best wishes to you and your mum, when i was in hospital there was an older lady there who had a revision and she was looked after differently to me - i was up and physioed and released ASAP, she was taken at a much slower pace and they really listened to her and her family so dont worry too much - your worry will transfer to your mum.

    take care x

Very sorry to hear abt ur mom.  I don't think it's unusual to do hip replacement on elderly.  I am72 recuperating pretty well.  But I would like to comment on people falling, tripping etc.  my first day after arriving in fla. - just starting my 4th month recuperating from thr....I fell in the Perkins restaurant parking lot......tripped over the cement parking bars....landed on both knees and hands.  Very badly bruised but no breakage.  But I am mentioning this because it would be interesting to hear some feedback re falls and how to prevent them.  It's tough cause as we get older our balance is off and we have other health issues such as replacements et al.

I'm sixty seven and have had both knees & a shoulder done prior to my THR.  It has made recovery a bit harder since the knee on the operated side will be needing another replacement soon . I also had a balance problem with walker and cane because that & of bad shoulder on that side. Balance is so very important in preventing falls; has physical therapy offered any advice on excecises that help train your body to remain

balanced? If not, explain your concern about balance and ask if they have an exercise program to help you . Sometimes occupational therapy will

also assist with some good problem solving ideas .  Often I have to make

an effort to pay attention to the terrain so I don't trip while looking up

instead of where I put my feet.😉. Also, I'm a bit absent minded so I've

had some near misses while not watching where I'm going carefully enough.

Get rid of throw rugs if at all, possible since they are known to cause tripping. Try to stay off rough & uneven ground. Keep nite lights on so if you have to get up it won't be so dark & stumbley. Have someone help you arrange things in the kitchen and laundry area so that the items you use most are where you can reach them without a step stool & without bending down to the floor. This may sound silly, but if you wear silky nightgown/ pajamas be sure you don't slip getting out of bed. I'm sure others have more ideas about avoiding falls.

I hope you continue to heal well & avoid any nasty falls. Keep us posted.

That's great news!!!  It's OKAY to have those little breakdowns....we all do.  Just know that it's only going to get better now and your mum will be so much happier with her new hip.  Take care and utilize all the help you can get.....BOTH of you will need it.
