Muscle twitching and jerks

Hi. I have read a couple of places that other people experience this with peri. Just wondering if anyone has a clue as to what causes it. It was bad for about a week and then got better. Now it's back. Ugh. Such a worrisome symptom. Please again tell me I am not alone on this one!

Ok y'all. I started taking mag a few days ago. About 150 in the am and 150 in the pm. I increased my D to 4000iu from 2000iu. And added a calcium 250mg with a little D in it at night. Ugh. I hate taking all these vitamins. Does anyone have any thoughts about these dosages? I'm still twitching when I rest my legs. Thanks

I am also wondering if what I am calling twitching is also what others refer to as crawling under your skin? Sometimes it feels like crawling. Other times I can see the skin make this little indentation when it happens. It feels like little bubbles are popping under my skin. It's only in my legs

Be sure your magnesium is either magnesium glycinate or citrate. Magnesium oxide does not absorb well. Also I would take 400 mgs. and Calcium citrate 1000 to 1200 mgs. daily. The amount of D3 sounds good. I take 5000 mgs. myself.

Also caffeine makes restless leg syndrome worse so cut back on your coffee intake.

Thank you Cynthia. Do you space those doses throughout the day?

You don't have to but in my case, I always make sure most of the magnesium is at night. It can be very calming. Give it a try and see how you feel. I hate taking pills too so I try to eat a clean diet. I'm also not a big caffeine person which really can bother the legs. I do not suffer with RLS, but I have an aunt that does, and the magnesium is what helped her the most.

Yep, I call those muscle spasms....like an involuntary muscle contractions. I had bloodwork done and my magnesium and potassium levels were great, so I'm guessing it's purely hormonal with me.

I'm on my period right now and my calves are twitching and jerking like crazy today. Feels so weird. I keep getting sharp pains in my calf too. Is that normal for peri or menopause? Did any of you get little zaps or pains in your legs with the twitches?

Hey Kelly.  I never had any pain with mine.  Just twitching.  Have you tried magnesium?

Yes, major muscle spasms and sharp pains since last December.

Yes! I am almost 49. My weird symptoms began around the age of 40. My most recent is the muscle twitching that started in my wrist and forearm and ran up to my finger. Then I just started having random twitches all over the place. Was sure I was dying after googling symptoms!  I then wondered if it could be hormones as I had been having weird symptoms for years now that I feel are definitley "peri" related. And I started finding several forums with women having the exact same symptoms. I have also had random muscle pain mostly in my calves and arms. This hormone stuff is driiving me crazy! I have started back up taking magnesium supplements and have ordered some that shouldn't cause diarrhea. I am also taking natural progesterone.

I did spray magnesium oil on them last night and ate 2 bananas yesterday. When i woke up this morning they were fine. I'm on my period right now so i know that's why my symptoms are worse. Now I'm dealing with jelly arms and legs today. Fun fun! Lol. Thanks so much
