Nausea 12 weeks after gallbladder removal

Had my gallbladder removed 12 weeks ago due to pain from 1 large stone. Had the dreaded diarrhea for 8 weeks but has settled. Have the most horrendous nausea I have ever experienced. It's worse in the mornings and I can hardly get out of bed its that bad. Some days it goes by lunchtime and I feel ok and other days it lingers until the evening and then I feel ok. Was back in hospital last week and other than a little gastritis everything is ok. My surgeon said it will go in time. I am just wondering if this happened to anyone else and how long did it take to go. Its starting to depress me now!

I'm so thankful that I stumbled upon this site. I'm in the same boat as many of you. Took the drs 6 weeks to find out that my gallbladder was completely dysfunctional with a HIDA scan.  Went through with laparoscopic surgery and still having issues 6 weeks post surgery.

Typical day: wake up at 5 am to pee, then have a normal bowel movement. Back up at 5:30 with diarrhea and take a bile binder from the GI specialist. Back up at 6 am with more diarrhea. Drink a protein shake and try to get moving for the day. Probably one more round in the bathroom and then off to work. It's like Groundhogs Day sad. Usually I can get myself back on track around 10am and I try to eat small healthy meals every 2-3 hours.  I also take protonix for reflux.

I'm not so trusting of my drs anymore. I think that they have done all that they can do but they have no answers for how to get over this. It's very upsetting. My husband has been amazing through all of this but it's frustrating since things are soooooo slow to improve. Will I ever get back to normal?  How long will it take?  Why don't the drs have an answer since so many patients have this after removal?

I take the bile binder and reflux medication. I still have daily diarrhea and my appetite is not normal. I've lost 35 pounds in the 3 months that this has gone on.  Today was a bad day and I had to take my nausea medication again. Trying not to get too worked up and keeping up positive thoughts, but it's hard when you don't feel like yourself.

I've seen that a few of you tried acupuncture and felt better. Can you give me more information about this experience?  I'm calling tomorrow and have high hopes. I'm also looking into some holistic options.

I had my gall bladder out 11/21/17 and had bad bouts with vomiting and loose stools with it before the surgery and after. My sister has chrones disease and said DGL helped her with the inflammation and soothes your esophagus and cut down on the acid and burning feeling. They are a licorice derivative and are enzymatic to soothe. I don’t even take more than 1 or 2 a day (you’re supposed to take 3 or less per day) and it’s helped me tremendously ! It is on sales at Walgreens.com right now  buy 1 at $8.99 get one 1/2 off. I didn’t take any yesterday and went out with friends and had fried foods just got thru the appetizers and had to run to the ladies room and threw up so bad and had the chills and kept vomiting. I stayed home from work today I’m so drained. I swear by them they are wafer tablets that you have to chew. I think everyone with our problem or heartburn acid reflux should try them there is lots of info up in the internet about it. Good luck and give it a try I’m sure it will help you. Feel better and best regards.

I had my gall bladder removed (keyhole surgery) 15 days ago. I was sick twice on the day of surgery but that was most likely a side affect of the general anaesthetic. All was then good for 13 days. everything was seeming fine. Even bowl movements were normal.

Yesterday (day 14) and today I have woken up feeling sick. I also suddenly seem to have bad heartburn so I have started taking a double dose of Omerpazole 2 x 20mg.

When my gallbladder problems first started approx a year ago I was feeling sick in the mornings. I was prescribed Metocloptamide 10mg. I took one yesterday that helped and will take another one today.

I was warned about what to expect but this did not include nausea two weeks later.

Anyway, hope you are now on the mend and if my feeling of nausea continues I will see my GP for advice

Thanks Terry. I hope you are feeling better now. It’s 4 years since I had the surgery. I am fine now. I can’t eat a huge meal but can eat everything. I do suffer from constipation but I would prefer that than the diarrhea. Take care

Terry43948, I was wondering if you’ve been tested for HPylori? I too suffered from nausea and no appetite  before and after my gallbladder removal. 3 months after my gallbladder surgery I tested positive for HPylori. It took several months after treatment to start feeling better but I’m good now. There’s a few things I can’t eat and I’m not sure if it’s because of no gallbladder or HPylori but I just stay away from those.

I had similar symptoms.  I am 3 months post gallbladder surgery and I am getting nausea and fatigue.  Some days are bad and some days aren't as bad.   I didn't experience any diarrhea.

I went to my surgeon as well and he wasn't too concerned about the symptoms.

Are you still getting symptoms, or are they tapering off?

Yes you were right, the dreaded diarrhoea is mainly away two years on.  Unfortunately still have mornings of nausea, any help regarding this? Have cut out dairy and fats

Hi Ann glad  to hear the diarrhea has settled. The nausea should settle too. Ginger capsules and tea can help as well as acupressure bands. I found they both helped me. I get nausea on a very very odd occasion First thing in the morning but I think it’s connected to my hormonal cycle. I hope this settles for you soon. Take care
