My story and how I beat globus sensation

I made a promise that if I got better I would share my story on this discussion board in the hope that I may help someone. All the posts on here were a great comfort to me when I was experiencing this awful condition.

It all happened about 8 weeks ago. I was in the theatre and just sat down to begin the show when I ate a sweet normally, took a sip of water normally and afterwards felt like I was having difficulty swallowing. My mouth went super dry and I felt like a had a lump in my throat and my tongue was enlarged (it wasn't). I thought perhaps I was having a reaction to something so before the interval I had to leave and get out of there. I felt complete terror and danger and thought I was going to die. My husband was worried and took me to A&E. I couldnt breathe properly but was not wheezing. I felt like someone was strangling me, standing on my neck and I was in a complete panic that came out of nowhere. Apparently I had a panic attack or severe anxiety episode. Well, I didnt believe this diagnosis because I had over the years suffered from anxiety on and off and bouts of low mood but even when I have faced the most difficult times in my life, never have I had a panic attack so wondered why on such a happy day I would develop this. Anyway the initial attack was only the start of my problems, I was told the symptoms of my choking sensation would go away within a few hours. It didnt. This made it worse and I was not so easily going to put this down to stress as most things seem to be these days. I went to my GP who said I did seem to have some swelling in my neck and ordered me an ultrasound. As I couldn't wait 3 weeks for the paperwork to come through I saw an ENT consultant privately who put a camera up my nose and down my throat and said everyhing looked perfect and likely to be globus sensation which is common when experiencing panic attacks and anxiety. This only gave me some comfort because I was still feeling these awful symptoms. After the 4th week I had scan and this showed nothing. My thyroid was perfect, which I suspected may be the issue due to my high thyroid antibodies, although I knew I had normal thyroid function. This was also some comfort. I was suffering, and it was really really getting me down. Having to get up every day and go to work was so hard and I was so anxious I was not sleeping or eating well. I thought I would have it forever. After a while I started to think, well this isn't going to kill me as time has proven, its not getting worse or better so I need to start trying things to see if anything helps. I also had a strange crawling sensation in my neck not on top of my skin but underneath - hard to explain. Also when I put chin to chest I felt like the part between my neck and chin was swollen. I tried breathing exercises, hot water bottles, hot baths, drinking red wine, taking NSAI's, drinking loads of water, trying to eat better, sleep better, watching funny films but nothing worked. I then found a couple of websites online suggesting a very simple neck exercise to do many times throughout the day and specifically for globus sufferers. I started to do this and over a week the symptoms started to ease and has got better and better to the point that its only 5% there. The most important part is to make sure your shoulders are always down and pushed back as far as you can. No hunched shoulders or it won't work. Then carefully, with mouth closed, ease your neck back as far as it can go, all the time looking up to the ceiling. You should be able to feel yourself stretching your neck. It may make you cough a little. Then roll your head a little to left and right and centre. It probably won't work the first go. you have to do it many times a day over a week or so.

My GP said that panic attacks can cause a lot of problems in the neck, real tension and muscles, and other structures and a horrid sensation of a lump in your neck. I have to understand now that this is the cause.

Apologies for the long post but it's a long story.

I hope it helps someone.

Good luck to you all and take care of yourselves.

So i have a weird question. Has anyone that has this symptom been on a drug called Reglan? I didn't start having throat issues till the Dr. put me on this drug. I began feeling bad spasms in my throat, almost between a Charlie horse and needles is what it felt like. I finally stopped having these spasms but now it's replaced with this lump feeling. I don't know if I want to cry or scream at the Dr. to fix it. Either way I'm ready to be back to normal. I 'm wondering if I'm causing this myself, I'm very serious about staying healthy. Never had anything go wrong till about 3 months ago. Now everything's falling apart lol.

      Hi Tara,

What was the drug for if you don't mind my asking? It was not a drug for me that caused this, but more of a traumatic event. I think. I relate very much to you when you say you take being healthy seriously. I have never had any problems like this and mine started five months ago. I am desperate to find a cure!

I hope our experience will help others out there with this problem -

I experienced the same sensations that others have described in this forum - pill stuck in throat sensation, gone in the morning but worst as the day progresses, loss of appetite, depressed, lethargic, hoarseness ........ I have figured out that Avorvastatin (drug for high cholesterol) which he started 4 months ago is to blame - I took myself  off of it and low and behold in just a few days I am back to feeling my  old self and even the throat sensation problem is fainting away - so for all of you out there who are on either Crestor or Lipitor or similar medication, it might be the culprit - happy to say that I found the problem cause it was getting very very bad - physiologically, emotionally and physically - hope it helps someone else - I have not taken it for 4 days now and I feel that I must be okay in few more days. I will post againg if anything changes.

I have realised over the weeks that it is a lot to do with anxiety , that's why it increases during the day . I have found relaxation and throats exercises help greatly and I am also coming off the omeprazole which have been on for years as it contributes to silent gerd - you have to slowly come off them and supplement digestive enzymes before food as if you have been on them a long time your didestive system will be all over the place and low on acid and enzymes. The low acid actually is very bad as the LES valve only closes when there is enough acid in the stomach at the right PH . I think my silent gerd has caused the anxiety and hence the globus - it's a viscous cycle that you slowly need to wean off.

Hi - the throat exercise involves sitting on a chair with your shoulders slumped forward and slowly looking up to the ceiling as far as you can then left and right ( you will feel the stretch and be able to tilt right back after a minute or so) - the relaxation is sitting fully supported on a settee then deliberately tensing each muscle group for a few seconds starting with feet then thighs , etc right up to face. After tensing each muscle group in turn you release the tension and at the same time exhale fully (after inhaling) - you need to "feel" the tension out I'd you know what I mean. Do both several times a day and you will learn how to relax the tensed muscles including the throats muscles - hope it helps.

    Hi,

i suffered from this illness back in 1997. Was prescribed Zoloft which helped. Just before Christmas 2016 the symptoms have come back. Christmas was especially stressful hence the return of this illness. So far, my doctor has prescribed me antidepressants and I've seen a psycholotrist. Four months later I am struggling to eat and I eat very little. I have diabetes and because I'm not eating my sugars and blood pressure have affected. I don't know what to do. I am a law student but this is not stressful as such. I want to continue my studies but this illness is slowly taking over my life. I am lucky I have a beautiful husband who is extremely supportive. It's got to the point that I drink wine to take my medication and eat.

hi just letting you know that ive suffered with this a year now. saw ent who said my larynx was swollen and raw from gerd so i seen the gastroentlolgist who put me on strong gerd meds and it has helped a bit.my endoscope biopsy revieled nodulars throughout also which im wating for results from the biopsies for. my choking feelking continues so my endocrinlogist sent me for mri on my spine c1 to c7 and found a tumour growing in my spine growing out towards the back of my throat. the nerves all being pinched therefore causing the nerves in my throat to inflame and that what is causing my globus sensation. Took a year to find my answer but i found it and now can start treatment and surgery. If i didnt pursue the matter after doctor after doctor tried to tell me it was just anxiety causing the problem, the tumour would have grown to big to do anything about it. So in short im not saying that your sensation is more than an anxiety issue as it could just be that but i am saying to check out every angle as other things like digestive issues or tumours etc can cause this and are very hard to diagnose.Pay close attention to any other symptons showing like any nerve stuff or vomitting acid or bile or referred pains in shoulders or abdomen. It may be something else and if the symptons are worsening again i would be seeing some specialists. Good luck and i know its scary but be strong and do what ever you can to take care

Than you so much, Chippy!! The reason I found your posting on this site is that I just had a globus hystericus reaction a moment ago, and did a search about it on  on the Internet, which led me to your commentary here.

It is a very frightening sensation, to say the least. It feels like you're breathing your last breath, and that your throat is closing up completely. It seems like it feeds on itself. We get panicky, do a lot of shallow breathing which creates more panic, and so on.

I went to an emergency room the first time I had the condition, but was not satisfied with the doctor's words. He said nothing was wrong, but if felt so awful. Why was he sending me home without a cure? At last, I saw an ENT doctor. It took several weeks to see him, because he his schedule was completely full of appointments with other patients. I was filled with terror and anxiety for those weeks. Finally, I got to see him. He sanitized a small mirror on a narrow and long handle, and put it way in the back of my throat. He looked down and said that my throat, or voice box (or whatever he called it) and said it had narrowed, but with a purpose. I was breathing too fast and emitting too much carbon dioxide, and that my throat was narrowing to prevent that. Wow, that was not what I expected to hear. I was thinking in terms of surgery to correct the problem. The solution was now responsibility - not his. Darn!! Haha.

I had to learn to breathe more slowly and deeply. Also, I might need to use a paper bag to breathe into to raise my carbon dioxide in my blood level. The ENT said my throat would never completely close. I was so glad to hear that. I think that relieved a lot of anxiety to hear a voice of authority replace my flawed thinking. I could now be more confident that I would be okay. Whew!!

I learned not to let the globus sensations to bother me, even if they appeared to be dangerous. It was my fear that was crying wolf, and not my sense of logic. I let the sensations come and go as they will. They disappeared in time.

Lately, I had a cold followed by a lot of coughing. I noticed my globus hystericus was back again. I was out of practice in minimizing the sense of danger. I am now sitting here with my shoulder  back and my neck bent so that I'm looking at the ceiling, just as you said. I also notice while typing this that my shoulders are hunched forward and my neck is pointing down. That could be a problem that can be corrected easily I guess you're implying that we need to have a good posture, if I'm reading your words correctly. I often use my computer while sitting on the couch, bent over to look at my computer on my coffee table. Have to stop doing that!!

Thank you for taking the time out to share your story. It was a very kind and loving gesture toward those who suffer from this condition. Thankfully, it can go away, unlike some medical conditions, and for that we can be grateful.

    Best of health to you.

    Phil

I know this is an old post but I just have to get involved in this conversation. I'm hoping to find a solution to my problem. Like most of you, I do feel the strangling sensation and it's getting severe, to the point that I stay up all night. I can't sleep cause I feel something choking me, as in strangling me. Unlike most of you, I don't have to be eating .. It starts when I lay down to get some sleep. I do admit that I am struggling with depression and stress, I recently lost my son .. nine months ago, he passed away in his sleep from sleep apnea here in my home. I cry every single day, I wish this pain upon no one, I don't take anti depressants. I don't know why I'm feeling this horrible strangling sensation, I do know that I have struggled with upper abdominal pain for several years now and I had an endoscopy done but they said it came back normal, which to me was strange cause If it's normal then why do I experience pain ? I do have to take Nexium or Zantac but I'm extremely worried about my lack of sleep from feeling like something is strangling me. Please, if any of you know or have any idea why I'm feeling this way, please reply cause I don't know what to do anymore .. thank you ! ????

      Hi Lupe,

I was strike when yiu said it happens when you lay down. I've the same problem. It's hurting right now while I'm typing from my phone cause it's mid night I'm trying to sleep but going through all these comments.

      My GI doctor told me:

      1. not to eat too much,

      2. go to bed at least 2 hours after dinner, so don't sleep or lay down right away after dinner.

I have feeling that we are dealing with acid reflux. My whole throat hurts and it'd very annoying. I have a difficulty swallowing. It hurts when I swallow. I have to go see doctor again tomorrow. I hope you are feeling better. By now.

I want to thank you and others who have shared various exercises to do for the symptoms of Globus. I looked up globs on You Tube and there were a number of videos with these exercises. Last year I suffered terribly from symptoms of a constant lump in my throat as well as the feeling like someone was strangling me constantly. I was overwhelmed. I had all the tests done by a gastrointestinal specialist and the only thing he old find was acid reflux, which I already knew I had and was taking nexium for. He said the other symptoms indicated that my throat muscles were reacting and tightening up and that I should take a low dose of an anti anxiety medication to release those

muscles. I didn't want to take more meds so I looked online to see what I old learn and I found this discussion and others talking about exercises. I watched the videos online and within a week after doing the exercises every day those awful strangling feelings and the lump were gone. They stayed gone until just yesterday when I became stressed out over side effects of a new medication. I remembered the advice here and the videos and once again i'm finding relief by doing the exercises. I really appreciate your help Chippy for giving us this information!

    Hi Chippy,

my son had exactly your symptoms: panic attack, anxieties, difficulties to breathe. Barely ate. Problem was solved after quite a number of expensive medical visits and examinations with no hint on organic problems: problem caused by dry air. Placed humidifiers in the sleeping rooms, and after a few days, problem reduced and disappeared after 2 weeks. Problems during 6 months. Winter, heating --> dry air. Increased humidity from 25% to 40% to solve the problem.

    Best.

I see this post is quite old now but but alongside having a feeling of a lump in your throat did you ever suffer from sharp pain ( like a bone stuck) just below Adam's apple and slightly to the left?

    • Posted

Yes and it's difficult to swallow food. It hurts when I swallow toasted bread, pizza, fries etc. I had this problem few months ago and I was diagnosed with H-Pylory virus in my gut. I took antibiotic for it and I felt fine. Now it's back like Arnold Schwarzenegger. I am going to see my GI doctor tomorrow again

Thank you, my son had that years ago, I will see my dr and get that checked, glad you're feeling back to normal!!

      Hi Katie,

The sensation in my throat changes, but I remember describing it as a chicken bone stuck in my throat sometimes. Mine also does seem a little bit more happening on the left side. How long have you had this? I've had it for about seven months now. Everything is normal according to medical tests so now I am trying to approach it in a more energetic or emotional way.

I also feel a clicking when I swallow or turn my head to the side sometimes. Sometimes it feels like an air bubble or hairball or something. Other times it just feels like such a constriction, or tightly contracted muscles and that my tongue will be sucked down into my throat. I still have no idea why I have this. How about you?

      Thanks, Deon.

      Hi deon,

Thank you for your reply, I'm sorry to hear you've had it so long, that's awful, I've had it for 6 weeks and it's driving me mad 😩 Mine started when I was quite stressed and raised my voice at the kids, felt like my throat spasmed and really sharp, it then went but happened a few days later, since that time I've been left with the feeling of a bone stuck in throat, constricted throat, lump and now fur ball! I have the need to keep clearing my throats too as feels like phlegm!

I've had a camera into nose and down throats and they said all is clear, I'm going back in 2 weeks as still not happy but wonder if it's stress ( I do suffer) or stomach related as some say reflux but I've been put on omeprazole but not helping!!

I hope you get some answers soon!!

Omeptazole didn't work for me. However Zantac has big time. 1 150mg pill in the am and 1 around 3pm. Also they found I have gastritis. I do not ever have burning like acid reflux. So they call it LPR? Silent reflux. I have exactly what you have said and more. Lots of tests 2 of the up the nose from the ent and lots more. I have plenty of stress. Now, try this. 100% Natural Raw Apple Cider Vinagar with mother in it. Shake it really well and I like it so I use a shot glass and follow it with water or others say they put like 2 tablespoons in a cup with some water and chug it. That helps me tremendously when the nasty feeling of phlegm in there. I also have allergies and my nose doesn't run, instead it drains down my throat. Still not spitting anything though. Grrrr. Anyway, my stress has never left but check out those 2 things. Maybe just a allergy to something seasonal. I was living in an apartment that the air ducts and blowers in the whole a/c unit were filled with mold. Anyway try that out. With me on the days that I do have that feeling I notice it's also with the weather patterns. And I forgot, I use this simply Saline spray, to wash my sinuses out one time a day usually at night in the shower after I'm pretty close to being ready to get out this way the steam has hit everything up there. Try what I said and see if it helps. By the way the Apple cider vinegar is a natural and Safeway if you do have reflex, to neutralize the acid in your stomach or I would not tell you that. Good luck let me know

Also, I forgot maybe try Zyrtec for allergies as well. And does the feeling go away when you lay down for bed. That is when I feel best. Very odd.

      Thanks jacqui,

funnily I had been taking raw ACV for months before this happened so actually wondered if it had caused it!! I'll go back to it!

I wondered if I had a hiatus hernia maybe so I guess an endoscopy would be

      the next thing 😬

Its driving me mad with this sharp fur ball type sensation, seems to get worse when I bend over to pick something up or if I get stressed, I do think probably stress is a big factor in this.

      Thanks for your help 😊

hi katie and anyone else suffering with globus sensation. feeling of something stuck in your throat. ive been dealing with every specialist for a year now for this and they all know its my gi tract or digestive tract causing it for me, most likely my liver as those enzymes become high on occasion. but no doctor will deal with me untill as i was quoted it becomes an emergency to where im bleeding from my butt or mouth or it becomes a heart or lung issue again. so i went to see a naturalpath. thank god for miracle workers. instead of poisoning my body with more antiinflammatories and other meds he detoxified my body and that took care of the sensation and many other issues. im now on immune support therapy and alot of my other health issues are improving. along with all that i have no wait times for specialist and tests and dont have to deal as much with the actual health care systems policies and rules etc. i suggest everyone go see a good naturalpath

Hi Katie. I saw a gastroenterologist after started having globus hystericus. All they found was a hiatal hernia. Naturally that could cause acid reflux and that might cause burning in your throad. In my case, I was breathing too rapidly and that caused my throat to constrict. An ENT doctor found that out by putting a 45 degree angled mirror into the back of my mouth. He said my throat was trying to shrink its dIameter to force me to slow down the breathing. I was getting rid of too much carbon dioxide. I had to learn to breathe more slowly and relax. I had a lot of anxiety and had panic disorder at that time. You can try breathing into a paper lunch bag for a minute or two to increase your carbon dioxide blood level. My ENT fellow said that my throat would never fully close off,and that was re-assuring to hear. I would definitely recommend an ENT that has the ability to listen and understand what you're going through. You could get an endoscopy, too, to see what's going on below your vocal chords, down and into your stomach. I was prescribed Zantac to reduce acid reflux. Those two specialists are well worth your while. If you have a lot of anxiety and/or panic disorder, a good therapist would be in order, if you're not already seeing one. You don't want to hold that suffering in. Share what's going on with a professional who cares.

Hi Phil, thanks for your reply, well I certainly suffer from stress and was already diagnosed with hyperventilation syndrome years ago for which I saw a Buteyko therapist, I do need to start breathing properly again, I've had so many symptoms but this is a new one! If it were just a lump or constricted feeling I'd think it was anxiety but it feels sharp, like lots of little splinters ( not burning) it's worse when I go to talk or raise my voice, it seems to catch, it's very odd.

I'm seeing ENT again although he said it all looked healthy, I will do breathing again and try and see a gastroenterologist.

      Thanks again.

      Thanks Monica,

I'm glad you're feeling better and on the right path! I do agree nutritionists are great and I'll definitely see one, I'm just thinking if it's a hiatus hernia has that not got to be fixed with an operation?

I don't feel burning in my throat, more like a scratchy sponge stuck there type feeling!

Just to swallow it feels scratchy and dry, also my left ear and neck muscles hurt 🤔

    • Posted

perhaps a gastroenterologist can see what is wrong with the problem with that scratchiness in your throat with an endoscope. Might be a physical problem as well as hyperventilating. I'm not sure what doctors do with those hernias. Perhaps operate? You can look that up on an Internet search engine. I'm sure there is a lot of information there. Be glad we live in this day and age instead of 100 years ago!! What our ancestors had to put up with!

Haha I know! I seem to live in fight or flight just no animals to run from!!

Will do, thanks for help 😀

Katie, have you ever tried deep relaxation guided by a CD or tape? I use those and I can become very relaxed, thus my parasympatheitic nerves take over. Building up your self-confidence can help, too, or at least it did with me. The main thing is to tell the doctors what is going on with you so they can help.
    • Posted

I have Phil, I've also done Buteyko which helped enormously, it's just finding the time to do it all again, I think we underestimate how important it is to relax, not something I do easily!!

Hi! I wanted to say that although many people have similar symptoms, I feel that yours are closest to mine. I feel that this condition affects my ears, and that strained neck muscles are also a part of it. I just completed a neck CT scan with contrast and a barium swallow, and everything came out perfect. I've had so many tests done with nothing medically wrong with showing. I have taken so many pills as far as antihistamines, muscle relaxers, acid reflux things, even Chinese herbs recommended by acupuncturists. I have started doing kundalini yoga which really works with energy and the breath. I have done the stretches recommended in this blog and have done so many things to figure out how to heal. After all of these months I feel that it's getting a little better, or I'm just dealing with it better. But it still worries me about my ears.

Wondering if you'd like to talk more about this. Maybe we can figure something out as far as what has caused it and how to get better.

I know that it is disheartening. Mine does feel like it gets bigger when I'm having confrontations, or feeling sad. I must say the only time that it's completely gone is when I first wake up in the morning, and when I'm eating or drinking. Is this true for you? I also think mine started after a traumaric event where I tensed my muscles too much. I have to believe that it's going to get better because the alternative is awful. I hope you are feeling OK, just breathe and know everything's going to be all right.

    • Posted

Hi deon, I'm sorry you're going through this, it seems a lot of people are 😒 I'm sure mine has a lot to do with tight muscles in my neck but still feel concerned that something more sinister is going on ( I do suffer with health anxiety, the more I worry the worse my symptoms get!)

if it were just the lump feeling I would accept that it's globus but I have this really weird scratchy feeling that makes me want to gag, this seems to happen when I go to talk, like it activates it, i wake up with it feeling dry but gets progressively worse as the day goes on, I then worry more.

Have you had an endoscopy? I now worry there's something in my oesophagus.

Id love an easy answer for this as I'm sure you would, yoga sounds great, will calm the body and mind, slow breathing is very good for this, something I need to do!!!

    • Posted

Hey Katie. Yes I've had two endoscopies. That's where they stick the camera down your throat right? The first doctor did say there was some tissue that was thicker than normal. He's the one who diagnosed it as globus and says he (and everyone) has no idea how to treat it. Second endoscopy they said there was nothing.

My symptoms do also seem to worsen throughout the day.

    • Posted

Hiya, I've had the camera through the nose and into throat but not into oesophagus so that's now where I'm worrying the problem is. Endoscopy is where it goes into the stomach I think, have you had that done?

    • Posted

Ohhh. No, I wasn't too happy about that procedure so didn't do it. Also the gastro intestinal doctor didn't think what I was experiencing was reflux related- although I don't think he knows about globus. When I first got it I did experience throwing up in my mouth. It was really gross. But that has mostly gone away. I really don't know what to think. Let me know how it goes!!

    • Posted

Oh dear, it's not something I want but will ask to be put to sleep!! I don't know what to think either, anxiety and tension or silent reflux 🤔 Either way if it doesn't get better I will have to have oesophagus and stomach looked at or I won't stop thinking about it, it drives me mad!!

I'll keep you informed but really hope yours disappears.

Hi Katie! I had the test where they put the came a up your nose and down the back of your throat to your stomach. You have to be awake for that and it's not fun. The first time she tried to pass my throat I was gagging and threw up. They have a little thing there for that. She tried to succeed for about 3-5 minutes and she took it back out. Gave me some more numbing stuff (you inhale it threw your nose). And we waited about 5 minutes and she successfully got it done. It's not pleasant at all, but that worked. The endoscopy you need to be asleep and then they go in threw your mouth and to your stomach. How are you feeling now? You were sick?

    • Posted

Hi Jacqui, I had the tube up through my nose and into my throat, I was ok with that! They didn't go into my stomach though, I'll definitely ask to be put to sleep for that!!

I'm still the same, it's worse when I talk as it feels like a furball stuck in my throat and makes me want to gag, just wish I knew what it was, keep thinking the worse.

      Has yours gone now?

    • Posted

The one up your nose and Into your esophagus is awake cause they measure pressure I think. You have to swallow for them Icky, the upper GI they call or EGD is asleep that's threw your mouth all into your stomach to check for ulcers or other stomach problems. Where do you live? See I have noticed that sometimes different areas and days temperatures humidity makes it different. I have silent reflux so nothing bothers me eating. It's weird like you said a fur ball or I think in my case a lot of stress and allergies and anxiety all have to do with it. With a tight bra. Also when I go to sleep it's better and I'm fine all night. Unless I drink water 💦. And that's all it takes. Same in the morning. See I'm allergic to 3-4 different types of mold and I live in Florida so, lots if it. But last year we found out there was mold all in our a/c vents. Terrible and I was sick a lot too. Pneumonia 2 times, hospitalized 1 time because it was that bad. I'm 41 and that's not really heard of. Well, at least from what everyone tells me. I had a blood count of 25,000. Not good at all. Seeing as it's supposed to be between 5 or 7k to 10k so anyway, what I do, is before bed, I take a shower and breathe in the steam threw my nose. Clean my nose really good and use a saline mist clean it out. That's helped. See my sinuses I think continue to drain in my throat. So in combined with the globus sensation stress anxiety and way to much more adds up. I also take ranitidine for my stomach which helps way more then any other things. 2 150mg pills a day or sometimes the second dose I split and take it 2 hours apart. Maybe 1/2 at 2-3pm and the other at 5-6. My pharmacist actually knows so much more than my drs lolAnd of course a daily allergy medication. Amongst other medicine. I'm going to die of side effects from all this stuff I take. Anyway, besides our anxiety, something else is possibly going on and you can see about those. I always feel so sorry because it's an aggravating thing and stressful enough. I don't want anyone else to deal with this. And you notice more and more people talking about it as well.

      Hi jacqui,

Oh dear, it is rather stressful, I'm in the U.K I'm not sure mine has anything to do with humidity etc, I lived in Brisbane for a while and was fine there, mine all came on quite suddenly after becoming stressed and shouting, my throat seemed to cramp and sharp pain, I've now been left with these weird feelings so I'm guessing it's triggered by stress but am worried it's oesophagus or stomach related.

What were your throat symptoms again? Do you get the sharp, scratchy, furball type feeling below Adam's apple?

The only thing left for me is the fur ball in my throat. But that's not always there anymore. I can tell you though it's from my anxiety and stress. That's how it began. Just one day I was taking my medication and it was there. However, I'm not supposed to take Ibuprofen because I had ulcers when I was 20ish. And I had to take it for a few weeks, (dumb doctors orders) and it started after that. So stress and that. Stomach he says gastritis and I will have to look, but he wanted to inject Botox? Into my splinter the muscles in there are not relaxing enough. And like almost everyone says stress has a ton to do with it. I never had pain, I never burped and the only time I got relief was when I was eating or sleeping. Not drinking though, water I started drinking more towards room temperature. I honestly think that my dr is nuts but I'm doing what he said so. Like I said though no pain.

I'm glad yours is nearly gone! How long did you have it?

Mine has changed from original sharp pain when shouting around Adam's apple area to then lump in throat feeling and like phlegm is stuck, still have that but also like a furball stuck but it's mainly when I talk, I'm going back to ENT as not happy then will see a gastroenterologist as I think my stomach isn't great either.

I hope you continue to rid this horrid feeling 😊

It's different everyday, today it's there. But what I do is try natural stuff. For instance, when I was driving home earlier, it was as driving me nuts and when I got home I did my apple cider vinegar and water and it went away for a bit. It's not that bad right now, but I also do peppermint oil in capsules. I know that it's not going to hurt me because they are not drugs and will not screw me up. It's natural so I try. And plus I burp peppermint so it's a bonus lol.

      Hey Help Jacqui and Katie,

Mine changes daily too, and I must say that lately it has been feeling a bit better. One of the difficulties for me was/is believing that it will get better. Since I don't know what it is, it's hard to help myself. But I can say that it is now at least bearable, where before I was VERY depressed about it. (For days and weeks and months it felt hopeless.)

It's funny because of all the things I've tried, it is peppermint oil that also helps me the most. I rub it directly on the "globus," and put a little on my nose so that when I breath in, everything feels open. The relief is temporary and I do it throughout the day but it does seem to help. Also eating and drinking help but that puts me in a downward spiral because I don't want to gain weight.

I am so thankful that it is getting better, and want to extend to you that yours will too. I think we are very sensitive and with this almost impossible to endure ailment, we have an awareness of that area of our body that not many even think about.

Please keep me informed about your recovery and anything, no matter how weird it seems, that helps!!

Deon I think you are right, I also suffer from muscle twitching and extra heartbeats and I think I am just sensitive to things going on in my body that maybe others wouldn't notice, for me I think it is stress but at the back of my mind I'm concerned it's stomach related, a hiatus hernia or something else.

i have started drinking magnesium calm at night to try and relax and the last 2 days have got slightly better 🤔

I havent tried pepermint as this is meant to aggrivate acid reflux even though I'm not sure that's what it is!

      Seeing an osteopath Friday too!

      Best wishes

      katie
