't really do anything about but wait. I have 2 other kids and im so afraid of him passing it to them too. We are being as careful as possible now that we know he has this but i keep thinking "what if", and with the long incubation time, there's no telling when he contracted it and to know if they won't.
Currently my son is still sleeping and still feels normal so maybe this will be the day his fever starts to break, but who knows.

Really hope that things improve soon Lea, it will get better and it is not such an easy virus to pass on as it's not air-borne, so fingers crossed noone else will be affected. Just take thing slowly one day at a time is all you can do and I believe your son will be feeling better soon and it won't affect him for a long time - his age is a REAL advantage, because 75% of the people in the western world have been infected and most of them when a child without most even realising it was anything more than a normal cold or whatever - it's just hitting your son a bit harder by the sounds but he is still young and has great powers of recovery.

This is very normal in the beginning with mono, my granddaughters had symptoms like this. His age works to his advantage and if he is feeling better this is a good sign.

What worries me about my other 2 is they have shared drinks with him in the past. That's one big way of passing this.
Well I hope all of you can completely feel like normal soon. I would not wish this on anyone.

Hi Lea, I'm sorry you're going through such a difficult time and i hope your son recovers quickly. Just some encouragement. I'm in my late teens and people tell me all the time that i maybe recover soon because I'm not yet in my 20s. So I'm sure your son will recover in no time.Praying for the best ! keep us updated

Hi Lea,
?It may be good to have a little temp it is probably battling the virus back. My temperature was lower the entire time I had it, It is now up to 98.2 and I am feeling better. It is miserable and I hope your other two don't come down with it, although you will know what to watch out for.

yes Mono, I read that while fever may be alarming, it's a way of showing that the body is in-fact fighting off the virus.

Hey Lea,
Christy is right, there is great hope because of the age of your son. There is great hope for everyone whatever age they are actually with this virus - it's just unfortunate for some it takes longer than others. It is a virus which people recover from, in various timescales, but the vast majority of people make a full and complete recovery.
Hoping that your other children stay clear of the virus....remember they may already have been exposed to it at a younger age without knowing it so that is a real possibility - try not to worry just take it day at a time.
Thinking of you Mono and Christy also.....your wisdom and encouragement for others despite what you're going through yourselves is amazing

Thank you everyone for your kind words, i hope all of you begin to heal completely also.
My son has been free of fever all day and was even energetic enough to do some make up work. His eyes still look a little droopy/ dark circles but he claims to not feel tired at all. He says his thrpat feels normal again and no pain anywhere else. He wants to return to school tomorrow but I told him not to feel like he cant go to the nurses if he's feeling tired.
I do wonder about my other 2 and myself and my husband also if we were once unknowingly infected...
Again hope to hear of a quick recovery for the rest of you.
